Anyone else have download issues with Mac App Store?

How useful are the apps on this Mac app bundle?

Trying to reinstall MacOS on a new hard drive and it stops at “2 minutes remaining” every time. I have tried erasing and re formatting the drive.

Music app alternatives? I've tried getting used to it but it's garbage.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 08:08 PM PST

Too many things are gone, too many things changed for the worse. I wish I could downgrade. Any suggestions? Are there good alternatives or should I try to downgrade?

EDIT: I don't care about streaming or social media services, I really just want something for managing and navigating a large library.

    Is my GPU fried?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 08:52 PM PST

    I'm having issues with my 2017 iMac 27" (i5, Radeon Pro 570).

The computer gets stuck at the Apple loading screen at about 75%. It wasn't doing it at first, but now when it gets stuck at the loading screen, half the screen turns bright pink/purple.

    Apple Loading Screen

I've tried every trick in the book to get it to boot. I've reset the NVRAM, tried repairing the disk, reinstalling OS without as well as with erasing and reformatting the drive.

It's able to boot in safe mode, although I know it turns off accelerated graphics and uses intel integrated graphics instead.

Before wiping the drive, I did pull the following logs:

     panic(cpu 1 caller 0xffffff7f84d6fc31): "virtual bool IOAccelLegacyDisplayMachine::display_mode_did_change(uint32_t): vendor driver returns false"@/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/IOAcceleratorFamily_kexts/IOAcceleratorFamily-438.2.7/Kext2/IOAccelLegacyDisplayMachine.cpp:267 Backtrace (CPU 1), Frame : Return Address 0xffffff913b4ab630 : 0xffffff8001d39a3b 0xffffff913b4ab680 : 0xffffff8001e70fe5 0xffffff913b4ab6c0 : 0xffffff8001e62a5e 0xffffff913b4ab710 : 0xffffff8001ce0a40 0xffffff913b4ab730 : 0xffffff8001d39127 0xffffff913b4ab830 : 0xffffff8001d3950b 0xffffff913b4ab880 : 0xffffff80024d17f9 0xffffff913b4ab8f0 : 0xffffff7f84d6fc31 0xffffff913b4ab900 : 0xffffff7f84d1cd0e 0xffffff913b4ab930 : 0xffffff7f84d62f73 0xffffff913b4ab970 : 0xffffff7f8425206c 0xffffff913b4abab0 : 0xffffff7f8423d0fa 0xffffff913b4abb30 : 0xffffff7f84247e47 0xffffff913b4abb50 : 0xffffff7f8424cb9f 0xffffff913b4abbd0 : 0xffffff7f86570948 0xffffff913b4abc10 : 0xffffff7f84242c88 0xffffff913b4abca0 : 0xffffff8002413afb 0xffffff913b4abd00 : 0xffffff800246e3d9 0xffffff913b4abd60 : 0xffffff8001e2065f 0xffffff913b4abdb0 : 0xffffff8001d3f8b8 0xffffff913b4abe10 : 0xffffff8001d16545 0xffffff913b4abe70 : 0xffffff8001d2cff5 0xffffff913b4abf00 : 0xffffff8001e49085 0xffffff913b4abfa0 : 0xffffff8001ce1226 Kernel Extensions in backtrace: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(568.0)[247C211E-C250-351C-BCE2-4DB9D3003E10]@0xffffff7f84233000->0xffffff7f84283fff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.9)[AA7C7A4F-9F5D-3533-9E78-177C3B6A72BF]@0xffffff7f828f4000 com.apple.iokit.IOAcceleratorFamily2(438.2.7)[72B8A0B5-E12C-3764-9187-0AC0E93416F9]@0xffffff7f84d1c000->0xffffff7f84ddefff dependency: com.apple.driver.AppleMobileFileIntegrity(1.0.5)[180FC5AB-0E47-35BC-91DF-609EBE8ED4A5]@0xffffff7f82783000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.9)[AA7C7A4F-9F5D-3533-9E78-177C3B6A72BF]@0xffffff7f828f4000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOSurface(269.6)[39DC4195-B168-3895-ACD5-E731581855F8]@0xffffff7f83a4f000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(568)[247C211E-C250-351C-BCE2-4DB9D3003E10]@0xffffff7f84233000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOReportFamily(47)[2CCA7DD3-C33F-3CA4-A213-BC83D3D997B0]@0xffffff7f82824000 com.apple.kext.AMDFramebuffer(3.0.2)[007374BB-0673-3DE2-87FF-2155336637C8]@0xffffff7f8656f000->0xffffff7f86599fff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily(1.4)[4A40B298-87E0-373E-84A9-9A2227924F8F]@0xffffff7f828e2000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.9)[AA7C7A4F-9F5D-3533-9E78-177C3B6A72BF]@0xffffff7f828f4000 dependency: com.apple.kext.AMDSupport(3.0.2)[8477710E-9A72-3367-A28B-CD90F0A51DB4]@0xffffff7f8503d000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(568)[247C211E-C250-351C-BCE2-4DB9D3003E10]@0xffffff7f84233000 BSD process name corresponding to current thread: WindowServer Mac OS version: 19B88 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 19.0.0: Thu Oct 17 16:17:15 PDT 2019;     So my WiFi isn’t working on windows 10 boot camp.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 05:20 PM PST

