But the Watch wasn't listed, only my Mac and iPad. On the Apple Watch app changing notifications and sounds doesn't do anything. When I get a phone call, i want to be able to press the button and go direct to speakerphone, right now, it says "audio" during a call and it shows Watch and Speaker as options. [link] [comments]  |

Very soon my family and I will be celebrating my grandmother's 90th birthday. As a gift, her grandchildren (me included) want to get her the newest iPad (not the Pro version I believe). Along the way, my cousins have decided that they want to get her a case as well as a pencil/stylus. My cousin wants to get her "the greatest, and the best" and does not want to compromise for the Logitech Crayon, it's the Apple Pencil or nothing. Here are somethings to consider:
Since my cousin insists on the the Apple Pencil, my question is, what other features beyond the pressure sensitivity and battery life would make such a difference that it would justify a $40+ price difference? (In CAD) I just graduated university without a lot of money so I don't really want to pay the difference if there isn't a game changing feature that the Pencil has that the Crayon doesn't. Thanks! | Posted: 18 Oct 2018 02:35 PM PDT so my MacBook Pro 15 (mid 2010) (RAM Upgraded to 8GB and hdd was replaced with an ssd) is almost regulary crashing (even before changing the hdd to the ssd, after swapping the two i also reinstalled Sierra like two days ago) The Problem seems to be little snitch but i dont know how to fix it, i just updated little snitch and am waiting to see if it happens again but if someone has the same issue can you please tell me how to fix it ? (iPhone 7/iOS 12) Posted: 18 Oct 2018 09:25 PM PDT So i contacted applecare about this and they wanted 300$ to fix it but wouldn't tell me what they thought was wrong with it. My iPhone 7 that i've had for two years, bought new from T-mobile, decided to straight up stop working. I answered a call from my boyfriend this morning and it was fine until about five minutes into the call where he couldn't hear me and i couldn't hear him except for a few words. About a minute after that, everything he said while i couldn't hear him came all at once like a sped up cassette tape. This happened when we spoke on discord as well. When i contacted apple support, they told me to update my phone to iOS 12, so i did. that made everything at least 10 times worse. My microphone isn't working now, my siri won't even turn on to listen to me, and i can't press my speaker button during calls (it's like greyed out). Speaker used to work better than speaking without it, so i used that until i couldn't. I've turned it off and on, updated my ios, reset my network settings, i've cleaned my mic as best as i could, and nothing has happened except it got worse. tl;dr: my calls sound like sped up cassettes and apple support made everything much worse. Got a iPhone Xs over the weekend and now my car will pair with the phone for a while then will fail to pair later causing me to repeatedly repair my phone with car. What could be the issue? | Posted: 18 Oct 2018 10:48 AM PDT I'm trying to think where they might have scraped this data from. I have the trip in my calendar, and an Alaska Air app/Wallet with my boarding passes. I have used Uber in my destination (Orlando) before, but last used it at home, and haven't opened it for weeks. I didn't receive the promo for my hometown, either. I haven't been searching for my destination and can't think of any other cookies that might give this away. It could be coincidence, but I'm skeptical given their history. For reference, the email was their "Don't miss out on up to 15% off everyday rides" promo for the greater Orlando area. If anyone else got this, it may just be that I'm on that regional mailing list, but I typically don't get emails about that area unless I'm physically there with GPS on. [link] [comments]  |

| 2012 Macbook Pro Prohibited Sign Posted: 18 Oct 2018 12:23 PM PDT Hey everyone, I turned on my laptop this morning and was greeted with a prohibited sign. I put it into internet recovery mode, went into disk utility and ran first aid on both disks. No problems were found. Afterwards I went to re install the OS but no hard drive was displayed (although it showed it was reading my hard drive in disk utility). I changed the hard drive to a Samsung evo 256 GB ssd a few months ago. Any advice on what to do from here? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance. [link] [comments]  |

