Posted: 17 Aug 2021 09:59 PM PDT Hey, does anyone know if its possible to achieve two QHD screens at 144 hz with the Mac mini using a docking station like "Alogic MX2 USB-C Dual Display DP Alt. Mode Docking Station – With 65W Power Delivery" It claims to be able to do two 4k displays at 60 Hz, so i'd assume its capable at QHD 144 hz. Question remains on whether the M1 can handle it [link] [comments]
Some thoughts and questions after using M1 macbook for two month Posted: 17 Aug 2021 06:11 PM PDT Overall it's excellent product, i won't even look at any intel macs anymore. That said, there are a list of annoying things in my mind compared to old (pre USB C era) versions of mac: and appreciate your voices here. No.1 The loss of magsafe is steadily irritating. I never enjoyed plugging in any usb C cables. Yes I know there are adaptors but they never work as good as the real magsafe and in one word, very unstable and does not improve much. No.2 The issue of battery draining while connected to an external display when sleeping close lid, without power plugged in. For safety I chose not to keep it connected to power all the time, just plug in power when I need it, and I keep the video cable connected since I enjoy bigger screen when i am at home. This becomes impractical for M1 macbook air since the battery dies within one day. Not an issue for 2015 macbooks though, I remember battery drain was < 10%. help: is recent software update going to help? No.3 No easy solution without $$ to connect to two external displays. No.4 Screen size. I still found it smaller size for serious work. I can't stop my self looking for an monitor where i go. 15 inch is way better. Thoughts and comments are highly appreciated. Posted: 18 Aug 2021 12:47 AM PDT Hiya all, I'm about to start university and I want a MacBook to help with my studies. I'm doing a sports course so I imagine I'll be doing a lot of office work using word, excel, PowerPoint, etc. Currently I'm looking at either just getting the basic MacBook Pro with 8gb ram and 256 ssd. Or I could get the MacBook Air with one upgrade either the 16gb ram or 512ssd. The MacBook Air would be with 7 core gpu instead of the 8 core gpu as I believe it will not really have an affect on my performance in what tasks I'm doing as I won't be gaming at all. However, I am doing a sports course so I maybe using a motion software program that slows down videos and can highlight muscles etc. I want to future proof my device and have it for the next 5-10 years or for as long as possible and still want it to be running fast so what's the best model for that? How would each compare in speed wise as I believe the air and the pro with the m1 chip are similar? I do get the student discount so 10% which is nice. Your opinions and reviews would be much appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments]

USB-C hub always powered on [M1 Macbook Air] Posted: 17 Aug 2021 04:14 PM PDT I'm using an M1 Macbook Air, 90% of the time its connected to an external monitor. After working, I usually put the Macbook to sleep, but I've noticed the USB C Hub (Anker 5 in 1, without Power Delivery) stays powered on when the laptop is in sleep mode. Even if I disconnect the charger from the Macbook, the hub will still remain powered on and will drain the battery a bit. Is there a way to change this behavior, e.g. when the laptop is in sleep state, the hub to be powered off? [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Aug 2021 06:58 PM PDT I'm trying to erase the my mbp ssd to sell it and I see a faded partition called disk2s9. Is it ok if I deleted it? Hoping it isn't anything too important. [link] [comments]
Buying my first Macbook, any suggestions? Posted: 17 Aug 2021 06:21 PM PDT Hey all, I'm starting college here soon, and wanted to get a Macbook Air - especially since I'm going to get that student discount. I've read that cases aren't the best, and that I should get a sleeve and maybe a microfiber cloth that protects the keyboard and the screen when it's closed. If anyone has any suggestions about a case, sleeve, or cloth or any links, it would be greatly appreciated. Any tips or suggestions would also be good too. Thanks for reading! :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Aug 2021 10:01 AM PDT Hello, I recently bought a new MacBook and was successfully able to migrate all my files from the old to the new. I was planning on giving my younger sibling my old MacBook. Do you guys recommend I do a factory reset? [link] [comments]
MacBook Air M1 vs MacBook Pro M1 Posted: 17 Aug 2021 03:34 PM PDT Hey, I want to purchase a MacBook for college, and I was wondering if the MacBook Pro M1 entry-level ( 8GB 256GB) was better than a MacBook Air M1 (16 GB 256GB); is there any difference? And I am open to any suggestion abt which computer I should buy for Uni (Biomed Sciences Student) [link] [comments]
Can I upgrade to a new model that comes out later this year if I purchase a MacBook now? Posted: 17 Aug 2021 03:29 PM PDT I was waiting to purchase my first MacBook until the new models come out sometime later this year. However, I just got back from vacation and my PC has crapped out on me. I really wanted to wait but I'm a freelancer and the fall semester starts next week so I'm kind of limited on options here. What do you guys think? Is it possible to "trade in" a laptop if you will when a newer model comes out? [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 12:12 PM PDT hi i just bought the 2020 macbook pro (m1). i would get warranty if i could easily afford it but the thing is i'm only 15 working minimum wage and would rather not spend a 3 weeks salary on something i might not even use. is warranty something really important or should i just risk it? Suddenly all my avi files are broken? Posted: 17 Aug 2021 12:07 PM PDT Hi, I hope you guys can help me! Last week I found out that all avi files on my macbook (and that's quite a lot due to a dvd player that only read avi) according to VLC are broken, Quicktime won't play them either. After repairing in VLC, the video plays from the beginning but forwarding makes everything crash again. I also can't open where I ended before, really need to play everything from the beginning and don't touch anything. I can't find anyone with the same problem, neither anyone who knows a solution to this. Mojave is up to date (only Combo isn't installed, for some reason I cant); so is VLC, and this even happens to sample avi files I download from the internet so it's not something in the way I edited en saved them. Anyone any suggestions? [link] [comments]
Does this battery look swollen to you? Posted: 17 Aug 2021 04:30 AM PDT I openned up this macbook to blow the dust out. I found that the battery seems bloated when touching it. I am really not sure, since I haven't taken many of these apart so I would appreciate any advice here. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Aug 2021 11:55 AM PDT Say i connect my 2018 MBP to an external LG 4k monitor. My macbook's screen actually got damaged two years ago and i'm unable to change the brightness of the screen so it's quite low which is why i bought an external monitor. Will my external monitor also have the same low brightness as my MBP? Any help is appreciated! [link] [comments]