So my WiFi on windows 10 is very slow on Wifi network A. It is like 0.34-0.54 MB's. But on MacOS the WiFi speeds are at 184-200 MB's. Then I windows, when I connect to the other network (WiFi network B) in my home (which is pretty old) I can get the normal speed of 10 MB's on windows and Mac. I tried going into Device Manager and uninstalling the WiFi Drivers like Broadcom but the WiFi is still very slow on WiFi network A. So tried installing new drivers but that doesn't work either. Please help me out here. This is really frustrating. I have Nagles Algorithm turned off for less latency during gaming.

"Photos cannot play this video because the resource is unavailable."

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 01:17 PM PST

I'm having an extremely annoying issue with the Photos app on macOS. I'm syncing my photos using iCloud but unfortunately Photos on macOS can't display any of the pictures in high quality or load any of the videos. The previews are fine but once I click a video, I get this error:

    https://imgur.com/u58Zytu

Photos on the over hand will only display in super low-res with a exclamation point in the lower right corner:

    https://imgur.com/iIRJ6hb

    Things I've tried so far:

    - Disabling and re-enabling Photo-sync in iCloud preferences, always choosing to delete local copies of my files

    - Logging out of iCloud and back in on my Mac

    - resetting all settings of the Photos app using AppCleaner

    - repairing the Photos Library

Here's some of the weird stuff logged to Console:

    https://imgur.com/2yPMXH4

    The last log reads:

    Error while starting edit: Error Domain=PLResourceDataStoreErrorDomain Code=4 "Unable to make resource locally available: <PLInternalResource: 0x7fa558f61be0> {

Which seems like a fancy way of saying "Photos cannot play this video because the resource is unavailable."

Loading photos and videos on iOS devices works just fine and I can also drag items out of the Photos app on macOS or share them to get the full video or high-res picture. Just viewing them inside the Photos app doesn't work.

This bug is extremely weird and I'm running out of ideas here. Does anyone have any experiences with this issue?

    Help! Photos in Catalina

My father recent updated to Catalina, and is enjoying it except for a problem he is having in photos. When he tries to duplicate a photo he has in his favorite folder, or his normal, sometimes the photo wont duplicate. He duplicates them so he can then alter the original.

Please how can we fix this.

    Managing Storage

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 12:30 PM PST

So I'm clearing out space on my mac and had a question on the management tool Apple provides in macOS. When you click on Messages it brings up a list of attachments. I have messages in iCloud enabled and I'm curious if I blow away these attachments if it also deletes them out of iCloud. I believe that answer is "no" butI thought I would check if anyone knows officially.