It heats up quickly when using it while running Messenger, Reddit or Safari. None of which are heavy on the phone. I am running iOS 12. I noticed today a couple weird plist files in my Library called "mixpanel" at the beginning with some stuff that comes after that initial title. | Help changing read-only files to have read and write permission Posted: 18 Oct 2018 07:18 PM PDT Little back story: I'm a windows user but my laptop broke so now I need to use my sibling's mac to access my external drive, and I don't know what to do. Anyway, I need advice/help regarding deleting read-only files. The folders that I'm trying to delete are my external drive's recycle bin's contents. They're taking up too much space and I need to back up whatever files that I can from my windows before I send it in for repairs. This is my first time using terminal and I've tried rm -f, entered the password, and (folder) is a directory came up. Then I tried rm -r, said yes to overriding the folder, and Read-only file system came up. The OS is High Sierra. [link] [comments]  |

| CarPlay keep disconnecting (seemingly at random) Posted: 18 Oct 2018 07:00 PM PDT I just bought a new car (Honda Insight) and I'm having issues with CarPlay. It connects without an issue and sometimes stays connected during the whole drive. But randomly it seems to totally disconnect (music stops playing, screen goes dead, etc.). It's possible that it disconnects when some push notifications come through, but if so, it's not consistent because most of the time notifications come through without disrupting the performance. Unplugging the phone and plugging it back in fixes the issue. That is my experience most of the time, however one time it REALLY fucked up. Screen went dead, mid phone call stopped and was replaced with this very loud obnoxious tone that sounded dangerous given that it startled me and I was on the freeway. Unplugging and plugging everything back in fixed the issue. That's only happened the one time though. Edit: sorry for the typo in the title... it should be 'keeps'... [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 18 Oct 2018 06:29 PM PDT Due to a weird sync accident in dropbox, I changed the name of a folder and the result was a duplication of the folder. Unfortunately one of the dropbox users (me) kept using the old folder and another started putting new files in the new folder. So now I've got two folders (full of nested folders) that each has a few new documents that aren't in the other, and duplicate filenames with slightly different contents/data. What I need to do is designate one of the two folders as the final destination and copy from the other folder to that one every file that isn't present in the destination folder, and either overwrite the duplicate files with the one with the later edited date, or preferably duplicate only the files with internal changed data. Most of the files are identical in the two folders. I think that Rsync should be able to do this, and Rsync is built in to Mac OS. However, I know it can also be a dangerous tool and cause data loss if used improperly. So I'd like some guidance choosing the right parameters. Assuming rsync is the best way to do this, what parameters and syntax should I apply in running the command? And if not, what would be a better way? [link] [comments]  |

