New M1 macbook air. Should I shut it down at night or put it to sleep? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 04:43 PM PDT Hey! I dont know if this is a dumb question but I'm a first time macbook user and would really appreciate any feedback!! I recently bought the M1 macbook air and I was reading an article that said new macs should be shut down at night but I've also read people say that you should put macs to sleep and not shut them down unless it's necessary because it could damage the battery life and slow down the computer. So I was wondering what do you guys think would be best? Can I just leave it on sleep mode at night or do I have to shut it down every night? [link] [comments]
Resetting Macbook Pro for a Clean Slate Posted: 15 Aug 2021 04:42 PM PDT Hi all, I'm thinking of wiping my computer to start over and was wondering if this is a good idea and what I should watch out for. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015). I graduated from college (engineering) and my computer took quite the beating during that time. Now that I'm done with school, I realized I don't need most of the applications, files, etc, that I accumulated over the years. I've started deleting a lot, but was wondering if it would make more sense to simply wipe the entire system and start over. If this could cut down on the storage space taken up by "Other" that would be great bonus. I have my files backed up in iCloud drive, on an external hard drive, and a Time Machine backup on a different SSD. Is this worth the time and effort, or would I pretty much end up in the same place? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Bricked my week old MacBook Air Posted: 15 Aug 2021 12:59 PM PDT Bought a new MacBook Air. Had it in my bag. Put my water bottle in the bag and it wasn't fully closed! You know the rest! I did not get Apple care. Brought it to Apple Store, $700 to fix! Any ideas how I can recoup some of my money? [link] [comments]

Charging MacBook Air M1 to 100% Posted: 15 Aug 2021 11:42 AM PDT I've had my MacBook Air M1 since July 5th and have never enjoyed a laptop experience so much. I take care of this thing like no other device I've had. My question to you folks is, would it be safe to charge the device to 100%. I've been using al Dente since I purchased the device and have always had the battery between 20 to 80 percentage and will need the extra battery ? [link] [comments]

macbook hdmi display adapters through usb hub? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 01:31 PM PDT I have a 2020 macbook pro 13"; its currently connected up to 2 monitors using HDMI and the official apple-hdmi adapters (the ones with 1x hdmi, 1x usb-a, 1x usb-c). Is is possible for me to feed these 2 adapters through a USB-C connecting hub, so I only have to connect a single cable for display? Or is this not possible- Thanks [link] [comments]
Please explain MBA M1 model numbers Posted: 15 Aug 2021 12:59 PM PDT Can anyone explain modern macbook air model numbers? I found those models (Z1240004Q Z124001DD Z1250012R Z1270018Q) in local store in Ukraine. Same specs, but different prices. For example Z1240004Q have 100$ less price compare to Z1270018Q. Real world performance of M1 with external 4K display Posted: 15 Aug 2021 11:41 AM PDT I'm in for the upgrade and was curious how 13 M1 MBP handles a single 4K external monitor under real world usage, especially for developers. By that, I mean, 20 Chrome tabs open, Slack, playing YouTube video on full screen, compiling with memory hogs like Node, having IDE like WebStorm open on entire screen, designing in Figma, opening Photoshop, compiling Xcode, browsing Chrome while shit compiles, etc. Right now, my 13 MBP 2017 handles that really poorly, it lags when playing full screen video on external display and I can't even stretch Chrome on full screen due to lags, etc. So far, everyone says "it works great". That doesn't tell much... if only browsing Safari, sure it should work great. All the YouTubers focus on video editing. I don't edit video so don't care about that. [link] [comments]

What to do with liquid damaged MacBook Pro 2018 Posted: 15 Aug 2021 07:02 AM PDT Last year I managed to spill beer over the keyboard of my MBP. I immediately flipped it, switched it off and let it dry for about a week. It still worked fine after this happened, albeit with some sticky keys... and fast forward a year later it still works normally. I've taken it to Apple who have done a visual inspection that showed the liquid contact indicators have all been triggered. Now I am interested to know what my options are. Would it be best to sell it as it is acknowledging the liquid damage? Should I pay someone to open it up and clean it? Or perhaps would looking in to home insurance options be worth it? Please if anyone has been in a similar situation I would really appreciate your advice. [link] [comments]
Do you "regularly" need regular USB port? Posted: 15 Aug 2021 02:58 AM PDT So I was thinking if I get a MacBook, since I can use wireless keyboard and mouse, I don't need to buy a USB hub. Does NOT having regular (or more) ports an actual problem for normal users? [link] [comments]
Some of the Keys on keyboard are not working Posted: 15 Aug 2021 05:56 AM PDT I have a 15 inch MacBook Pro late 2012 model. I have swapped hard disk for SSD about 2 years back. The laptop was running reasonably well till about 2 months back. The first thing that started giving me trouble was its charger. It became erratic and wouldn't charge intermittently. I got new charger from company called artis, after going through reviews which were mixed. After replacing the charger my touch pad started behaving erratically. The cursor would travel on its own, sometimes new apps would be opened because of it. At times the windows would zoom in as if I am pinching out. At this time I got help from a local mechanic who claims that he changed the trackpad. By the way my speakers were also not functioning well for longtime, so he replaced them as well. I got the laptop back from him and now I find that P and caps lock keys are not working. I am thinking is it time for me to replace this laptop or is there a point in attempting to get this issue rectified. Any thoughts would be welcome [link] [comments] |