I don't care about losing memes people send, but losing family pictures you haven't saved off yet wouldn't be fun.

[Fixed] MacOS Catalina Stuck in installer, Boot Loop | Not enough space available.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 01:46 PM PST

I made a video showing how I fixed this problem here.

I was traveling when I started updating to MacOS Catalina 10.15. My Mac Book got stuck in the middle of the update and gave an error saying I do not have enough space available. This was the exact error message:

macOS could not be installed on your computer

There is not enough free space on Macintosh HD to install

Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.

The only thing I could do was restart. The result was a boot-loop. Before proceeding continue at your own risk. I hope it will fix it for you as it did for me and some people I helped that had the same problem without losing any of your files. You will only need an external SSD or HDD and make sure there are no (important) files on your external hard drive because everything will be deleted when you format it.

    Upgrading SSD and Timemachine Backup

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 07:38 PM PST

So my wife has a mid-2013 MacBook Air and the time has come to upgrade her 256 GB SSD.

I bought a SSD with an adapter on Amazon on Black Friday along with an external SSD reader.

Should I use Time Machine to back up to the new SSD and then throw it into the MacBook Air and restore from there or should I back up to a third old hard drive, install the new blank SSD into the MacBook Air and then restore from there?

    Thank you in advance.

is there any way that I can just move those files on my air without it affecting my pros files? thanks in advance

i just got a brandnew imac 2019/ 9th generation processor

it didnt come with macos catalina installed

i was pissed about it and suprised

is it common for apple to not have their new os instaled on new devices for a bit?

im figuring that at that price they dont want to risk giving a buggy exp to people

and have them think its their computer that isnt good enough

so they play it safe and stay away from the newiest os for a few months

Looking for a simple, automatic wireless backup solution

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 08:46 AM PST

    Greetings, folks!

I'm replacing my Time Capsule AirPort Extreme (at least as a router) and am wondering about alternate backup solutions.

As far as I know, I can still setup the Time Capsule on the network to be doing backups even if I am no longer using it as my router. I suppose that is the simplest solution since I already own everything needed.

What other solutions should I consider?

    Spootlight Indexing Problem

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 10:54 AM PST

Hello, I have an iMac running macOS 10.15.1. It worked fine for many years but lately I had some problems with the new Music app (Catalina is a little bit buggy) so I decided to fully restore it and set it up as new device. Thankfully, the problems I had with Music are gone, but a new problem occurred:

I have an external HDD always connected to the iMac that's split in two partitions, one for Time Machine and another at NTFS filesystem for storage (I have Paragon NTFS for Mac installed). After the restore, the spotlight (actually the tasks mdsync, mdworker and md_stores) are constantly using both time machine and NTFS partitions of the drive for the last three days, as the iStat Menus shows.

Of course I tried restarting the computer, disabling and re-enabling spootlight indexing for the NTFS drive (as we can't disable it for the Time Machine one) but non of those things helped. The only thing that worked, was to erase the TimeMachine partition (and don't use it for time machine). After that, the usage of the two partitions was zero when idle. So aside the iStat menus that shows usage in both drives, maybe only the TimeMachine partition causes the problem. When I tried to setup TimeMachine again on the same partition, after the backup was complete the same problem presented again! In iStat Menus, both partition are in 100% usage by those three tasks. Do you have any suggestions? Of course I'm using Spotlight so an option to completely disable the spotlight indexing isn't what I want.

Photos App Unable to Tag Some Faces

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 07:39 AM PST

I have been going through my photo library correcting dates, geo-tagging, and also tagging people's faces.

Sometimes I can't tag someone's face. For instance, I've tagged my Cousin hundreds of times, and all of a sudden I, can no longer select her name. When typing in her name, all I now see is a grey entry.

I've left the computer plugged in overnight with the app closed, I've rebooted, but nothing but randomness seems to fix this.

I tried googling for this issue, and it really makes me miss when it was called iPhoto.

    Any ideas?
