Anyone else have the Service Battery warning in mid-2012 MBP? Posted: 11 Apr 2018 08:02 PM PDT I'm getting the 'Service Battery' alert on my mid-2012 MBP. Contacted support today and they suggested I take it into the Genius Bar for service. Has anyone had ANY experience doing this? How long does it take them to service/replace the battery? No option for 4-digit passcode Posted: 11 Apr 2018 05:50 PM PDT My moms iPhone 7 doesn't allow her to have a simple code. The phone only allows a 6-digit. The option for a 4 digit doesn't even show up. She took it to an Apple store and they looked at it for a long time and asked her if she was in the medical field. Seeing she is not, they suggested the phone is set up for someone in the medical field. It was like this when she had a 6 as well. Also because of this, her Apple Watch does not allow her to take off the passcode. The option is grayed out. I'm at a loss. Even Apple employees couldn't figure it out. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Apr 2018 05:47 PM PDT My iPad Air 2 is running on iOS 10.0. I have made multiple attempts through the past months to update to iOS 11 with no success. Updating over-the-air results in my iPad getting stuck on verifying update and then resetting itself with no update. Trying to update through iTunes on a computer results in it saying that there is no available update and I am at the latest one. My iPad has never been jailbroken. Can someone please help, thanks. Trying to install iMovie again after deleting it, now it says to update when I don't have it. Posted: 11 Apr 2018 09:30 PM PDT Deleted iMovie after I needed some space, but now I need it. When I went to the iMovie page to install it, it says "Update" and clicking it makes it load but never does anything. In purchased it says "Open" but clicking it doesn't open anything because I don't have it installed. Is there a way to fix this? [link] [comments] |
Members of my family's Apple Music membership have songs I downloaded ~10 years ago in their library Posted: 11 Apr 2018 03:28 PM PDT My family has a Family Apple Music membership. Since we joined this, a few of my family members libraries' are full of artists and songs I purchased/downloaded a LONG time ago. I don't even have access to them! I've looked all through my purchases and none of them are available to me yet they seem to download to everybody's phones but mine. Where are these songs located? If anyone has a solution to each of us only having our own songs we personally downloaded in our libraries that would be great! Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Smooth scrolling with trackpad but not mouse on MacBook Pro Posted: 11 Apr 2018 09:21 PM PDT Hello, I love my MBP 2017. I'm very used to the trackpad. I just made a setup where the laptop is connected to a TV via HDMI and I'm using the Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Desktop (wireless w/USB mini dongle). Now I can close the laptop and put it aside to make a "desktop" setup. My problem is that the scrolling with the mouse wheel doesn't behave like the trackpad. For Chrome, with the trackpad I get smooth scrolling, with the mouse I get choppy "old-style" scrolling. Is there anything I can try? Thanks.

How to search directory for iPhone backup Posted: 11 Apr 2018 09:11 PM PDT Long story short I misplaced a backup of an iPhone 6 that I had on a Mac. It's in one of five places, 2 Macs, a PC, an NAS, or two portable hard drives. Is there a string I can enter in a search for an entire drive for a backup file? [link] [comments] |
iTunes sync with Phone stuck on "Reading photos from "Photos"" Posted: 11 Apr 2018 09:06 PM PDT Ever since I upgraded to the latest ver. of iTunes, I've been having bugs (i.e can't delete songs from library). The most troubling of these, however, is that the sync seems to get stuck with reading my photo library. Is there any fix to this other downgrading to a prior ver. of iTunes? [link] [comments] |
Improving Workflow Help (IPhoneX>MacbookPro>Ext.Storage) Posted: 11 Apr 2018 08:42 PM PDT Hey All, Family member of mine is a heavy Apple user and asked me for some product advice. I'm personally a PC user and told them I would look into it. Hopefully I can find some help here!
Said family member works in the Wedding industry and takes large amounts of Photo and 4k Video. They want to be able to move photos/videos from Iphone X -> Macbook Pro(will be buying the 2018 version) -> External Storage as efficiently as reasonable. Ideally, they would like to have 3-4TB+ on the External Storage.
