Full-screening an app sometimes kicks me to the login screen and unable to log back in Posted: 13 Nov 2021 10:16 PM PST macOS Monterey 21.0.1, M1 MacBook Pro I can't seem to figure out what the culprit is, but occasionally when putting an app in full-screen, I get sent back to the login screen and when I enter my password I get the loading wheel, where my only option seems to be to force power off the device and reboot. When it does happen, it seems to repeatedly happen when doing the action that first caused this (I've noticed this mostly when trying to full screen the Shortcuts app, although it happened to me with another app last night, don't remember which one). Any ideas as to a possible culprit or way I could check this out? [link] [comments]
Is it risky to use xattr -cr command on some app if it won't open? Posted: 14 Nov 2021 01:49 AM PST Hi! I downloaded an app from some file sharing site, and I got this "is damaged and can't be opened. you should move it to the bin" message. Is it totally safe to use the xattr -cr command, or the message appears cause of harmful content? [link] [comments]
Formatting MBP SSD through Monterey. All clean? Posted: 14 Nov 2021 05:31 AM PST Hey guys. So recently I posted about trading-in my MBP 2018 - I'm in the process of doing so for cash, since I grabbed a good deal on an Air M1 2020 - https://reddit.com/r/macbook/comments/qow7bl/advice_on_trading_macbook_pro_2018/ I now have off loaded my workflow to the iPad until my Air arrives. In the meantime, I want to format my MacBook Pro for trading it in. I noticed two partitions on my Mac (I never changed these): one with 15-ish GBs and the other with the remaining SSD size and data from my files. My question is: formatting through Monterey will make sure all partitions are cleared? Will it merge them? Or will it just take care of my data files? Can the remaining partition carry on any personal data with it? Thank you so much for your help. [link] [comments]
CarbonComponentScannerXPC Intel (Rosetta 2) Process - ARM Mac Posted: 14 Nov 2021 05:05 AM PST I've recently transitioned to the M1 Pro MacBook Pro, and I'm using MacOS 12.0.1. There is a process I'm not quite sure about that seems to be Intel-based/running via Rosetta, that runs on launch. The name of the process is 'CarbonComponentScannerXPC', and as I said, it runs on launch and I have no applications that are x86-based at the moment, and hence there are no other Intel-based processes running. I have installed some in the past unknowingly, but moved away from anything Intel-based. I assume it has something to do with this: Component Manager | Apple Developer Documentation. However, Apple states this has been deprecated since MacOS 10.8. It also seems a bit odd that this would be something built-in to the Operating System that doesn't run natively, especially since ARM-based Macs have been out for over a year. If anyone has any clues/has managed to get rid of this process themselves please let me know. I don't want to just kill the process without knowing what it's for. [link] [comments]