I deleted and tried adding the account back again, cleared my cache, and did everything I could find on other forums. Any help? On my mac im running Macos Sierra and ios 12 on my iphone. Thank You! | Posted: 18 Oct 2018 10:44 AM PDT Last night my laptop was telling me "USB Accessories Disabled", which I googled and saw I needed to do an SMC restart, which I did. My laptop was already plugged in the the time, and when it booted back up, it was charging and I did not continue to receive the error message. When I got to class this morning, my laptop was dead. I figured I might have unplugged it before bed or something like that without remembering, so I grabbed my charger and plugged it in. It wasn't charging, but when I tested the charger on my phone (Google Pixel), it worked. I'm using the same charger that came with my laptop. When I got home, I was able to get one USB port to work just by luck, but none others do, and if I unplug the charger, all of the ports become unresponsive until I restart the laptop. Although sometimes still when I plug the charger in, it won't work with the laptop, but charging it with an external battery will work. And at that same time, the laptop charger will work with my phone, but like I said, not with my laptop. I also noticed while I was as a class this morning, after all of this, my laptop was drained down to 30% after being full, and was extremely warm, even though I hadn't touched it for an hour. I've read that it can be a logic board issue, and also the overheating could be due to the fan. I have an appointment at the Apple store today, but is there any information anyone can tell me as to what's going on? I appreciate any help at all. Thank you! | I keep running out of space / Mail "drafts" folder? Posted: 18 Oct 2018 02:27 PM PDT I recently got a Mac Pro with lots of internal storage, but weekly I get messages about running out of space, and it's always the same offender -- my Drafts folder in Library / Mail. Currently it's holding 75gb of files, even though I cleared it out just last month. When cleared it, though, I noticed that it messed with some of my active mail -- messages were missing entirely, some threads were gone etc -- meaning, I get unpredictable results, so I'm hesitant to delete it wholesale. I don't deliberately hold onto drafts. Currently I have none in my folder in the Mail app, so why is there 75gb worth in my finder? It's an obscene amount of real estate for something so trivial. I wish I didn't have to constantly keep my eye on it, or risk losing mail I actually want to keep to get rid of it. There are hundreds of cryptic sub-folders in Drafts so it's difficult to put a finger on what's taking up so much space. I couldn't send 75gb of attachments in a month if I tried, so is it just making a unique file every time I save a message I'm writing? Is there a preference somewhere that governs this? Thank you. *edit: doing a little more digging around, yes it seems that every time I cmnd-S a message I'm writing it makes a new file in Drafts. In one instance I have a message with a 20mb attachment with over 30 iterations in just a few minutes, so it adds up quick. Saving is automatic for me; usually I will after I finish a sentence just out of muscle-memory habit (I'm a writer by trade). Is my solution to retrain myself not to save as much? That seems silly. | Internal Mic & Crappy Audio Issues Posted: 18 Oct 2018 12:04 PM PDT Hey Friends. I have this odd issue where anytime I connect my airpods or beats to my MacBook Pro, it also changes the internal mic to that device as well. This causes me to have the worst audio imaginable unless I open the sound settings, and switch it back to the internal mic. I can not figure out how to stop this behavior. Is there any tricks or way to prevent the mic from switching, or is there some setting that is causing the audio to be so crappy. Mainly so I can use my Drobo which I had set up with my 2014 MacBook Pro, but also so I can use external displays, etc. What are my options? It doesn't seem to work with a typical USB-C hub like this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DX685VV Nor does the Apple USB-C to Thunderbolt 2 connector work. Today wouldn't boot fully. Just took it apart and cleaned it with alcohol as per iFixit and Trio Mac Repair. It looks to me like this connector http://imgur.com/a/SLm7yDZ got hot and was melted slightly. I'm assuming it's the keyboard connector but I'm an idiot. I haven't reassembled or attempted a boot yet. What is that connector? Can I replace it? Who could? Other ideas/advice? I have some experience soldering SMD but no air gun yet. Let me know if another is more suitable. So I was going through my files, clearing some space on my Macbook Pro (model from around '11-'13 in case of relevance).I came across multiple images of a man I don't know/recognize. They're just pictures of him from middle of the chest upwards. In some he's holding an object in others it's just him looking at the camera.The background doesn't seem familiar, very sure this is someone in another building entirely.These aren't pictures airdropped or anything as I have never used it. Can't find the pictures online.They are also not iCloud pictures I've accidentally gotten through family share or anything similar.They are, again, not screenshots that I took a long time ago and forgot about. They just randomly appeared now as I'm looking through them.-- As I was typing out this post I looked through the files again to find the dates. There are more pictures than just this man. There are images of the moonlanding, 2 black and white images titled "scene" featuring a white bust, random stockphotos, ripped footage of a traffic cam and much more.All these unexplained images have the dates 2 August 2016 and 3 August 2016.I've also found many random .css and .js files... From 2 - 3 August 2009. Before I even had this laptop. Years.It's not like it was a previous owner either. This laptop was bought by my dad as a gift, straight from an Apple store. This is my first post so forgive me for not knowing this;Reddit won't let me click to attach files to this post, dunno if I'm doing something wrong or not, I'm sure I can find a way to share these images, google drive perhaps, if requested. What the hell is going on? I'm a bit of a pussy, not gonna beat around the bush, images like these are enough to disturb me, especially since they shouldn't even exist, let alone be on my laptop. Edit: Searched up moon landing images, actually found the same picture, but online it's cut off, there's more of the actual image on the file I have. I don't know if the exact same version is online or not, probably need to dig deeper, but I do find it very odd that somehow I seem to have the original ratio but can't find it online.