My understanding is the Iphone X still uses USB 2.0 (really?), so there will be an initial transfer bottleneck there. I believe "airdropping" is fast, but unreliable when it comes to large/numerous file transfers? So Iphone X -> Macbook Pro will have to be done via lightning cable.
Macbook Pro -> External storage is where I'm not sure what the best move would be. I assume the options are external HDD, External SSD, or NAS? I would really love your help with this part in particular. Also, is there an option that would allow External Storage -> Iphone X easily or even Iphone X -> External Storage directly? Is there a great way to utilize the thunderbolt speed for data transfer? Are there any snazzy Apple software/hardware that I should be aware of for this sort of thing? What are the Pros/Cons of different options? Etc... Any advice at all is greatly appreciated!
Price isn't a significant concern. I'm sure they wont want to spend $1,000 on a hard drive just for a little extra speed. However, this will be part of their daily business workflow and they are hoping to make it as painless as possible.
Thank you again in advice for anybody willing to offer advice! [link] [comments] |
Video Card for Dual 4K Screen on 5,1 macpro Posted: 11 Apr 2018 07:56 PM PDT Hello, I have a 5,1 MacPro and I am looking at upgrading my dual 1440 screen setup to dual 4k monitors. U have been trying to research my graphics card options and it looks like the only two requiring the least amount of hassle are the Radeon 7950 or the RX580. I really like the price of the 7950 compared to the RX580, but the age of the card is what has me worried. Just wondering if I have any other options in the $270 range (or less) thay will run dual 4k screens without a lot of hassle and having to worry about a future update breaking functionality? Gaming isn't a priority, this is mainly for usual counting and photoshop or in design work. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Apple Magic Keyboard Key Cap stuck in Actuation Posted: 11 Apr 2018 07:55 PM PDT Hey there. Title pretty much says it all. I popped a keycap off my apple keyboard and if I stick it back on, it's stuck in actuation. The switch doesn't look like it's broken but I don't really know where to start with trying to replace it. I was shocked when I went into the Apple store and they said if I wanted it fixed, they'd just sell me a new Apple Keyboard. Ridiculous for what I feel should only cost $10 would cost $70 if I do it through the Genius Bar... magic keyboard model a1644 F5 key [link] [comments] |
I've put liquid metal on my rMBP 2014 w/ dedicated VGA, and the difference is amazing! Posted: 11 Apr 2018 04:46 AM PDT Hi all, I've decided to try to fix the thermal throttling on my rMBP mid 2014 with dedicated VGA (Nvidia GeForce GT750m) since the CPU from 3,5GHz go down to 2,5GHz in a couple of seconds. For the first attempt I thought that a good thermal paste would be good enough, then, when I removed the heat spreader I've noticed that is made all of copper so I've decided to use the Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra, and my boys, best decision ever! After 6 months of normal use my rMBP " thermal throttle" between 3,1GHz and 3,3GHz (TBH since I have it, I never seen it reach the maximum frequency of 3,7GHz). It still reach 100°c like before, but I've gained near 1GHz under heavy loads, which is good! Of course battery drain way faster than before. Important note: If you are not in confidence with opening a computer don't do it because if a little drop of liquid metal jump on the motherboard and you didn't notice it, your computer will die because liquid metal is conductive. Edit:Since some users asked me a How-to guide I'll post a link with some picture ASAP. Edit2: Link of the pictures: https://imgur.com/a/Vyf0z [link] [comments] |

Need help with calendar sync (Google to something) Posted: 11 Apr 2018 06:54 PM PDT I'm in a bit of a conundrum that I can't seem to figure out. I'm trying to help my father with some calendar syncing between a Google calendar and some sort of private email/calendar. (I'm on mobile so apologies if the formatting here is a bit wonky.) Here's what he currently has in place that needs help.
