Major iPhone FaceTime bug lets you hear the audio of the person you are calling, before they pick up Posted: 28 Jan 2019 03:44 PM PST |
Posted: 28 Jan 2019 06:31 AM PST Suppose you have created life, and given this life both an iPhone and an iPad which they have carelessly left in the living room. The living room, of course, being well within very clear ear-shot of your bed, but not within physical reach. Also suppose that this genial half-wit has set up multiple tiered alarms on both devices in an attempt to wake up early despite the fact that they typically sleep through these alarms even when the iOS devices in question are positioned right goddamn next to them. When these alarms inevitably wake you (but not them) from your much needed rest, you can take your iPhone (positioned handily within reach) and FaceTime their iCloud account for a brief couple of rings. This will silence the alarms on their devices without you having to break the seal on your warm blankets. Then repeat every 15 minutes because they really wanted to get up early, today. A person reported the Group FaceTime exploit to Apple, 9 days ago Posted: 29 Jan 2019 01:38 AM PST 21 Jan 2019 - @MGT7500 on Twitter
https://twitter.com/MGT7500/status/1087171594756083713 This was nine days ago. The user said they reported it 10+ days ago. Assuming that their reporting procedures work, then Apple's engineering team saw this and filed it to the side for the next scheduled point update. That's completely egregious behavior for a company which prides itself on privacy. They should've pulled Group FaceTime immediately for everybody on the affected iOS update via the server-side and issued a patch fix. The best interpretation of this is that there was a breakdown of communications between Apple Support and Apple's engineering teams and the message simply didn't get passed along ... which would indicate a broken report system if something of this scale slipped through the cracks. According to the person on Twitter, they sent it to all the links on Apple's Security Issues page https://twitter.com/MGT7500/status/1090163397788745728
