If I buy a new MacBook from an Auth. Retailer, can I still buy AppleCare from Apple?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 06:20 PM PST

So I think I've found a good deal on a new MacBook from Adorama which is an Apple authorized retailer. They offer the $299 AppleCare but not the $70/year option. Can I buy the $70 from Apple after my adorama purchase?

Air M1 cursor lag problem after Monterey update

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 08:28 AM PST

Hi, I don't know if it is just me or no, but after I updated to Monterey I've been experimenting some problems with the cursor, it's like some kind of lag or skipped frames and it happens sometimes.

I'm using the built-in trackpad in the Air M1 btw.

Keyboard fingerprint on MBP 14&16 screen

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 04:38 AM PST

On the MacBook 14&16 Pro M1, have they fixed the problem where the keys get imprinted on the screen and ruin the anti-glare layer? This problem has been bothering me since 2016 on every model, including the MBA M1.

2012 Unibody Macbook Pro or 2015 Macbook Air

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 07:04 AM PST

Hello guys. So i'm trying to get my first macbook and i'm broke so my options are a 2012 macbook pro mid 2012- i5, 8 ram , 226 ssd-- And a macbook air early 2015 i5- 8 gb ram and 226gb . Most people prefer the MCP because is upgradable. I use my laptop all day , sometimes photoshop ilustrator and premiere, but nothing too crazy, most of the day its just youtube and social media.

So long 2011 MBP. Hello 2021 MBP....and a question for you all.

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 06:50 AM PST

My 2011 MBP has served me amazingly for nearly 11 years but with all of the 4k footage I edit and after effects work I do, it just couldn't keep up anymore. So yesterday I pulled the trigger on the following:

16-inch MacBook Pro - Space Gray

Apple M1 Max chip with 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine

    64GB unified memory

    4TB SSD storage

My question for anyone who has ordered recently.....Are Apple's wait times pretty solid? Mine won't be delivered until January, which is fine, but I'm holding on to hope that it will arrive earlier.

MacBook battery is DRAINING significantly fast

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 06:49 AM PST

I've had my MacBook for 2 years now. Last week, I was typing on Word and it was lagging so bad. I decided to update my computer since it had been awhile. It worked better for a couple days, but now it's lagging badly again. Not only that, but my Mac is dying SO fast. It went from 100% to 10% in thirty minutes. It says Google Chrome is what's using so much battery, but I've had chrome since I got my Mac and this has never happened.

MacBook air ram upgrade worth 400€?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 05:23 AM PST

Hello! Im currently looking at buying a new MacBook, and the air is on sale locally for 900 € which is a pretty good deal, on the other hand I would like to upgrade to 16gb for future proofing reasons (I usually keep my Macs for 7+ years). This version however is 1300€ (sometimes 1200) and I'm not sure it's worth it? Should I just go for the 8gb version? Or will I regret it in a few years?

Any docking stations that support 3 external displays?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2021 03:31 AM PST

    Hi,

I might be doing some work soon for a company whose policy it is to supply employees with MacBooks for remote working.

I have a nice 3 monitor rig set up in my home office.

Are there any docking stations / adapters on the market that have at least 3 x HDMI ports in addition to a few USBs?

Putting mac to sleep in clamshell

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 10:50 AM PST

Hey, I can only find sollutions to the opposite problem but I can not find anything on how to put the macbook to sleep when it is in clamshell mode. When I hit sleep, the external screen goes dark but as soon as I pick up the mouse to turn it off, the screen lights back up again.

Am I supposed to not touch the mouse at all or is there a more convenient way?

Apple SuperDrive not working with 2020 M1 MBA w/ 30W power brick using Anker USB-C 6-in-1 Hub

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 07:57 PM PST

Not getting enough power I believe. I read here that the superdrive won't work with an anker/(any?) hub. But with apple's lack of ports, how are you supposed to connect to external display and watch a DVD?

    1. SuperDrive works if plugged into MBA with USB-C Adapter and 30W power in other MBA port.
    2. Superdrive won't work/power when it's connected to hub (either USB-C, or USB-A with USB-C adapter) when 30W power is connected to MBA port 1 and hub is connected to port 2.
    3. Superdrive won't work/power when it's connected to MBA port, and 30W adapter plugged into power delivery port of Anker hub and then into other MBA port.

So is it impossible to have MBA connected to an external display while plugged to power supply and then have it connected to superdrive with usb-c male adapter in the other port? This is absolutely crazy.

    What are my options?

1.Is it possible to use the bigger 60W power brick and that will somehow work whether plugged into hub or machine?

    1. Is my only option getting an external DVD player that has an external power supply?

    Thanks for your input

    Recommendation for software tester

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 12:31 PM PST

Hope y'all can help me out with this, my sister got a new job as a tester that she's really excited about. She's only ever had PCs and that is her main machine for work but for her job there are apps she needs to test on the Mac so she needs to pick up a machine for this. They will reimburse her for it if she can keep it under $150, possibly $200. Is there a particular model/version that was better than the others that might fit that price point on Ebay? Similarly are there specific models to avoid? Cheers!

    Linux on M1 (or M1Pro)

    Posted: 16 Nov 2021 03:53 PM PST

    Hello,
So i'm this close of ordering the new Macbook Pro 14" but I'm not sure yet that it supports Linux (Ubuntu or Fedora) yet.
I'll need Linux for my work and if it's not possible to get Ubuntu at least working properly on it, it would be a waste of money for me.
Did anyone had a similar experience ? and how hard it would be to install a linux on it ?
    Thanks
