New Macbook Keyboard is way better Posted: 07 May 2019 11:16 PM PDT I bought my first macbook two years ago as a used 2015 12" MB. Loved the thing. The keyboard was different but I didn't hate it like many others. Just upgraded to the 2017 12" MB and I can already feel the difference between the keys and I love the difference. While I mostly use a Satechi external keyboard every now and then I'd have to take the little thing out in the world and do some work there. It was never a deal breaker, I just couldn't type as well with the built in keyboard. But this new one, the 2017, is way different and I love it. I just thought I'd throw my two cents out there. I/O questions about external displays (e.g. UHD @ 60hz) with a Macbook Pro Late 2013 Posted: 07 May 2019 02:01 PM PDT I know this question might be stupid, since I've researched it online, and the lack of conversation about it makes me think it is entirely possible. Anyway, I just want to ask you guys. So let's say that I have an external [insert brand name] display with DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 connections. Apple's specifications say that the HDMI port only supports 1080p up to 60hz. However, what about the Thunderbolt 2.0 connections that the MBP has? Can I use those as outputs into the DisplayPort inputs of the monitor to achieve a reasonable DPI at 60hz? The MBP Late 2013 15" version has a DPI of about 200, I think. I was looking to get a 27" UHD display, which would add up to about 160 DPI - meaning I could still get a reasonably sharp, yet smooth picture. I forgot to mention that my budget is on the low end. The reasoning for getting the monitor is basically that I'm working both home and on the go a lot, so having all my stuff on one computer is really nice. Then when I get home, I could plug into a bigger monitor for more productive and comfortable work. Thank you in advance for any helpful explanations! [link] [comments]
Is the 2019 MBP likely worth waiting for? Posted: 07 May 2019 09:23 AM PDT Obviously, we have nothing but rumors about the suspected 2019 MacBook Pro thus far. Do you guys think this will be worth the wait? I'm a first year college freshman starting next fall, and I'm looking to get a MacBook for school purposes. I will be using it for basic school work like documents, slides, etc. as well as the average consumer use such as YouTube, Netflix, Reddit, basic music production with GarageBand or other programs, etc. I will not be doing any heavy video or photo editing. Is the 2019 MacBook Pro that is rumored worth the wait? The 2018 13" MBP with Touchbar is also an option for me, as well as the 2018 MacBook Air. Should I wait to get a new 2019 Pro before I buy another model? Would it be possible to purchase a 2018 model, then take advantage of the return policy and then get a 2019 model if it interests me? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Question - School offering Apple product deals Posted: 07 May 2019 01:02 PM PDT Hi! My college is offering some devices at a discount for graduation. I was wondering if anything from the following list would be worth the purchase? I currently have a Macbook Pro 2013 15" Love it - no issues, but was considering an upgrade or desktop. I am graduating college and would like a nicer home computer for larger projects. Please see attached list, let me know what you think! Thanks [link] [comments]
To buy a MacBook air/pro or not to buy? Posted: 07 May 2019 04:36 PM PDT I will be starting my medical residency in July and have been wanting a new laptop for a while, so I am thinking this will be the perfect time to buy a new laptop! After reading up on the different Apple laptops available, I think I'd want a 13" Macbook Air or a 13" Macbook Pro (without the touch bar). The only thing holding me back is reading different comments on Reddit and the internet that makes it sound like these new laptops are not worth the cost. What are your thoughts? Should I buy a new laptop now or hold out for an undetermined time until there is an update? For reference, I currently have a 15" Macbook Pro (Retina, Early 2013). No significant issues except speed and weight of the laptop. I would be using my laptop for word processing, presentations, music, video streaming, and internet browsing. I also will probably be connecting remotely to work servers and potentially viewing some large image files through said remote connection. I appreciate any educated opinions - I just cannot decide! Thank you! [link] [comments]

Is it worth it to get the keyboard repaired (MBP 2018)? Posted: 07 May 2019 12:29 PM PDT Hello, After 6 years on a Macbook Air, I decided to buy a new one because I needed a faster computer for work. So I bought the 2018 Macbook Pro with the Touch Bar in December. I love it, but my keyboard started to fail about a month after the purchase. I'm like a lot of other people here : I depend on my Macbook to work every day and I absolutely can't leave it to Apple for several days. I'm also reading a lot of comments which say the repairs don't work and the new keyboards keeps failing... Have some of you repaired your keyboard and it works fine now? Do we know why some Macbooks keep having the issue even after the keyboard is replaced? And some others will never have the issue at all? I'm really wondering if I should try and repair it or if it's pointless. Thanks and sorry for posting yet another post on the keyboard issue... [link] [comments]
What to do with a Macbook Pro? Posted: 07 May 2019 12:48 PM PDT I have a Macbook Pro 2018 laying around gathering dust for more than six month. I've always been a Windows and sometimes Ubuntu/Mint user but since it was at a very affordable price I said okay why not, let's try MacOS. But... I have no idea what to do with it. Everything I do on computers I do it better on a Windows machine. Mac OS and Windows felt just like iOS and Android to me. Any suggestion? What can be done better on MacOS than Windows? For what reason would a Windows user get a Macbook? Maybe developing iOS apps? What else??? [link] [comments]
Possible to save a slow Macbook Pro 2011? Posted: 07 May 2019 08:39 AM PDT I have a 15 in Macbook pro from 2011. It is incredibly slow and makes it difficult for me to get any work done. I use the Adobe creative suite regularly. Do I need to recycle this one and see what I can get or is there a way for me to salvage this guy. The screen size is ideal and of course paying for a new one at that size is not. Thanks for any help!! Disclaimer: I know nothing about the inner workings of computers. So you might be thinking something obvious that I have no idea about. [link] [comments]
Clearing MacBook Pro "System Storage" Posted: 07 May 2019 08:33 AM PDT I have the new MacBook Pro without Touch Bar and my disk becomes full very easily. when I check the storage there is 87 gb of system storage. If anyone has information on how to try and reduce this without having me download a "Mac cleaner" that would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
