Posted: 12 Aug 2021 09:24 PM PDT I'm coming from https://dwm.suckless.org/ so I am very confused by the MacOS window manager. I know I can Control+{1..9} to move between Desktop workspaces, but that stops working if I full screen an Application? So how do people quickly move between a terminal and a certain browser profile? Bonus: How do remove that slow transition animation? [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Aug 2021 11:38 AM PDT I'm having issues with running dev tools that's freezing my system entirely (spinning beach balls) and I can't interact with any other application on macOS, including the menu bar. Commands like force quit don't work, and I can't interact with the terminal or activity monitor. However, performance is far better under safe mode. My system is sluggish as CPU fans are going full tilt but I can still interact with other applications and there's no constant spinning beach balls. So, I'd like to understand what exactly safe mode does in order to troubleshoot my issue. So far, I see that a security utility and VPN app do not show in the upper right hand corner, and the graphics look more basic. What else does safe mode do? How could I replicate this experience as much as possible in normal mode? [link] [comments]

Big Sur 11.5.1 keyboard language switch lagging Posted: 12 Aug 2021 05:09 PM PDT I always use "caps lock" to switch between languages when I am typing. However, I recently encountered a lot of lagging when I was trying to do that. This problem can be solved temporarily by restart the laptop but it will come back within one day. Anyone else having these problems? [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Aug 2021 11:13 AM PDT I work in live events and work with professional video equipment in my day job. We have some older machines we'd like to upgrade so I go ahead and purchase new iMacs (still intel) and they have Big Sur loaded. I attempted to connect my external displays and select 1080i as my resolution but I do not find that as an option. Even when I hold the opt key while clicking "scaled" to get access to addition resolution options, I still don't have access to 1080i. Exact same equipment connected to similarly spec'd machine but on Catalina, I have no issues and 1080i shows up just fine. Is there a know issue with Big Sur no longer offering support for 1080i? Mysterious startup item -- WHERE IS IT LAUNCHING FROM? Posted: 12 Aug 2021 07:13 AM PDT Every time I reboot my Mac (running Mojave), I am presented with a "Welcome to Dashlane!" window, and I have to close the Dashlane app. I don't want to uninstall Dashlane, but I don't want it launching every time I reboot. Like most programs, it should launch when I specifically open it. I don't know where this is launching from. So far I have checked:
So how does this keep launching? What other mechanisms does MacOs provide to start up programs like this on boot? EDIT: It IS in the dock, but keeps re-installing itself after I manually remove it from the dock... [link] [comments]
My "Recents" folder in Finder shows 0 items, don't know the cause...help? Posted: 12 Aug 2021 11:05 AM PDT On Big Sur 11.5.2. 2018 Mac mini. The "Recents" folder/view in finder almost always shows "0 items", and I think it's tied to Spotlight indexing (because I can't launch applications from Spotlight either). When I restart, my machine seems to reindex, and then the "Recents" folder is populated again. Then, after an indeterminate amount of time, seemingly triggered by nothing, Recents will again go blank. I have no idea how/why this happens, or how to fix it. It's as if something erases/corrupts the index, but that's my speculation. Troubleshooting steps I've tried:
None of those have worked. I'm at wits end. Anyone have an idea of what might be causing this? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
