    Hey all, I recently bought a 512gb 8gb RAM MBP M1 for $950 but have the opportunity to buy a gently used MBP 16 base model for $1300.

    Should I return the M1 for this deal? I really like the battery life and performance of the M1 but the screen, slimmer bezels and improved gaming and speaker performance have me second guessing.

    I'll be starting school soon for IT, which one would you all go with?

    Any idea what this is? Looks like a coating on the glass... looks very reminiscent of orange peel on car paint. You need to look at the glass under light to see it... noticed it trying to figure out why the screen looks soft.

    When I don't use my recently bought MBA (bought about a week back) for some time, and when I pick it up (in closed form) it makes a crackling sound (a very low sound but almost similar to the magnets clicking sound when we close the lid). I'm concerned now after looking at the recent reports of M1 MBs screens cracking for no reason. Is this sound unusual?

    I have a 2015 MacBook Air with 128gb of storage---it's pretty small and I'm hitting the limit at this point.

    I don't want to get an external hardrive/disk/passport. Is an iCloud subscription service a good product for effectively increasing my laptop's storage? Is it easy to move things between local and Cloud storage?

    Intel support?

    I just bought an Intel Mac 2 days ago because my last one died and I couldn't get an M1 because I have programs from my final exams next week that don't work yet with Rosetta or M1. I was hoping that this could be a 5 year (or more if I can push it) purchase. But now I am worried that maybe it will be obsolete (in the sense that certain programs won't work) in only 2 or 3 years. I know no one can see into the future but what is your guys opinion on this? I understand that the M1 is much faster and more battery efficient than what intel puts out but I am not really concerned with power, just being able to still have a computer that can use the software I need regularly.

    Excluding the programs for my finals, all I use regularly are just pycharm, VS code, office suite and parallels. Do you guys think that in 5 years or so that those programs won't support Intel Macs anymore?

    I currently own a not-very-good Windows laptop and I have been itching to try out the Mac world for some time. I have decided to wait for a M1X model to pull the trigger for peak experience.

    But every day, when my laptop gives me even a minor trouble, I'm growing increasingly more impatient for the M1X to come out. I'm checking this subreddit eagerly multiple times a day now checking if maybe they release it earlier than spring. I CANNOT WAITT!! my work also suffers because I put up with my beater sh*tbox and trying to get by with it.

    I have never owned a Mac before and the anticipation is killing me!!!!

    Sorry just wanted to vent a little haha.

    Hi! I'm using a 2020 Macbook Pro with the basic model of Airpods. They seem to work great, but they will disconnect from my laptop whenever I'm a couple of rooms away. It never happens when I'm in the same room and using it. I think they disconnect when it goes to the lock screen.

    Is there an easy way to fix this? I'm guessing there's something in System Preferences that would fix this.

    Broken key cap - how do I repair this?

    Hi all, I just wanna know; if you break a key cap on your MacBook keyboard, will it be hundreds of dollars to fix? Is it true they have to replace the whole keyboard?

    I have a pet cockatiel and while I was working she ducked under my hand, got her beak UNDER my keyboard protector, and snapped off the right arrow key. I can't tell if it's actually broken or I am just unable to press it back in.. but I think it *is* broken. The right-hand side of the key locks into place but the left side doesn't and flaps up. I am so furious because she broke a key on my last MacBook too. I bought this one only about 3 months ago so it is a brand new laptop.

    I've honestly just been having a really bad day and this has tipped me over the edge, and I am now bawling my eyes out. How expensive is this about to be?

    edit: my computer is a MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)

    Apple Trade-in

    I just bought a M1 MacBook Air and I selected my 2016 MacBook Pro to trade in during checkout. I selected in-store pick up and have already have it picked up and currently typing this on it.

    As for the trade-in, I selected arrange courier pickup and was wondering if they'll send me a box to give it to them or do I just hand in the macBook directly to the courier when they come?

    MBP 2018 15", lags like hell, I need opinions...

    Hi,

    My 2018 15" Macbook pro is lagging like hell, like whenever I have any youtube video or a Reddit tab, or my daily work apps, Vscode, slack, etc, it lags a lot. I had contacted Apple, they remotely connected to my Macbook Pro to check some stuff, then they made me SMC reset and wipe the disk and reinstall mac from scratch, which I did but no change. I'm not talking about low-level lag, I'm talking about clicking on the chrome tab and waiting for 20 seconds to change, or typing code in VScode and waiting 15 seconds for the text to appear. They said there is no software-related issue so I scheduled a Genius Bar appointment. I don't think I did anything to harm the hardware, as everything is functional My Macbook Pro doesn't have AppleCare+, and I don't know what is waiting for me for the appointment. What are the changes this is a defective device? I bought it in April 2019, and I really don't want to pay big repair fees. Any opinions on what's waiting for me?

    8GB or 16GB for School/Parallels

    So I'd like to grab an air for my son for college. The Business School requires windows machines to run certain software they say doesn't work on Mac. I am thinking of using Parallels on an M1 air. I would love to pick up one of those student deals at Bestbuy, but there's no 16GB airs offered at any retailers.

    I would think 16 would be a minimum, so I can dedicate 8GB to the VM, and give the other 8 to MACOS. The youtube reviews I have watched all say Parallels runs like trash on 8GB macs, and I dont think only giving 4GB ram to the VM would make the VM very usable.
