Can someone tell me why there is still no Netflix app for MacOS?

What's the decision behind having a Windows 10 app, but not a MacOS app? Prime Video is also missing, I just want to download shows to my MacBook, because it's not very satisfying to watch on my 9,7 inch iPad while traveling.

    MacBook Pro M1 Storage issue...

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 07:28 PM PDT

I have had my MacBook Pro m1 256Gb for almost two months now and out of nowhere Other went from around 8-11Gbs to using 80Gbs sometimes more. When I use Large file finder in Ccleaner I am showing that

    Dyld_shared_cache_x86_64 using 24Gbs

    Dyld_shared_cache_x86_64h using 24Gbs

    Dyld_shared_cache_arm64e using 23Gbs

    aot_shared_cache using 26Gbs

    I am also using

    13Gbs for all apps total

    1.85Gbs for iOS files

    15.32Gbs for System files

im not sure what's causing the insane cache data in those files, but since those are part of MacOS I have no way of clearing them even manually. Does anyone have any solutions for this because it's absolutely ridiculous.

    Split DNS on Catalina?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 10:44 PM PDT

    Hello all,

I'm doing some network testing, so I have my iMac connected to two firewalls running two subnets. The two subnets have separate subdomains, and I'd like to have DNS work for both of them. How can I do that?

    The details:

I have my primary ethernet port (en0, "Ethernet") connected to a pfsense router serving DHCP addresses at 10.77.0.0/24. Its subdomain is (redacted): int.example1.com, and the DNS 10.77.0.1, as listed in the network control panel.

My secondary ethernet port (en5, "Display Ethernet") is connected to a pfsense router I'm testing, serving DHCP addresses at 10.43.0.0/24. Its subdomain is (redacted) int-abc.example2.com, and DNS is 10.43.0.1. The network control panel got this subdomain correctly from DHCP as well.

What I want is to be able to dig foo.int-abc.example2.com and have it query the proper DNS server at 10.43.0.1. However, it goes to 10.77.0.1 instead, so DNS basically doesn't work for my test network.

"scutil --dns" shows me (again redacted because I'm paranoid):

    DNS configuration (for scoped queries)

    resolver #1

    search domain[0] : int.example1.com

    nameserver[0] : 10.77.0.1

    if_index : 4 (en0)

flags : Scoped, Request A records

    reach : 0x00020002 (Reachable,Directly Reachable Address)

    resolver #2

    search domain[0] : int-abc.example2.xyz

    nameserver[0] : 10.43.0.1

    if_index : 5 (en5)

flags : Scoped, Request A records

    reach : 0x00020002 (Reachable,Directly Reachable Address)

    The Mac ignores this.

Setting "networksetup -setdnsservers "Display Ethernet" 10.43.0.1" didn't do anything.

Neither did "networksetup -setsearchdomains 'Display Ethernet' int-dmo.mgco.xyz".

Anyone have any ideas? It's a relatively minor annoyance, but I'd appreciate knowing how to deal with it.

Should I upgrade my 2015 13 inch MBP to Big Sur? Currently running Catalina

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 10:08 PM PDT

So my 2015 13 inch retina MBP is starting to run out of storage. I took it into an Apple store for a Genius Bar appointment and they recommended that I delete my photos album database (all my photos are stored in iCloud) and then install Big Sur and then re-download all my iCloud photos.

    Thoughts?

Scrolling in some apps is significantly worse than in others (M1 MBA)

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 08:38 PM PDT

Although I noticed some choppiness in Safari, Music, etc while using my MacBook, the disparity between these apps and others becomes far more noticeable when I connect a 144 Hz 1080p monitor. Apps like News, Messages, Mail and system animations are completely perfect at 144Hz and never drop frames, while web browsers in particular are really poor and seem to be capped at 60 Hz or worse.

There are minor improvements when using Firefox or Chrome compared to Safari, but none of these are really what I'd call smooth at any resolution or frame rate. The Music app is uniquely terrible at scrolling but that one seems to always be problematic.

What could be causing the difference in behavior between these apps?

