I have remote access to his computer and can type messages to him and he responds on his phone (home phone for now). This is possible because he usually digs the hole pretty deep before he calls me. So maybe he got confused on the wifi selection screen and somehow he's stuck in "other network." I need guidance. How do I get him out of this? ps. this is time sensitive. step-mom was just transported to the hospital with some issue and they'll likely be trying to reach him on his cell. UPDATE: we're in. | Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:50 PM PST If ones Apple Care expires without any incidents, does Apple do anything compensatory like a free battery upgrade, refurbished phone, credit or otherwise? It seems that anyone could just dunk their iPhone in the toilet before Apple Care runs out to get a new (refurbished) iPhone and Apple should give well behaving a customers a benefit if they don't use it. I updated my phone 2 days ago and ever since I keep getting these messages that appear to be in Russian? And I can't understand what they are saying. The only thing that I understand is some different kind of phone numbers and the word wallet written in English. I have logged out of ICloud and iTunes just in case. Plz help anyone. | Considering replacing iPhone 7 screen - Is it achievable Posted: 02 Nov 2020 12:23 AM PST Hey guys I've been using the same iPhone 7 for 4 years now, mainly since it had 256gb and never really failed me, but I recently damaged the screen by continually dropping it. Some glass has chipped off from the top right but that occurred a long time ago and didn't seem an issue, however, the top right quadrant of the screen is gone and doesn't allow me to control the phone. I am 17 and although I could buy a new iPhone I just don't want to fork out all my savings so I was considering a do-it-yourself kit from Ifixit (https://store.ifixit.co.uk/products/iphone-7-screen?variant=31646576345137) but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Any help would be greatly appreciated so thanks in advance. Didn't know I couldn't attach images but the best way to describe it is a crack originating from the very top right that spreads throughout the screen resembling a lightning strike. There are some thin lines crossing the screen from top to bottom and left to right all throughout the screen. There are also some blotches of what looks like black ink at the far top right corner which are fairly big (2-3cm in diameter). | Having trouble getting apps to reinstall Posted: 01 Nov 2020 11:56 PM PST Madel: iPhone 7 iOS Version: 12.4.1 I'm not entirely sure how to explain the problem, but I noticed one day that many of my apps were blacked out, and had a little cloud next to their titles. For many of them, I simply tapped on the app and they re-installed themselves, but a few (including apps that I need, like Imgur) don't ever fully re-install. They'll go through the re-install process (they'll say "Waiting..." for a moment, and then they'll load, and then they'll just inexplicably stop at about 75% of the way through, without any sort of notification as to why). I've got very little storage left on my phone (31.3 GB out of 32), but I figured that it would at least be enough for Imgur, as I've already deleted over 300 photos to make some space. I also had the "Offload Unused Apps" setting on for a while, but I turned that on nearly a week ago and I was able to use Imgur at the time. I've since turned the setting off, and after deleting 300 photos, I don't know what to do next. Any ideas on how to fix this? [link] [comments]  |

All day today I have been getting spam text alerts from email addresses which is get super annoying and I don't remember it ever happening before. I've tried to figure out how to at least stop these email texts from alerting. I googled it and the answer I got was to to into settings, notifications, messages, then toggle "show messages alerts from contacts only". Only problem is that option doesn't seem to exist. | Maneuvering iPhone with Damaged Screen Posted: 01 Nov 2020 04:46 PM PST Hi everybody, I have an iPhone XS Max (iOS 14) that has a crack on the back. It fell into a little bit of water today, and the display no longer works. Fifteen minutes after exposure to the water, the screen's colors turned green-ish, and then the display went completely black. I tried to dry it out and put it in rice (which I'm aware probably doesn't do anything), and it's occasionally flashed with color since then, although I think it's probably damaged at this point. I'll keep working on trying to get any water out, but I have insurance to replace the device for a deductible. Right now, the display does not work at all but the iPhone is functional (I can turn sound on/off with the trigger on the left, and I can ring the device using Find my iPhone). My concern is with my voice memos -- they're the only data on my device that doesn't seem to be backed up onto the cloud. Is there any way to activate iCloud backup for my voice memos on my iPhone from my Mac? Or is there any way to access my iPhone's settings without actually seeing the screen (i.e. do you think I could somehow project the screen elsewhere without being able to enter the phone)? Sometimes it last a couple of minutes but most of the time is not 30 seconds. I restarted the phone, the router, reset network settings, and nothing works. The only think new in my phone is a VPN app, but I deleted the app and it still happens. Anyone has an idea? | Why does "Now Playing" continues to switch apps? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 02:30 PM PST I use Evermusic to play some audio that I download from the web rather than dealing with iTunes. One thing that really bothers me is when I put the player on pause while I go through some other apps like Reddit, and after a few minutes, I come back to hit play when I pulldown the notifications tab. | iPhone 11: huge "other" storage taken and it won't go away Posted: 01 Nov 2020 12:10 PM PST Hi, I got a brand new iPhone 11 64gb (iOS 14.1) this week. I used to have a 6S and 64gb always been plenty enough. Now I have about 35gb worth of "other storage" taken and thought it would go away after iOS would process/index everything since I have about 150gb of pictures/videos and 26gb worth of messages in iCloud. But it won't, it's been about a week now. I feel this is happening because of my huge messages database but I'm not ready to purge it yet since I have important old messages stored. Maybe not, I really don't know. I tried restoring a few times. I streamlined everything I could, I should have a lot of free space available but I only have about 8gb left. I experienced that kind of bug in the past but updates always resolved it. I read that it happened during iOS 14 beta but got resolved later like usual. So I wonder why I'm stuck in that situation. I don't know what to do since I even read people with 128gb+ phones stuck in the same situation. Any suggestion? Ever experienced similar? If so how did you get it resolved? | battery being cooked by something [iphone X 14.1] Posted: 01 Nov 2020 11:04 AM PST This all started last week when I got a new garmin gps that streams music via amazon alexa. Noticed it just ate the battery alive and I figured, Ok guess thats the way it is to stream on the road ,,, But then I noticed even when I didn't use it, not in my truck and the garmin unit not even on, it continued to devour my battery. Before this from a full charge I'd last all day, usually 70-80% charge left by night, maybe into 60% if I did some streaming or talked alot on the phone. Now 20% comes off a full charge in hours, by mid day its on low power alert, and thats without using the garmin or much of anything else. I have to constantly keep it plugged into something. So I turned off garmin background refresh, still same thing. Weird thing is, on the battery usage screen it shows flashlight as the #1 user with 14.5 hours, and I literally never use the phone flashlight and would certainly notice in a dark room if I turned it on accidentally and left it on. I have been unwell last few days and had to take time off work, and even just moping around the house the battery is draining at a record pace, any ideas what steps to take to get back to where I was before the garmin install ? Suddenly one day it was not able to latch on the cellular network. Initially it was random, sometimes it got connected to the network & then it wont & show as no network. But now it remains in no network state for most of the time, but again sometimes it shows the network but call & sms won't go through. Tried all possible things, tried different SIM, reset all settings,ios reinstalled a couple of times but still the same problem. I thought based on internet search it might be a baseband problem. I took it to two apple authorized dealers in India & they have no clue what the problem is. They tried the scanner tool which also didn't find anything unusual so they suggested that it might need to change the motherboard which might cost a bomb so better not do this. But the losers have no clue what exactly is the problem with the phone. Just call a 3rd party service center, explain the problem they said it is not a baseband problem otherwise IMEI won't be visible in settings which is visible. They suspect some hardware issue & want to keep it for a few days. So any suggestion is welcome , anyone has encountered a similar issue?? [link] [comments]  |
