| I Lost a Discontinued app and I need advice, please and thank you Posted: 10 Nov 2021 12:12 AM PST So I use to have an app called "Manga Storm" which I used to save and read manga and it was great, But I had the setting "offload unused apps" turned on and one time when my phone was off it uninstalled That app and a bunch of others even though I used them like 2 hours prior. Anyway the app is no longer in the store(only another version that doesn't work the same), and I can't get it back, I've tried to look for solutions but nothing concrete is available to me. So here's the question I need to ask. -Can I get my discontinued apps from iCloud back ups? I have a back up of my phone from a month prior to the loss of the apps (since my phone and cloud was full) and I want to know if I can Reset my phone and get my app back if I restore from backup. All I see when I look it up is "app and data will be restored", so I am not sure if it will only restore my data for the app or the app itself. If anyone has any information on this I am in desperate need on an answer, I don't have another apple device I can test this on and I don't want to risk messing up my phone in some way. | Siri is getting worse with every release... am I alone here? Posted: 09 Nov 2021 03:08 PM PST I love voice assistants, but I'm getting pretty frustrated with Siri. Here's my current and primary frustration at the moment. I often ask siri to make international calls using whatsapp. 8 months ago, I was able to say, "hey siri, call Tim Apple using WhatsApp" and bam, just what you'd expect. Shortly after that, Siri started telling me, "I don't have a WhatsApp number for Tim Apple". So, used my logic and tried, "Use WhatsApp to call Tim Apple." That worked.... for a while. Now, it seems that neither approaches work. Approach 1 still gives me "I don't have a WhatsApp number for Tim Apple" and approach 2 just starts calling Tim Apple using the regular phone with no warning that I'm making an international call. Tell me Apple isn't getting this careless and I'm somehow missing some major improvement and just using it wrong... [link] [comments]  | ||
| Posted: 09 Nov 2021 11:43 PM PST iPhone 11. iOS 15.1 Google enabled 2 factor authentication so I kept receiving an error that I can't log in to my Google account for contacts (this was for card DAV which I believe is the old way? because all google searching now shows is that I should just add a google account). I removed the account and re-added (suggestion from searching) and now I am apple to add the account but my contacts are empty. I also can't see any choice for selecting a default account under Settings->Contacts. Not sure what I'm doing wrong :( I even removed 2 factor authentication but still no contacts. | Posted: 09 Nov 2021 08:55 PM PST I noticed my IPhone speaker holes have gathered a lot of dust and stuff and I decided to use a tooth pick to get the stuff out, I didn't apply a lot of force and I was gentle. | iPhone 8 Plus home button mostly not responding after screen replacement Posted: 09 Nov 2021 06:53 PM PST I replaced a friend's iPhone 8 Plus screen that had cracked, reusing the original home button so it should still be paired and should work. I actually did the screen replacement twice because the first one had some light leakage and I got a different brand, but the home button worked fine after the first replacement. After this second replacement, Touch ID works (except obviously it doesn't like my fingerprint, but it recognizes that there's a finger there and that it's not one of the approved ones), but the actual home button functionality doesn't, and I got the message saying the home button may need repair and that the virtual home button was enabled. That was all well and good temporarily, until I did a system update and now it's stuck at "Press the home button to continue" and doesn't respond. A hard restart did nothing. It's on iOS 15.1 now or should be, though I can't verify 100% for certain that it upgraded successfully. Any suggestions? Edit: I swapped back the first display, and the home button still doesn't work with that, so I don't think it's the cable from the display to the logic board. [link] [comments]  | ||
| Posted: 09 Nov 2021 06:43 PM PST My iPhone 11 is malfunctioning. Last night I accidentally dropped my phone in the shower whilst giving my younger brother a shower, the floor wasn't that wet and my phone was fine once I picked it up. A few hours later I couldn't charge it since it detected water in the charging area, I gave it some time and tried drying it with the edge of a paper towel and eventually it worked without giving me the water detection alert. Later on tho, I noticed one small area of my screen was darker than the rest, and overnight my Face ID was disabled. It directed me to settings to install IOS 15. But when I came back to check on it. Screen was completely black and unresponsive. I got it working again after some hard resetting but Face ID was still disabled, and the small dark area was still there. I also realized that the front facing camera looked blurry, and any photos I took with it had this weird yellow tint to it. Fortunately the 2 main rear cameras seemed to be fine. After an hour to two though my screen started flickering. Its black and white now and I see a lot of vertical lines. PIm sorry if this is not the right sub for this but I'm getting really concerned. The only thing I can think of is water damage but I dont think the floor was wet enough to even soak the phone. What should I do? Any advice is appreciated [link] [comments]  | ||

| ANY Bluetooth activity causes media to play Posted: 09 Nov 2021 03:02 PM PST I've heard this maybe a "feature" and not an issue. But I must say, it's one of the least logical decisions to ignore all of the complaints that have been going on since about 2012 on this topic. Here's my bone with apple. I drive an older car, not that old, but a 2015 Lexus. It doesn't have carplay, but just regular old bluetooth. Every time I turn on the car, something starts playing. Every time I hang up the phone, something starts playing. Every time I ask a question to siri, and she finishes, something starts playing. My question is, is this supposed to be a feature? I can't get a straight answer from Apple support. Here's my theory though around how the iPhone (and mac for that matter) responds to bluetooth activity. Apple, apparently, has decided that every time one connects to a bluetooth source, they want to listen to whatever was last being played in whatever media app was last being used. This might make sense in some world. Say for example, all I ever used my bluetooth headphones for was to continue listening to the last thing I was previously listening to. Most people, I'd postulate however, are not in this camp. To make matters worse, the large number of false-positives the bluetooth protocol transmits to a connected (disconnected, connected, disconnected) device is almost embarrassing for a 23 year old protocol. Apple, if you're here, please tell me I'm so wrong and there's a simple setting somewhere that says, "don't play music upon bluetooth connection change". I'd be so happy if that were the case. However, I believe with second to the last update, (I'm on 15 currently, haven't updated to 15.1 yet) Zoom was changed to enlarge the screen (lowest the slider will go is 1.2x) as well as dim it when before it would only dim it. Is there anything to fix this or is this just another programming error that Apple will take 6 months to fix? If there's no way to dim with Zoom, is there something else I can do to dim my screen further than just keeping it low on the slider? I like to read at night and the screen is just too bright. I dropped it on tile and it didn't crack the screen or back or anything, but now, anytime I click the home button or get a vibrating notification, the whole phone rattles (like loud speakers rattling windows in a car).
