Does Catalina 15.7 resolve the battery and heat problems of Catalina 15.1? Posted: 01 Nov 2020 12:47 AM PDT Catalina is rated 2.7 stars on the App store. Many of the reviews say it drains the battery on older Macbooks, like the 2015 Macbook Pro. Others say that it makes their computer hot and slower. However, many of these are from the beginning of this year, with MacOS 15.1 and 15.2. Are these issues any better with the current Catalina 15.7? [link] [comments]
How to store/organize music library? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 09:05 PM PDT New MacOS user here. I'm coming from a Windows PC where all of my music was simply stored in the Music folder and that was it, so I'm a bit confused about how music storage works on a Mac. I see there is a username > Music folder, but then the Music app also has its own folder? I currently have my music library on a portable hard drive and want to get it on to my Mac. Should I transfer the files to the username > Music folder and then import them into the Music app? Or should I import them into the Music app directly from my portable drive without saving them to the username > Music folder? I'd like to have all of my music in one place instead of having duplicate files in different places. [link] [comments]
Capture video on macOS using iPhone camera Posted: 31 Oct 2020 03:40 PM PDT Is this possible? I've got some video footage I need to record and was wondering whether I can use the iPhone as just a lens/sensor with the actual recording taking place on my MBP. Preferably 4K/60fps. Last time I recorded a vid on my iPhone it crashed and didn't save the footage. The stuff I need to record is one-shot and I don't want the same thing to happen. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Oct 2020 01:49 PM PDT SOLVED: I decided that i would just go ahead and try a reboot again, but not by simply restarting or shutting down. I simply clicked the option to choose a disk to boot from and suddenly it worked. I redownloaded the drivers and everything is working now. I downloaded a driver for a drawing tablet i just bought and it prompted me te restart so i did. Ever since my laptop keeps getting stuck in the bootscreen. I cant boot it up in safe mode. I found a solution to my exact problem saying i should use the terminal in recovery mode to delete all the files usong the keywords "wacom" and "tablet" so the driver files would be gone and than i could boot my laptop up again. I tried the command "find / -iname wacom -delete" but it deletes nothing. Could anyone help me with this? If i get it back to working i'll be sure to make a backup. I have a 2013 macbook pro with Catalina on it. The tablet i want to use is a "one by wacom: medium" I really hope someone can help me with this since this is my student laptop and i really need it cause it's an exam period. Thanks for helping! Edit: i've been trying to delete all the files using the rmdir command but since it wont let me delete soms directories recursively this also isnt helping. [link] [comments]
Is there a way to transfer images already on iCloud Drive to Photos library? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 02:06 PM PDT So I've a massive folder with over 50Gb worth of photos that haven't been added to the Photos app on my Mac. However all these images are on iCloud, and I'd prefer not to have to download it all. Since they're already on iCloud I thought there should be an easy way to "import" these images into the Photos app, but when trying to import the app only recognises downloaded files. Is there any workaround? Otherwise I'd have to download everything, import to Photos and wait for them to be uploaded to iCloud again, which just sounds a bit stupid. [link] [comments]
WindowServer high memory usage Posted: 31 Oct 2020 05:50 PM PDT so I've had this issue where WindowServer for me always had high memory usage but low real memory usage, suggesting a memory leak. I always assumed it to be an Apple issue but it's never been fixed so it might be a third party app. do any of you have this problem? (check activity monitor under the memory tab) [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Oct 2020 05:10 PM PDT Yeah, I hate it when I downloaded a program that all it does is fancy animations that like to take up my ram. Or Features that are locked. Or when it says 1 VIRUS FOUND, PAY TO REMOVE. (FUCK YOU CLEANMYMACX) [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Oct 2020 11:10 AM PDT Greetings All, For those that use iCloud Photos I have a question. I have never uploaded to iCloud photos I have my photo library save on my Mac and backup using time machine. I will probably get the Apple One premier bundle which means I'd have enough iCloud storage to upload my library. Now I always do a fresh install on my Mac of the OS and will do so for Big Sur. My question is, if I upload my library now, then do fresh install for Big Sur and restore my library from time machine, will iCloud scan my library and compare to what's in the cloud thus avoiding having to either re-upload the library or try to re-download the library? I know it syncs things but Im not sure how that sync works if you restore a library. Thanks in advance for your help and feedback. From what I can tell I'd be good to go, Im just hoping someone has actually done this and can confirm one way or the other. