| Tip : how to save on icloud storage using free, open source software Posted: 10 Apr 2021 06:41 AM PDT I discovered that there is a free, open source software that allow you to download all your icloud photos, live photos and movies onto your computer (windows/mac/linux) or on a NAS (docker) in one shot. This is on https://github.com/icloud-photos-downloader/icloud_photos_downloader This is a good thing because: - icloud is a sync tool, not a backup, so this software allows you to do a proper backup. - you can delete then your photos from icloud, to save on storage and avoid having to puchase a larger subscription (my case, I used docker on synology). - you can also send the photos somewhere else in a different cloud afterwards if you want so (dropbox, google photos, backblaze etc.) [link] [comments]  | ||

| why doesn’t portrait orientation mode work on both sides Posted: 10 Apr 2021 01:43 AM PDT i like to lock the orientation mode by default but when im watching youtube i move to full screen by pressing icon in youtube app, but ios only allows the full screen view from left side but when i turn phone other way the orientation doesn't change as it is locked. i have to unlock to view full screen mode from right side. its very tedious job. my old android 6 was working both way. i wish ios does give attention to this type of small changes, and other one being its keyboard. | Is there a way to change the behavior of touching a missed call notification? Posted: 09 Apr 2021 07:59 AM PDT I get a lot of spam calls, and out of habit, I touch the missed call notification from my notification screen expecting to see more info, but instead it calls the number. I'm afraid I've made my problems worse by now calling these numbers back. I use iOS and Android daily, and on Android touching a missed call notification opens up the phone app to show the time, number of times they called, etc. Jumping between both phones leads me to make this mistake often. But it seems it shouldn't be so easy to call someone back through a single touch. I can't find anything in the settings to change this. Am I missing something? Edit: I'm convinced there's no way of changing the settings. Also, I'm aware of swiping behaviors. I've submitted this as a feature request to Apple so that tapping a missed call notification opens the phone app (or has this an an option in settings) rather than call the number back. | unable to change apple id security questions Posted: 10 Apr 2021 07:31 AM PDT I've tried most of the methods online, supposedly on your iphone at the password and security page there should be a "change security question" option below the "change password" option but threre is only a "change password" option no "change security question" option. Supposedly on apple website when you enter your apple id and password they will ask for your security questions and password and you should be able to reset the questions there. In my case after entering the apple id the page asks me for my phone number and after i enter that it asks me to verify the phone number then jumps to the settings page the "change password" page and immediately asks me to change apple id password no reset security questions. | Photos constantly vanishing and restoring, pink screen glitches Posted: 10 Apr 2021 12:53 AM PDT I have an iPhone Xs with 512gb of space, 120gb of which are actually being used. For some reason lately my apps have been crashing/freezing, my phone will randomly restart and get stuck on the Apple screen, causing me to volume up down hold power to force restart. Every single one of my 10,000 photos will vanish and then restore which causes massive crashing and performance issues in my other apps as well as make my phone really hot. The biggest issue is once they're all done restoring, they vanish again and start all over! I've turned off iCloud, backups and kept it on airplane mode but it seems like the photos are restoring from my phone's memory vs. iCloud. As of recently I have had 2 episodes where the screen flashed pink glitchy pixels and completely bugged out. This issue is causing me a lot of stress and i'm wondering if anyone has had similar issues... [link] [comments]  | ||

| Is anyone else’s mail app just...terrible? Posted: 09 Apr 2021 07:55 PM PDT Don't know if this is the sub for this, but I've searched high and low on google to see if anyone else has this issue and it seems like literally nobody else does. The mail app that comes on every iPhone has been absolute trash for me, and I have no idea why. It started happening maybe a year and a half ago? 2 years ago? I have a couple of gmail accounts connected to it. That's it. Specifically, if I get a little red "1" notification telling me I have mail, I'll go to the app, read it/mark it as read, and leave the app. The app STILL shows the red "1" notification. I'll go back in- no unread emails. I'll try to refresh the app by swiping down- still no unread emails. It'll be stuck on "Checking for mail..." for a solid 2 minutes at minimum, until it eventually says "Updated just now" and finally the red notification number will disappear. If I don't go through the process of keeping the app open for multiple minutes while it checks for mail that isn't even there, the red notification on the app itself will stay there forever despite all of my emails being marked as read. Similarly, and this could just be some fancy way junk mail works now, but 90% of the junk mail that makes it into my inbox won't let me move it into the junk mail folder. I'll select it, hit "Move", and will be able to move it into the trash/multiple other folders- but the junk mail folder will be grayed out. Is it just me? It's been ages, so I've tried it all (deleting/reinstalling, deleting all of my emails from all folders, disconnecting and reconnecting email accounts, always keeping my phone updated...I even got a new phone when my old one died on me, and it still happens on this one.) I tried a full encrypted backup and restore. Same thing. It seems that just like how some apps wouldn't allow certain data to be backed up, widgets fall into that same category? I've turned on iCloud photo sync, due to the fact that the last MacOS (Catalina) never actually allowed me to sync manually, so felt forced. I value my photo library pretty highly, due to lost family members, my kids, etc. Do you trust the cloud sync entirely (assuming you keep originals on each device you sync to)? Do you still manually manage your sync? Just curious what the Apple community favors and why. [link] [comments]  | ||