He is looking for a way to do a one way sync of events from the Google calendar into his personal calendar and then make notes on these personal calendar events for future use. The reasoning here is that he wants to be able to make notes on these business events that only he could see and would not be shared to the public. For instance if they have a cookout he wants to be able to make notes directly in the calendar entry about it with things like number attended, food purchased, and food costs versus event price the customer pays. i had found a way to make private notes in the Google Calendar entries themselves using < text of the note > but its execution has been hit or miss from phone, web, or Google Calendar app to the point that I dont trust it to keep these notes as private within the event item. Perhaps making these notes is not ideal but he has his mind set that this way is the best way for him to do it. ive tried to convince him of keeping a separate app like OneNote or even the Notes app native to iOS but that isn't something he believes will work for him. TLDR; is there a way to do a one-way sync of Google Calendar events into another calendar in iOS so personal notes can be made that are not replicated back to the Google Calendar? Preferably this can be done natively within iOS or MacOS without needing some third party software to be constantly running to do the job (though if that's what it takes then that will be acceptable.) Speaker volume/quality in Windows 10 is poor on MacBook Pro 2016 (Touch Bar) Posted: 11 Apr 2018 02:55 PM PDT Seems to be a pretty widespread problem from googling but nobody has figured out a solution. Maximum volume is essentially halved compared to macOS, which isn't enough for things that aren't particularly loud to begin with. I've tried all kinds of speaker configurations — stereo, quadrophonic, surround, full range — but nothing matches the volume you get in macOS. A commonly reported trick is using the speaker enhancements' loudness equaliser to improve the volume. In fact all this seems to do is screw with the frequencies so it sounds a bit louder, but really it's still quieter than macOS and now you've lost your bass. Pretty much last ditch effort asking here before I resort to only using Windows with headphones. [link] [comments] |

Mac // grey screen with flashing question mark Posted: 11 Apr 2018 05:14 PM PDT Hi everyone, First off, I wish I remembered what Mac OS I have, but I unfortunately don't and have no way of doing that since it isn't letting me bypass the launch screen. When I reboot it it goes to a flashing grey question mark inside a folder. From checking other Apple forums, I was told to reboot and press Command and R immediately, which I did which brought me to a rotating globe that told me to sign into my wifi and once that connects it would take me to my system preferences (wrong), instead after a while of uploading it has a big fat exclamation mark inside of the globe with 'apple.com/support -2002F' below it. Apple support isn't exactly user friendlyl if I'm unable to get the serial number, anyone else had/have this problem before? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Apr 2018 03:22 PM PDT I recently switched phones and I have a new iCloud account. Even though everything has been switched on as far as iCloud backup, it doesn't show any storage being used and has obviously never done so whilst locked, connected to WiFi, connected to a power source, overnight. It also won't allow me to manually back it up. It fails every time, and not due to a storage incapacity. How can I fix this? I don't want to log out of iCloud because nothing on my phone is backed up currently. [link] [comments] |
Upgrading ram Macbook Pro (2012) Posted: 11 Apr 2018 03:14 PM PDT Hey everyone, I'm upgrading the ram on my Macbook pro and had a question. Can someone please tell me the difference between these two products? https://www.amazon.ca/Crucial-PC3-12800-Unbuffered-SODIMM-204-Pin/dp/B005LDLVAO And https://www.amazon.ca/Crucial-PC3-8500-SODIMM-204-Pin-Memory/dp/B008LTBJFM The first one states it's not Mac compatible, however multiple comments state it has worked in their Macbook pro. The one specifically for Mac is more expensive, so would it be fine to get the first one? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Issue to reboot / shutdown MBP - Black Screen with Cursor Posted: 11 Apr 2018 03:00 PM PDT Hi all, Small issue but frustrating one happening on my MacBook Pro 15" 2017. Specs: 3,1 GHz Intel Core i7, running 10.13.3 (17D102). Basically I am unable to shutdown/restart the Macbook, it always ends up with a black screen and my cursor popping up again. I have no clue what's happening. Brought it into one of the local Apple centers and they told me to do a full erase and restore from a Time Machine backup but this didn't help. The only way I can just shutdown or reboot the Mac successfully without having to press the power button for a force shutdown, is to run a terminal shutdown command. Could anyone give any insight on this? Would really appreciate it! I am unable to update my mac or install any updates since this issue. If I missed any information, let me know, cheers.