Is there a shortcut key to 'refresh' the external display outputs when my MacBook Pro's external monitor doesn't wake up after sleep?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 07:59 PM PDT

I got a 2015 MBP and I have it in 'clamshell mode' hooked up to an LG external display via HDMI cable, but for some reason when it wakes up from sleep (or even just the display having gone to sleep) the monitor never wakes up and I have to turn it off/on again, or re-sleep and resume the laptop, or some other combination of random mouse/keyboard clicking to get it to spring to life again.

The MacBook is definitely 'awake' because I can hear audio/lights on my USB mouse etc, and so I'm wondering if there's any shortcut key combination that MacOS will 'refresh' its external displays that might help my monitor to pick it up again without me having to jump through a bunch of hoops?

M1 Macbook Air drained to 0% when left connected to external monitor

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 07:49 PM PDT

The night before it had 22%. I closed my macbook, left the USB C to HDMI cable plugged in, and turned off the power supply to the monitor. Woke up to a fully drained macbook. Is this supposed to happen?

Do you use Apple first party apps or do you prefer cross-platform third party apps?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 12:58 AM PDT

    Hey guys!

I wanted to know whether you guys prefer using most of Apple's default apps such as mail, notes, reminders, iCloud and Apple Music or if you prefer using cross-platform apps like Spotify, Gmail, Evernote or OneDrive.

It would be great to know why you use one or the other as I myself use Apple apps but can't help but feel that they are mostly inferior services relying on a slow and laggy iCloud to sync everything across. Thinking of switching to third party apps and keeping myself less tied into the ecosystem.

    What are your thoughts?

Windows 11 will now finally remember the location of app windows and put them back automatically when you dock up to an external monitor.

MacBook Pro Mid 2012 cant even handle chrome anymore, am I doing something wrong?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 05:46 AM PDT

I have just completed a fresh install, wiping the SSD completely in hopes to give me a performance boost. Before the wipe, I was running Logic Pro, Photoshop and other programs without trouble. Now, I'm struggling to write this without the spinning wheel popping up every other sentence.

I am used to looking at Windows Task Manager so I can't completely understand what's going wrong when having a look at my Activity Monitor. Could someone lend an eye and let me know if something is out of the blue or if I'm missing something here?

I understand my laptops dated now but I simply can't afford to upgrade and would love to be able to continue writing my apps. I was able to a few months back no problem so there must be something other than my laptop just being bad at play here.

Don’t think I’m tripping but Big Sur’s Touch Bar volume icon is a bit weird. It’s smaller than it’s supposed to be and the outline for the different volume levels aren’t shown unless you’re at that level or higher.

    Has spell check gone crazy?

Ever since I installed Big Sur, I've noticed some really questionable decisions by spell check - anyone else seeing this? I'm currently on 11.4.

Here's an example, wherein Big Sur is suggesting that I replace the word "questions" with "quesgions" for some reason. Thoughts?

Help me identify a functionality I had on my old macbook please!

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 09:38 AM PDT

Hello, I recently got a new macbook for work and sent back my old one. On my old one, I could hold the option+command key and it would zoom a small rectangular area where my mouse is which I could zoom in and out via scroll. It was really good for pixel peeping as I'm a front end web dev. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? While macOS (currently on catalina) has accessibility zooms, it wasn't the quick small rectangular square that followed my mouse. Could it have been a third party app? Please help!!

Let's share our best tips to keep our Macs running as new!

    Posted: 24 Jun 2021 02:15 AM PDT

    Hi!

I ran across a post yesterday showing a Mac as new and I thought that would be great to share our best tips on how to keep our Macs running the longer they can!

    I currently own 3 Macs:

    > MacBook Pro 13" Retina Late 2013 (my wife's, need to clean it up, hard drive is almost full and running quite slow)

    > MacBook 12" 2017 i5 (mine using it while traveling or out of home, a bit slow, did a great job at installing Monterey lol, if anyone has tips to improve it, I'd really appreciate!)

    > iMac 27" 5K 2017 (just increased it to 16Gb RAM, it's better but the FusionDrive drives me crazy when I hear the hard drive running, I forgot what it was like to hear it running all the time!)

I'll go first, IMO, best is to use Brave than Chrome (even Brave runs faster than Safari).
