Battery issues on the M1 Pro Macbook 14"? How is your battery life? Posted: 09 Nov 2021 08:26 PM PST I have the M1 Pro Macbook Pro 14" and am getting abysmal battery life with light usage. I have had this machine for 5 days now and it is not indexing. I am a newer Apple customer so I don't have a lot on my iCloud, etc. I have tried safe booting and reformatting it, ensuring that apps are closed, but even with that the battery has only been lasting 7 hours from web browsing. This evening, I watched Netflix for 1 hr on battery and it drained 25% with the brightness at 50-60%. This was right after reformatting and after indexing was done. The only app I installed was Google Chrome. I know that Chrome is a battery drainer but compared to others who manage to get 10-11 hours while doing video editing, this doesn't seem right... Plus after I reformatted the device, the screen started randonmly flickering which was new. I have decided to return my M1 Pro since I feel like I've received a defective device, and then repurchase a new one (though sadly that means I won't receive it until end Dec). I was wondering if any other M1 Pro 14" owners are experiencing similar issues? [link] [comments]
MacBook won’t charge turned off but charges normally when it’s on? - is this a fault. Posted: 09 Nov 2021 10:33 PM PST Hey guys! This may be a weird question for some. But I'm super confused. I owned a 2015 MacBook Pro for a while. This year I upgraded to the 2021 model. Everything is perfect, the MacBook is great and I love it. The only thing that bothers me is that the MacBook won't charge turned off but it charges when I turn it back on 😂. So when it's fully off, the light appears on the MagSafe and then disappears, and then appears again and disappears - and continues in that cycle. I have to lift the screen and turn on the MacBook for it to not do that and charge properly. Only thing I can think of is that there is setting option for this but I haven't looked into it properly. Could someone help me out? Thanks - Casper [link] [comments]

Posted: 09 Nov 2021 11:33 PM PST Please bear with me. I'm a new MBP user. Got my 13" M1 (16GB/1TB) almost 2 weeks ago, still on Big Sur. Is it normal that I'm getting around 5% battery drainage in 30 mins just using 3 tabs of Safari? Screen brightness at around 60, speaker volume about 85. Also, I had AlDente set to 80% charge limit but when I disconnected the charging cable, battery level went to 99. Is this a bug? [link] [comments]
Few questions from a to-be first time Mac user Posted: 09 Nov 2021 09:32 AM PST I've been a loyal Windows power user for years with forays into Linux. The value + speed + battery of the M1 is just too tempting, and I'm buying a base M1 MBA soon. I'm sure I'll be able to find my way around, but I have a few questions: 1) The first thing I plan to do is tweak all the settings and preferences to my liking. Are there any settings which should be avoided, or cause issues when changed? And are there any setting changes that you'd recommend everyone must do so I don't miss it? 2) I plan to use only Apple softwares since I guess that is what the OS is optimised for, so I'll be migrating from Chrome to Safari and so on. Are there any native softwares that should be avoided, and similarly any other must-haves? Is there a list of non-Apple softwares that are written for ARM so they run optimally and without requiring Rosetta? 3) Seen this asked multiple times, but to optimize battery health, I've seen people recommend Al Dente if the machine is remaining plugged in to keep the battery from staying at 100 for extended periods. Any other tips for battery health? 4) Is there any guide that answers questions like these? Like there are multiple YT videos on MacOS tips and tricks and guides. Any recommended one? 5) I'm not able to recall the other questions I had, so anything else I should know? Anything to make the most out of my Mac? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Why are macbook prices going up? Posted: 09 Nov 2021 10:56 PM PST Anyone notice the prices increasing? They seem to be increasing for everything!:( Anyone else notice this? edit: I mena used macbooks, I see why the new pros are much more expensive. [link] [comments]
Help finding a screen protector + shell case for new MacBook Pro 16” Posted: 09 Nov 2021 10:45 PM PST I'll be getting the new 16" MacBook Pro in a couple days, and I always like to put a screen protector and shell case on as soon as it's out of the box. I know it's a bit overkill, especially the screen protector, but it gives me peace of mind- and I'm glad I did it when I purchased the 2019 MacBook Pro model, as it's in pristine condition now, and I'll be reselling it once all my files are transferred to the new one. The problem is, I can't find any shell cases or screen protectors that are available now. The only stuff I can find is for pre-order and won't come for like a month at least. Wondering if anyone knows of any products that are available now? Any help is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]

