Posted: 28 Nov 2019 09:58 PM PST I tried out F.lux today because I like the general shift in color temperature but I noticed something. Part of the screen is less affected by f.lux than the rest. Specifically the bottom right quadrant. Is there a way I can test this or am I just seeing things? [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Nov 2019 09:51 PM PST I need to get a laptop for travel and making myself more mobile. I was asking a friend (well, sorta friend...just this guy I know) about Mac Books and he was telling me to forgo the newer ones and find a refurbished 2015 MBP. Something about how they're workhorses that never seem to die and have comparable performance to newer machines. I'm finding it difficult to believe a 4, almost 5 year old laptop can hold its own with a new one. I want to get something somewhat soon. The idea of buying an older machine helps the cost factor, but I do not want to buy an outdated POS. I'd rather just fork down the cash and get something good. If it matters, I'll only be using this for surfing, email, and coding. No video editing or gaming. If I do any graphics at all, they'll be small things in Photoshop. Any thoughts? ps: Originally posted this on /r/apple but it was immediately snagged by automod. I'm guessing this might be a better place to ask this. [link] [comments]
Is Anyone with a 2015 Retina Pro Still Able to Accomplish Anything at all In AI or PS? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 03:15 PM PST if so, which type of sorcery do you practice? Even just moving an object will freeze up everything for a few seconds. If i want to modify a patten, i basically need to excuse myself for 20 minutes while it loads. Even then, no guarentee I'll be able to adjust anything. Every article ive found suggests clean my mac and its competitors, which ive been running daily for years now.. found 1 article that had me remove some apps from preferences and from launch at startup.. didnt do much either. I still have nearly half of my storage remaining (aprox 230gb), 2.5 GHz, 16 GB memory. Im still running mojave 10.14.5, but this issue has long predated any software updates, and im apprehensive to install updates for sake of amplifying the issue. Grateful for any advice on how to whip it back into shape. [link] [comments]
2017 Macbook Air, 5th gen i5 + 8GB - Worth it in 2019? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 06:16 PM PST Hi all! I'm a software developer who mostly working on web and mobile development. Today I use an 8th gen i7 Dell on a daily basis (for professional use; I have my gaming rig at home), but building and developing for iOS is complicated as I have to use a shared machine. Even regular stuff is a pita sometimes, as Windows is limited in the terminal regards and Linux.. well, its Linux, great under the hood until your DE freezes for no reason. While browsing the webz, I found a deal on a 2017 MBA, for "just" 700 dollars in my local currency. Brand new with warranty from a well known retailer. I read some people saying the Airs are crap for workloads, I read some saying that its actually capable.. My only interaction with MacOS is with a 2011 Mac mini, so I guess my standard is pretty low in the Mac department. Perhaps I could gain some productivity having this Air as a sidekick, for working on the go plus deal with Apple ecosystem. I'm looking for an honest opinion - is it REALLY that bad? I dont expect to run VMs, huge dockers (maybe just one or two mysql containers, for example) or Photoshop, for example. [link] [comments]

Can you run a dock with 2 extended HDMI monitors and ethernet jack? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 04:27 PM PST I have the entry MBP 1.4, got a great deal on the 256 GB one.. 1178 after taxes. It only has the 2 thunderbolt ports on one side so I want to use this as a desktop replacement at my job but need 2 HDMI monitor outputs, usb for keyboard, usb for mouse, and an ethernet jack. Is all that possible with the 2 thunderbolt ports and does anyone have any recommended docks they use? [link] [comments]

USB-C MagSafe adapters - anybody using those? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 05:59 AM PST Still using my 2013 MBP so I'm wondering if there's any replacement for MagSafe w/ USB-C. I know there are plenty on Amazon but most are very badly rated. I'm wondering: Is there anybody who uses an adapter like that on a regular basis and is totally happy? How are they compared to original MagSafe? [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Nov 2019 03:42 PM PST Not sure how this happen, but today when I went to power on my laptop nothing happened. After a while I noticed a very faint image on my screen. When plugging it in I heard the sound it makes when initially charging so I knew it was on. I tried a myriad of things with Apple support and ultimately was told they will replace, but I need to call back tomorrow. It seems the lighting for the screen died and the keyboard light was not on either. Not sure if it's connected somehow. [link] [comments]

What's the highest operating system I can go and still be stable? Posted: 28 Nov 2019 10:03 AM PST Hey all, I just revived an old early 2008 macbook 13" that's been sitting for years and wanting to do a few small upgrades to it. Somewhat new when it comes to mac software and when I want to upgrade to an ssd, any thoughts on the most recent software I can install onto the new drive and still be stable? Most videos I've seen is people installing snow leopard, but idk if that's the highest or if we can go newer? Thanks for any advice :) [link] [comments]

MBP 15” vs MBP 16” (both base models) Posted: 28 Nov 2019 04:11 AM PST Hi I have a mid-2012 macbook air that I've been using for 6 years now, and I want to upgrade to a macbook pro for the display. I definitely don't need the MBP for what I do, but I just want a bigger and better screen. Where I live, the 15" is about $400 cheaper than the 16", and my question is: should I just pay $400 more and get the 16" or should I just buy the 15"? I want to buy it ASAP and the 16" hasn't been released in my country yet, so I'm really indecisive on what to do. [link] [comments]
Help using Macbook Pro 2017 with 2 external monitors Posted: 28 Nov 2019 02:05 AM PST I have a Macbook Pro 2017 (Mojave 10.14.6) connected to 2 Dell U2417H monitors. Monitor 1 is in landscape mode and monitor 2 is in portrait mode. I routinely unplug my laptop to go to meetings or at the end of the day. Every single time I try and plug the monitors back in again, my Mac will either:
The portrait mode monitor is connected via a HDMI-USBC cable straight into my laptop. The landscape monitor is connected via an HDMI-HDMI cable to some port (that includes usb, usbc, hdmi etc.). Sometimes, even the order upon which I connect the cables determines outcomes 1-2-3. Is there anything I can do? It's driving me crazy. Usually, the solution is to restart, turn off/on monitors and reconnect but this really disrupts my workflow. Thanks [link] [comments] |
