Posted: 14 Aug 2021 05:30 PM PDT Hi 👋 I sold my 2014 MacBook Pro about a year ago because 128GB internal storage was no longer cutting it for my photos library. I have not replaced it as of yet as I have been provided a pc to work from home, however, I am interested in getting a new Mac. I watched every 8GB vs 16GB video on YouTube and read a bunch of posts about the subject and still cannot decide if I should go for the 8GB or 16GB model. There are many contradicting opinions on the subject. My only reason for getting 16GB would be to future proof the device and to not worry about the OS slowing down at all. I don't like buying something that expensive knowing it will be outdated soon. I want to have the option of keeping it until Apple no longer supports if I choose to. I use my computer to watch 4k content (iTunes, YouTube…), browse the web, work in Word and Excel, manage and edit my pictures and videos taken from my iPhone and DSLR. Nothing too crazy, however, I don't want my computer to lag or slow down. I would really like guidance here as even after doing hours and hours of research, I still don't know what to do. I find the price to upgrade the RAM expensive and don't want to waste money if I truly don't need it. This would also mean that I would lose even more money if the m2 is so amazing that it makes me sell this model to get it in a year or two. Opinions would be greatly appreciated. Upon logging in, Another progress bar appears and the over all progress takes approx. 2 mins to access the account. It's replacing an older Macbook pro, and I'm wondering how the old one compares to the new one. I have a hard time converting specs into a sense of what things will be like. But given the stats below, how would you expect the change to seem? Noticeable faster/ slower/ the same? I'm a web developer. This is not my work machine, but I have a couple of rails projects I maintain on the side - nothing intensive memory wise. I also do some (very) light video editing in imovie for youtube. I also play some games on steam. And beyond that it's Netflix, youtube, and google docs. If there is a big difference, would the 16GB model close that gap or would I have to get back into an MBP? Got to know MBA M1 has very efficient ram management. Extra 8gb upgrade costs about 300$ in my country. Still confused if 8gb can suffice my needs. | 2019 15” last around 3-3:30 hours on light load Posted: 14 Aug 2021 09:54 AM PDT As my title suggests, I've noticed my MacBook not making it past around 3 hours from a full charge while doing very basic browsing, YouTube for example last only around 3 hours 15minutes. This is half the time I usually got from the same tasks. Some info about my MacBook: 2019 15" i9 model, battery cycle only at 162, via coconut battery states 83.4% condition and GOOD in terms of operation. Any ideas? A "Macbook Mini". The current Macbook Air is still larger and heavier than the old 12 inch Macbook. I'd love a new line to be something like: Macbook Mini (11 or 12 inch, sub 2lb) Macbook (similar to the current Air but in colours like the renders going around). | Vertical laptop sleeve recommendations? Posted: 14 Aug 2021 01:51 PM PDT Hi all, just bought a mbp for college and I'm looking for a thin, vertically oriented sleeve that will hold the mbp upright so I can leave the sleeve open and be able to slide it out when it's in my backpack. My last computer got pretty banged up in my backpack, so I'm looking for a cheap sleeve that hopefully provides a little bit more protection, water resistance, and also can work as a mat on nasty surfaces. a front pocket to put the charger, phone etc. in would be nice but not necessary. Does anyone have any recommendations? I would like to major in animal science in college and I would like this laptop to last more than 5 years because I don't plan on upgrading in the next 5 years. Any recommendations? Comments?