DO NOT GET THE MacBook Air EARLY 2020 WITH THE I3 PROZESSOR!!!! Posted: 09 Nov 2021 10:13 AM PST I am writing this on the MacBook Air early 2020 with the i3 processor. I bought it because, I wanted to have a MacBook for a budget of 600 euros and my budget was met. On the website it said I was going to get 900 something in single score and 1900-ish in multi score. I thought I was going to edit 10 minute 1080p videos with iMovie and play Roblox. Roblox was fine, not on the highest setting though. The fans turn on during the SIMPLIEST tasks. Multiple taps open on safari? forget that. This computer is a pretty, overpriced, laptop for office work. I knew it was going to be bad, but I miscalculated. I'm not exaggerating, this thing sucks. And the worst thing is, I'm not going to be able to sell it for under 550. I'll make a loss of 50 bucks, but I deserve it for thinking the m1 was overkill for what I wanted. If you're looking for a budget MacBook, get a MacBook Pro 2017, They're cheap. [link] [comments]

Thinking about buying my first ever Macbook. Posted: 09 Nov 2021 05:18 PM PST So, as the title says, I'm considering buying my first ever Macbook Pro and since my budget is kinda low I'm considering buying 2018 13 inch base model (256gb, 8gb ram, 2.3 ghz i5 quad core, touchbar, 4 thunderbolt ports). I would be using it for DJing and 1080p full HD video editing in Premiere and Resolve. So I'm wondering is it worth it? Is this model still good? [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Nov 2021 06:08 AM PST I just learned yesterday that my company plans to upgrade me to an M1 Mac. My entire development set up depends on vagrant. I do have a Windows server that I could run my vagrant stuff on and connect to it from the Mac, so I have a back up plan. But is there anything vagrant-like available on the M1 Mac yet. I like to be able to spin up several different versions as easily as I can on vagrant. [link] [comments]
How do you think what's better to purchase for my granny? Posted: 09 Nov 2021 12:06 PM PST My granny has an old, fossy windows laptop and I want to throw it out and buy her an iPad or MacBook. Whether or not I don't know what's gonna be better for her, she's more got used to laptop experience and does not take it anywhere (and even from charger, the battery is dead tho) but iPad opens plenty of new possibilities like mobility, camera, wireless experience, higher quality reading and other. I still strongly hesitate. A new but good known improved MacBook with so many convenient features and physical keyboard (with backlit which is also new) or an iPad which allows even more, but it's completely something new, with on screen keyboard and I'm not sure she'll understand it. Maybe someone have had experience like this? I really would appreciate some advise or even thoughts [link] [comments]
Delete mac user profile picture Posted: 09 Nov 2021 11:14 AM PST First time MacBook owner, I'm on the most updated version of Big Sur (11.6.1) and was wondering if it's possible to remove the profile picture on the login screen. on my iCloud account on my phone I managed to set it back to my initials but can't seem to set it back on the MacBook. Edit: I have accepted my fate as a globe. [link] [comments]
Help partitioning disk - error 49187 Posted: 09 Nov 2021 10:18 AM PST I have been trying to partition my disk using Bootcamp so that I can use windows 10. Every time it gets half way through and then comes up with the error 'your disk could not be partitioned'. I tried to partition the disk on Disk Utility and got error 49187. I have tried every solution I can find online. Including clean reinstall of OS, disk utility first aid, all of the single user fsck codes I have read about. The only thing I haven't done is upgrade the OS which I don't really want to do if possible, and I don't think it is the problem (could be wrong of course). I am using a 2017 12" MacBook. OS is Mojave. Any help would be much appreciated. [link] [comments]
What is your experience on Applecare + in India? Posted: 09 Nov 2021 10:14 AM PST So, I am on the fence on whether to get Apple Care+ or not for my Macbook air as all the aftersales are handled by 3rd party authorized centers here. So, I would like to know about your experience before making the decision. Thank you! [link] [comments]

MBA M1 16/512 powerful enough for creative work? Will it last without a fan? Posted: 09 Nov 2021 09:30 AM PST I work in a creative job using Photoshop on a computer provided to me by work. My own laptop broke 2 years ago and I never replaced it since I had my ipad pro and computer at work. But I want to expand my skillset and get into graphic design and maybe motion graphics, and some coding. So I'd be using illustrator, indesign, some after effects. I've been stuck between the 16gb, 512gb MacBook Air, or springing for the 13 inch MacBook Pro. I'm concerned about thermal performance and longevity of the Air when using adobe and similar programs. I've watched so many videos on the MBA, but most of them focus on the base model. The thing keeping me from the pro is the touch bar, the idea that it's not that much better than the air but it's a good bit more expensive. Also, the fact that the price of the MBP 13 is close to the MBP 14 makes the 14 so tempting, but then suddenly im talking about spending $1000 more than if I got the air... And I don't think I need a computer as powerful as the M1 Pro. I wish there was an MBP 13 inch with HDMI and physical function keys! Any advice appreciated, I've been in this cycle of thought for like 6 months lol. [link] [comments] |
