Is this MacBook Pro deal worth it?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2018 01:44 PM PDT

I have a chance to pick up a 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and Final Cut and Logic X for $1000. 2.9ghz i5 with 256gb. Is this worth it or should I go for the starting new MBP for $1,300?

How much should I sell my MacBook Air for?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2018 07:34 PM PDT

11 inch MacBook Air, early 2014, 4GB RAM, 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5

Purchased in 2014. I only used it in college for writing papers and occasional research. I basically stopped using it after I graduated (May 2017). It doesn't have any cosmetic issues (no blaring scrapes/scratches, no dents, smooth edges) Will come with original charger and a black sleeve.

I can honestly say it gave me zero problems while I had it and I feel confident that it would last several more years if I kept it. I'm only selling it because I don't use it anymore!

I'm think $300 but someone just said they wouldn't spend more than $200 on it. Would do you all think?

    Macbook Pro 2018 13 Inch, i5vsi7 and 8gb ram vs 16gb ram

    Posted: 14 Oct 2018 05:43 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

I am done with windows laptops :| and am looking to buy a macbook pro 2018 13 inch. I'm just not sure what specs are right for me.

I am a software engineering student so my main uses for the macbook pro will be:

    - Running Virtual machines or mobile emulators on the laptop

    - Programming IDE's; VSCode, Intellij, AndroidStudio, GnatProgrammingStudio etc

    - Web browsing with 15+ tabs

    - MS Office

Based on these uses, I was thinking i5 with 8gb ram and 256gb SSD (i mainly use cloud storage anyway) will be good for me.

What I want to know is: Will upgrading to i7 and/or 16gb ram actually give me any significant performance boost or future proof my laptop? I'm most concerned about these 2 things as money is not a problem, just don't wanna pay for the placebo.

    Thanks !

Advice needed: New MacBook vs new Surface Pro

    Posted: 14 Oct 2018 02:23 PM PDT

I currently own 2 computers. A MBP (early 2011, 15 inch, swapped in SSD, motherboard, & new battery) that runs like a champ, but is still getting on in age, and a Surface Pro 3 (G4GB, i3, 64GB).

This morning I accidentally cracked my SP3 screen, and now I'm facing buying a new machine to take its place. My issue is that I haven't been keeping up with the markets, and don't know how the builds look these days. I LOVE how powerful my MBP is, but it's old and a pain in the ass to carry around, and the battery life isn't awesome.

The most intensive programs that I run are Photoshop and Illustrator (I do some graphic work), and would like whatever device I buy next to be able to support that.

I'm also in my last year of school right now, so the student aspect is less important, but I need something with enough battery to get me through the odd class where I can't plug in.

I love the tablet functionality of the SP3, but I don't use it a TON (though it's been really nice to have when I do use it) and my primary love of my SP3 comes from how portable and lightweight it is (unlike my current MBP).

Would love to have 500gb hard drive minimum, but I'm guessing I can get an SD card if I go for a new SP.

What do you think I should do? How is the MacBook line up looking right now? I would like to be as cost efficient as I can to meet my needs and am looking for the right fit.

    Thank you!

    Upgraded from MacBook to Chromebook

    Posted: 14 Oct 2018 09:02 AM PDT

My 12 MacBook has been nothing but a problem with the terrible keyboard (very loud clicking, almost no travel and keys too firm). Anyway, a good keyboard is very important to me and was considering a Thinkpad after 20 years of using Apple laptops. Costco had the Thinkpad on display and an Acer Chromebook 14." Using my iPhone as a hotspot, tried out the Acer with some YouTube videos and was amazed at the quality of the screen, the super nice keyboard and the amazing speakers for under $250. I bought it immediately (even came with a free sleeve and a mouse).

I'd used Chromebook in the past as an experiment, bought used off of eBay and ended up using that C710 all of the time and MacBook collected dust. (I donated it to someone in need.) So I'm not unfamiliar with Chromebook.

Going to sell the MacBook Retina. Still have a 2009 MacBook Pro as a backup for...I don't know, who knows.

This is just a PSA that a Chromebook can be more than sufficient for a lot of Mac users who don't really need a $1500 laptop to play YouTube, web surf and write papers.

SSD from Early 13" 2015 model to Mid 2015 15" model

    Posted: 14 Oct 2018 04:26 AM PDT

Since my Early model died, I am looking for a replacement. I found a 15" 2015 model which is missing the SSD, which is perfect, but is it possible to insert the one from the 13" 2015 model?
