Help! New MacBook Pro randomly opens mail app

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 11:43 PM PDT

Hey y'all! Just bought a brand new MacBook Pro about 2 and a half weeks ago. I am up tomato with the software (macOS Mojave) and Sometimes while I'm watching a youtube video in full screen, the mail app opens up to my inbox into split screen. There are no new messages when this happens, it seems to just randomly open up for no reason. Do yall know what could be causing this???

Also thought I should mention, I have a netted back pack, and I got rained on the other day while walking to class with my MBP in there, so I turned it over where my binder would get wet instead of the MBP. The laptop got a little wet around the edges (to be more specific, near the charging ports and the audio in port. it wasn't soaked but it looked damp and I dried it off immediately.

    thanks!

MacBook Air 265gb or MacBook Pro 128gb?

    2015 Macbook needing a new USB-C port.

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 10:15 PM PDT

so... I got the mac book a few months after it came out. I used it for college, which i failed, and basically used it for either travel or just BS'ing with MacOS. So basically, i put windows 10 on it using bootcamp, and when i attempted to plug my iPhone into the port using a lightning to USB-C cable, windows told me that the port surged. To be honest, i started thinking back and i think i know how i surged the port. when i first found out about this issue, i brought it to my local Apple store. Mistakes were made and they didnt help. Now, fast forwarding to today, i would like to either continue using this macbook, or dispose of it at the lovely NY tech recycling bins... (gotta love that). I saw the iFixit video fixing the mac and its super lengthy and super tedious.

i guess this means, lets talk money.

Lag issues on MacBook Pro 13" 2018

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 11:25 AM PDT

I recently just got a MacBook Pro 13" 2018 with the i5 and 8gb of ram. I am noticing a lot of lag when it comes to resizing windows and sometimes when swiping between desktops. I'm actually kind of disappointed that this is happening on a 1700 machine. I have a Dell XPS 13 with an 8th gen i7 and that has never happened on that machine. Is this a Mojave issue or is something up with this computer.

Question about SSD on macbook pro

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 05:45 AM PDT

I'm looking to buy a refurbished Macbook Pro from 2015 for university and I want to get into music production. I'm going to go for 8GB RAM but I'm unsure how much SSD is appropriate for what I'll be doing. Any ideas what would be acceptable? Thanks!

External SSD for MacBook for DJing?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 05:20 AM PDT

Hello all! I have a 2014 era MacBook and fortunately it's still holding up well (I wiped it clean half a year ago to help this). I don't have too much of the 128 G hard drive free, and even if I deleted the movies and pdfs of my favorite short stories that are taking up most of this space, it still wouldn't accommodate the 100 Gigs of music I have on an external hard drive as well as the Trezor DJ software I want to run on it. Could a solution be purchasing an External SSD, connecting it to my Thunderbolt usb port, and then running the DJ software off of it and keeping all of my music on it? Would that work well, without any noticeable lagging or glitching or interference?

Adding RAM and SSD drive inside a Macbook 1,1 Black

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 07:30 AM PDT

    Update:

    • It is possible to install Snow Leopard
    • It does support Bootcamp
    • Yes
    • It already has, my bad.
    • Can't install Windows 10 since it's 64bit and this machine is 32bit.

All of this was because I wanted to have an up-to-date Chrome browser for that machine mostly, but I think I'll go safe and install Snow Leopard + the latest functional Chrome version for it. Case closed.

    ====

    Hello,

As the title says, I got an old Macbook Black 1,1 (free). I'm planning on upgrading it with the following:

    • Is it possible to install 10.6 Snow Leopard? AFAIK this is the last OS that this model supports.
    • Does 10.6 supports Bootcamp? AFAIK it does but just need some clarification.
    • Is it possible to add more RAM inside?
    • Is it possible to add an SSD drive inside, or even replace the current HDD for an unique SSD drive?
    • All of the before mentioned is because I also want to install Windows 10 with Bootcamp, will it be possible?

What I'm also "fearing" is that the CPU - that I know it can't be replaced - won't cut it for Windows 10. Any insight on this is appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.

HELP! MacBook Air stopped working randomly and won’t turn on.

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 06:41 AM PDT

I will take it to Apple to get looked at, I just have -$ right now and AppleCare is way past expired.

Last night my friend and I were watching Netflix on it, had it on the nightstand (not charging) and fell asleep. I woke up and it was dead. This is nothing new, we do this all the time. This morning I go to charge it but the light on the charger isn't working. I think ok... maybe it's the outlet. Nope, all outlets are working fine. I press and hold the power button for it to tell me to charge it, but nothing pops up at all. Now I'm starting to think my whole laptop is fried. I can't for the life of me figure out HOW this could possibly happen!? Do they just crap out after 4 years or something? I've never taken better care of a device in my life, it's my most expensive possession I worked so hard to get. I can't afford to replace it right now. I replaced the charger less than 6 months ago. This is a 2014 MacBook Air, it's worked as great as it did 4 years go, up until now. Any advice or tips is very appreciated!

    MacBook Pro 2015 vs 2017

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 02:52 AM PDT

Hello, so I'm making a decision on whether to upgrade to a 2017 or 2018. Right now the specs for my 2015 MacBook are 2.5ghz i7, 16gb memory, Radeon R9.

I video edit a lot as it's my full time job. I have an iMac at home, but when I travel, I need a MacBook to edit. So the 2015 has been going strong, but I have an opportunity to get the 2017 or maybe even the 2018 model. Would it be worth upgrading to? If so which model would I need to get to see a significant difference in the rendering speeds and overall better performance when video editing. Thanks!

Need help purchasing a MacBook Pro

    Posted: 04 Oct 2018 05:45 AM PDT

I'm wanting to purchase a MBP, and will primarily be using it for making Music (Ableton), using Adobe Suites, and maybe 3D modeling programs like Rhino 3DS. I also do some light gaming. I'm not so much concerned with the year, but I need it to run everything efficiently. My current laptop takes ages to boot and crashes at the worst times and I'm really tired of it. I've seen some upgraded 2011-2013 MacBook Pros for pretty decent prices, but since I've never had a MacBook, I don't know much about them. The thing is I also don't have a big budget. Not really willing to spend over $850 right now. Any idea on some options?