Since Monterey I can only eject Drives with the Disk Utility. Does anybody else have this problem? Posted: 14 Nov 2021 04:21 AM PST Since the Beta of Monterey and even now in the finished release I can't eject drives in Finder, dragging them in the Bin oder right clicking. Doesn't matter the type of drive: usb stick, sd card, hard drive or even virtual install drives. I can only eject them with the Disk Utility. Does anybody else have this problem or know a of way to fix this? [link] [comments]
How do I change M1 Mac aspect ratio to 16:9. Posted: 14 Nov 2021 12:29 AM PST I've tried using apps like EasyRes, SwitchResX, and command line tools like displaymode, but none of them allow me to change to 16:9, the only non-16:10, ratios were 4:3. Could anyone help? I dont really care if its retina or not, i just need 16:9 ratio. [link] [comments]
Batch/Programm to rename folders on ftp Posted: 14 Nov 2021 03:57 AM PST Hey guys, I googled the shit out of me, tried several things but still I'm not at the finish. Writing a batch/terminal script would be prop. the easiest solution, but it seems that with actual Mac OS you can 't use the ftp command in terminal anymore. Maybe someone can help me. The folder names are fixed, so I think it's easy: My first idea was a batch which I can run through terminal, but connection to ftp isn't working. My google-research told me "ftp" command isn't supported anymore. Next idea was trying to fix this somehow with automator, but connection finder to the ftp is a pain in the a** and isn't working good at all (compared to ftp-client). Transmit has functions for Automator, but they also fail in connecting to ftp. If I connect to the same server by transmit software, no issues. Has anyone a idea how to solve this? Since I have to rename 20 folders everyday like this, I would love to do it by a click of script or something else. thx for your help [link] [comments]
External GPU worth it for a MacBook Pro? Posted: 14 Nov 2021 12:07 AM PST I currently use my MacBook pro with two external 4k. 60hz monitors (plus the retina display). This works great for my job as for the most part, I'm reading through text or non moving pictures. The downside is I've seen it kill my CPU keeping up with the "windowServer" process. I've found that once I start opening multiple windows and spreading out into the screen real estate, the MacBook becomes increasingly sluggish with visible jitters on screen updates. With movies from netflix, it becomes unwatchable with both screens active. Performance immediately increases if I unplug one monitor or both. I've noticed WindowServer hogging the CPU as well as kernal_task creeping in if I'm really pushing it. My thought process was connecting the monitors to an external GPU to offload the work of updating the external monitors; however, I don't know if MacOS architecture. windowsServer is at the end of the day using CPU cycles rather than the GPU. 2018 MacBook pro 13" 16 gb of ram Egpu enclosure [link] [comments]

Change Caps Lock change language behaviour. Posted: 14 Nov 2021 02:36 AM PST I'm changing language by pressing `Caps Lock`, but sometimes I guess I'm starting typing so fast after pressing that it does not work. Thank you in advance! [link] [comments]

Yellow/Orange Dot always on even after disabling Siri Posted: 14 Nov 2021 02:10 AM PST Hi everyone I recently updated the macOS to Monterey and since, there has been a yellow/orange dot on the top right of my screen on all the time. I understand that this is a security feature to show that my microphone is on, and when i click on the yellow thing beside the date/time on the top right of my screen, it says it's Siri, but I've disabled and so I'm getting worried. The yellow dot shows up when I'm in full screen mode watching Netflix etc, and it doesn't seem to disappear. Does anyone know what's going on? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
How to maintain virtual desktops between restarts? Posted: 13 Nov 2021 09:44 PM PST I come from Ubuntu where I can setup say 4 virtual desktops and they will always be there after restarts. when I load my regular apps they even load on the same desktop which is nice for consistency. Is this possible in MacOS? Monterrey seems to treat them as temp areas? Bonus question: Any way to use the scroll wheel, hovering over the desktop/background, to switch desktops? Posted: 14 Nov 2021 01:24 AM PST Apple released the first Monterey, although I know there are lots of bugs and need Apple some time to fix them. I wanna know how the Monterey performance on MacBook Pro 13 2019(or 2020,2018 with intel chip) I care about the battery life, performance and the animation fluency thanks! [link] [comments]
Lack of android emulators for Apple Silicon macbooks Posted: 13 Nov 2021 06:47 AM PST Why aren't there any android emulators availiable for M1 macbooks?M1 is arm based so it should be dope at running android/ios apps but for some reason the big players like Bluestacks and Nox Player aren't just releasing their softwares for apple silicon. I haven't found any ways to run emulated android software on apple silicon. Have you? [link] [comments]
Anyone else having weird stuff happen in Monterey? Posted: 13 Nov 2021 02:52 PM PST Using 12.0.1 on my 2021 MacBook Pro 16" (which is amazing) but I feel like there's a gremlin living inside the computer sometimes. Random settings are getting changed. For example, today there was no sound coming out of my left airpod. I thought it was broken, but it worked fine when connected to my iPhone. Turns out the sound balance slider was moved all the way to "left" in the sound settings in system preferences, even though I had never been in there before. And a few days ago, all of my sidebar items in finder disappeared back to defaults. Is anyone else experiencing this? Maybe I'm losing my mind or sleep walking at night and changing settings lol.
