Apple doesn’t replace products they damaged (cosmetically) during repair. Posted: 23 Jun 2021 12:02 PM PDT I dropped off my laptop for repair last Friday in store, because it had a "service recommended" notification for the battery. I bought the laptop 9 months ago, so I was still on the original warranty. It was definitely a bit concerning that I received that notification, since the cycle count was only 240. Nevertheless, I dropped it off, it got serviced, and it arrived back today in the mail (5 days after I dropped it off). I found a small, deep indent on the top of the laptop, and contacted them immediately. Packaging was not damaged at all. After the usual explanation to 2 different people over chat, and another over the phone, I got transferred to a Senior Advisor. She communicated with the Customer Relations department, and they said that relatively minor cosmetic damage is not enough to warrant a product replacement. Instead, she offered $100 in credit towards Mac Accessories. I tried to get a warranty extension, but she said it wouldn't be possible. I got her to come up to $200 in credit, and then it was settled. Ultimately, I'm disappointed, but since I expect the damage to not affect the performance / internal components, I was fine with it. I wanted to share my experience for anyone who might receive a damaged product in the future, and to give you an idea of what to expect from Apple. If your product is damaged, always get something out of it! If it's cosmetic damage, don't necessarily expect a new product. Demand some store credit at the very least. And lastly, ALWAYS record a video of the condition of your device BEFORE you ship it to repair, just in case. Description of cosmetic issue found in comments: "It's the width of my pinky fingernail and it's deep enough that if I slide across it with my nail facing down (as if I'm scratching it), it wedges in there and gets stuck. Kinda deep." EDIT: Added some more details regarding the drop-off, delivery, and damage. [link] [comments] | ||
