Apple M1 Macs appear to be chewing through their SSDs Posted: 23 Feb 2021 10:58 AM PST https://www.pcgamer.com/apple-m1-macs-appear-to-be-chewing-through-their-ssds/ There's growing concern among Apple M1 Mac owners that the SSDs in their lovely new machines are being hammered by excessive swap file usage (via LTT Forums). This could see the machines fail in less than two years, if the numbers are correct, and while this really is a worst-case scenario, it still paints a worrying picture about the longevity of the new machines. Something compounded by the fact that the SSDs are soldered on the mainboards, which means replacing them isn't straightforward. [link] [comments]

my MacBook Pro 15 (2018) has an OS issue, plz help Posted: 23 Feb 2021 11:46 PM PST hi, I recently wanted to reset my MacBook pro 15in 2018, and kinda messed up. I first booted into recovery by pressing command and r when booting up, then went into disk utility and completely wiped the mackintosh HD drive and then restarted the MacBook, now I am faced with either a folder without a question mark or a spinning globe asking for wifi and trying to recover from the internet. I first gave it wifi and tried repairing the OS that way but failed every time, I even created a bootable drive from EL captian to BigSur and all the boots failed, it would just ask for wifi and then fail after spending half an hour trying to recover from the internet. I showed the issue to a mac repair guy and he said that the hard drive is corrupt and the motherboard needs to be replaced which will be VERRRY EXPENSIVE, I don't get it, the mac was working just fine before the disk wipe and suddenly it's corrupted??!! and apparently bricked. if there is one place left where I can find help, it is here on Reddit, if you have a solution or any suggestion on what I can try to fix this, please do tell me, thank you. Switching from windows - can macbook run Mp3 files? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 09:56 PM PST Sorry for this stupid question but I read somewhere that Apple devices do not run mp3 files natively. All I want to do is transfer mp3 files from my windows to my macbook and run them from there. [link] [comments]

MBP 13in, Mid 2014 upgrade suggestions Posted: 23 Feb 2021 07:08 PM PST I love my MBP, it's been the most reliable laptop I've ever had. I've done nothing with it since I bought it, but I've noticed it's taken a few extra ticks to load excel or various other programs. I was think about an SSD upgrade and was wondering about other upgrades that are worth doing, keeping In mind the price obviously. Thanks in Advance. [link] [comments]
Has anyone upgraded to the M1 from a 15.4 or 16"MBP? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 06:41 PM PST I don't know if I can wait on Apple to release what sounds like my dream 16" MBP later this year w/o the touchbar and so many other things. Seeing certified refurbished M1 MBA for $850 seriously has me considering trading in my 15.4" late 2016 MBP model. Last I checked Apple was offering $750 for it. I just don't know if I can get used to the smaller screen. My MBP is currently 15.4," so I'm not sure about going to a 13.3." Has anyone on here done it? Any similar experiences? I'm almost certain I'd trade it in again when the 16" M1X or M2 comes out, so I'd be losing some value pretty quickly, but I'm less concerned with that than I am the screen size. Is it possible to have someone buy a m1 refurbished mac in the us and ship it to europe? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 01:11 PM PST In europe the macbooks are very expensive. In my area they start from 1550$ . I saw earlier that apple now sells refurbished m1 macbook airs for 850. If the shipping is 50$ and I'd pay someone 50$ to do this for me it'd still be a lot cheaper for me. Is it possible to do this? How could I manage to pull this off? [link] [comments]
new MacBook battery life worsening Posted: 23 Feb 2021 04:44 PM PST Hi, I recently got an m1 MacBook Air and for the first couple weeks the battery life was great. I almost rarely used over 50% of it in a day. But now, the battery life is noticeably worse and my activity monitor isn't super helpful cause it doesn't really show anything taking a lot of battery. Does anyone have an explanation? Also, I haven't changed my workload or anything I've been doing the same stuff this entire time. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Help!! Constant popup on Macbook Posted: 23 Feb 2021 03:48 PM PST My laptop was working fine all day today when I suddenly got a popup that say "ConfigTyped will ruin your computer". Whenever I press okay it won't go away. I also have the issue of having no internet for some reason as well. There's nothing online about this issue and my dad has been trying to fix it for well over two hours, I'm not sure if he has contacted apple about the problem. I need my laptop for online school, can anyone fix this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Feb 2021 01:20 PM PST I'm guessing the battery is expanding. The store is basically 3 hours from my house. Sending it in they said takes 2 weeks. I can't be without my laptop for more than a day, much less 2 weeks. How long do you think they would take to fix it if I took it at the store? It has enterprise AppleCare until 2021. Thanks. Posted: 23 Feb 2021 10:45 AM PST Hey guys, I'm new on mac and I'm very confuse on the cmd + tab when i use the shortcut on minimize app it won't show the app window but still showing the active app I previously open. I come up on a thread about an app called AltTab, it's replicate the Windows 10 Alt+Tab function, but during installation it ask for a screen recording permission to be able to use the feature, and I am concern about the safety. is it safe?? Do you guys have any other similar app that offer the same function? btw I m currently using MBP M1. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Feb 2021 10:45 AM PST I bought an MBA 16gb ram today and it said the arrival time was around March 18th. Does the upgraded ones actually take this long or do they end up coming earlier? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Feb 2021 09:43 AM PST I have the 2020 MBA M1. I tried using Safari, but I can't stand the way it does bookmarks; the side panel thing is annoying. I love Chrome, but I hear it's bad on CPU, Ram, and battery. Any other alternatives? I read that Edge Chromium is good. Thoughts? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Feb 2021 09:43 AM PST I'm buying an M1 air tomorrow, so I've been doing research for the past couple of days and I've stumbled upon the usb-c hub bug that bricks your macbook. Far as I understand it, it's only an issue if you charge it through the hub via PD? so I have a couple of questions: 1) would using any hub without PD be fine? 2) If the above is yes, I intend to use one port for charging the mac directly and the other port for the hub, is that alright? 3) in case of the hub, can I use it to charge my phone or would that also be an issue? if yes, can I simultaneously charge the macbook directly and charge my phone via the hub? 4) To be on a the safe side, could I use usb-c adapter instead, for external HDD/SDD, mobile charging etc.? 5) Are there any other issues or bugs I should be aware of? software or hardware? (except software compatibilities) This is my first hardware purchase with my own hard-earned money so I'm just very nervous! Thanks for the help! [link] [comments]

Maximizing transfer speed from external hard drives? Posted: 23 Feb 2021 08:46 AM PST Hey! I'm in the process of updating my workstation, and with that, I am looking to improve the speed of transfer from my external SSDs to my Macbook Pro M1. I use currently two SSDs, one old Samsung with the blue USB stick, that I plug into the USB spot on my USB-dock hub (it's a small Belkin, no power USB-c port). (Going to upgrade this harddrive soon) The other SSD is a WD Passport that plugs into the USB-c spot on the same docking hub. The docking hub USB-C is then going into the 2nd USB-c spot on the MacBook. I use the SSDs for sample libraries for music production, and I struggle sometimes with loading times and playing in real-time. Is there something I can fix in my setup, perhaps my hub is slowing it, or I should try some different alternatives? I read somewhere that the two drives will compete for speed, I don't know how right this is. Any help on this is highly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