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Oct 2020 04:49 PM PDT Catalina 10.15.7, Early 2015 A1502, 2.9 GHz, Dual-core i5, Broadcom 20703A1 bluetooth chipset, Apple bluetooth software version 7.0.6f7, vendor 0x05AC, product 0x8290, Bluetooth Core spec 4.2 (0x8). Here's more specs. I can listen to youtube when i pair my bose soundsport bluetooth earphones. i can also listen to my apple-tv device when i pair my bose soundsport bluetooth earphones, so there's really no issues / problems with the bose earphones. Any video-calls on the macbook are terrible with the bluetooth audio - zoom, google meets, skype. even while launching / logging-in using the chrome-browser. particularly that this model macbook doesn't allow replacing the airport-card, what options do i got for clean and smooth bluetooth audio pairing with my bose soundsport earphones for video-calls? any way to debug using bluetooth explorer utility app as to why exactly bluetooth fails for video-calls while it works just fine for youtube videos? Best way to delay the Big Sur update on a Mac? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 07:25 AM PDT Hey! From what I read the Big Sur update is likely to launch in mid-November. From late November to December I have three big exams so I would like to postpone the Big Sur update until I am done with these exams just in case it is full of bugs. Any tips on how I can do this without the OS constantly annoy me with the new update? [link] [comments]

Anyone else having problems with the battery using the new MacBook Pro 13 inch (2020 model)? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 09:32 AM PDT Hey guys I bought MacBook Pro 13 inch model(the 2020 model) just 2 days ago and im already finding myself trouble with the poor battery life on my Mac. Not only the battery drains so fast, the computer seems to heat up quickly(esp when using Chrome). Plus, with the new feature that Apple came up with; which is called 'Battery Health Managerment', it seems to drain my battery even more so after waiting a few hours hoping something will get better with the feature turned on, I eventually had to turn the feature off. However, even after turning it off, nothing changed with the battery life, it only got worse. Anyone else having the same issue?? im using macOS Catalina(ver 10.15.7) AND SRSLY WAITING FOR THE NEXT UPDATE - BIG SUR. [link] [comments]
Quick question: Legacy system extensions Posted: 31 Oct 2020 09:17 AM PDT Hi guys, Anyone have a clue as to how I could see what legacy system extensions are currently on my device, I have gotten the system pop up that you usually get with the extensions a few times and its from a developer that I don't recognise. Lmk Thank you [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Oct 2020 07:01 AM PDT Hi, I have a 16GB SDHC card that I once used in a GoPro. I want to repurpose it, but cannot format the card. Each time I do, the previous contents are still there. Disk Utility's erase function completes successfully, but the card never gets erased. Diskutil from the terminal won't run because of it cannot unmount the disk. Unmounting it in the Finder has terminal report that the resource is busy, even as su. I tried the SDCard formatter app and Raspberry Pi's imaging utility. They all complete, but the original contents still remain. On Windows, diskpart will clean the disk, but lists it with only 3MB of free space afterwards. The card is not write protected. Is it toast? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 09:20 AM PDT I use 3 operating systems on daily basis: - Windows 10 - Linux (elementary OS) - macOS I find macOS the least comfortable to use, especially in terms of "window management". Since so many people prefer macOS over other OSs I started to think that maybe it's me who's doing something wrong! Here're my biggest problems:
One more thing - this post is not meant to share some "hate" for the OS, nothing like that. I am just trying to understand how to use it properly, becasue clearly I am missing something here. The described problems are quite crucial in my everyday work, and due to them, I'm considering to switch to Windows or Linux completely. Since I still think that macOS is the most "eye-pleasing" of the three (and it is an important factor for me), I'm trying to find reasons not to switch. Please share your thoughts. Mac doesn’t show all files on USB Posted: 31 Oct 2020 03:49 AM PDT Hello everybody! I am facing a problem with my MacBook Pro (2018) and I was hoping you could help me! I have some files (docs, pdfs nothing out of the ordinary) that when I copy to any flash drive (happend with three separate ones) the files only appear when the USB is plugged on Windows (so from a Windows 10 laptop to another Windows laptop all the files appear like normal). But when the flash drive is plugged on my Mac only half of the files appear. The files not appearing are almost identical to the ones that appear except some changed numbers and the name of the files of course. I tried reformatting the USBs to ExFAT but since the problem persists with three of them I don't think it's a USB problem. I also tried looking through the hidden files of the USB and still no luck. Any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Oct 2020 11:06 AM PDT Just updated to Catalina after avoiding it for months due to the many issues with it. And it came with immediate regret since my 2017 MacBook Pro 13" is now completely broken... Ever since the update, the battery won't charge. As soon as you remove the charger, the computer immediately dies. I use an original MacBook charger that is in perfect condition, all ports are clean, I've reset SMC and i've even reset the computer to fabrication settings and tried running it on the OS it came with (Sierra). No luck. Has anyone else had the same issue? Anything else I can do to try and fix it? [link] [comments] |
