I have been using a 2011 Silver MacBook Pro, and it's time to switch it out. I love the Space Grey colour, but am hesitant to purchase it after reading about discolouration where the palm rests or where a case wasn't covering it, though most of these posts seem to be from 2016/17. I'm wondering if anybody has more recent experience with these problems? Or is this something that seems to have been improved in recent years? | Buying a Macbook for the first time Posted: 22 Feb 2021 07:23 AM PST I'm looking to buy a Macbook and think I will go with the Macbook Air with M1 chip. But I'm stuck in deciding on what to buy in terms of RAM, SSD and the GPU. I'll be mainly using the Macbook for university stuff (so would need to use Microsoft Office) and music production with Garageband (and maybe Logic Pro eventually). I might do some light video editing in the future too, but nothing heavier than that. I've read that 8GB RAM works fine for most people so I don't know if I should upgrade it to 16GB or not. And for storage, would 256GB be enough or should I go for 512GB with the additional 8-core GPU? I feel like storage shouldn't be a big issue since I could buy an external hard drive if needed later. Currently I have a 4GB RAM laptop and use less than 200GB SSD (although I don't use this laptop much for music prod). I'd like to save as much money as possible since the base model is already quite expensive for me, but I want to get the right laptop. Also, would Macbook Air be good enough or should I try to get the Pro? Thank you for any advice :) [link] [comments]  | ||

| Delamination issue on Retina MacBook Pro 2015 �� Posted: 22 Feb 2021 10:11 PM PST Hi guys, recently I bought very good shaped MacBook Pro 13 2015. Mac is in perfect condition, no scratches or something, looks brand new, also no repairs what so ever. Only battery has about 750 cycles of charging, however during work on internet and office it worked about 6 hours. Screen also looks perfect. However I heard lot of news about delimitation of anti-glare coating and know that when it happens the only solution is to replace whole screen. My question is: Can it happen in the future when almost 5 years MacBook has no signs of delamination yet? Should I be worried? I bought it fairly cheap and now I'm in dead end. Should I sell it now when it looks brand new and add exrta money to buy 2016 / 2017 model? What are your experiences with this issue? [link] [comments]  | ||

I have 5g internet and 27mbs upload speed. I plan on using a 1080 30fps capture card with my Nintendo Switch. I have the necessary adapters and what not, but am just concerned on whether my mac can handle it, or if my internet is fast enough. If I can stream, could it handle a handcam as well? | Experience purchasing new M1 MacBook Air and trade-in with Phobio Posted: 22 Feb 2021 09:10 AM PST Hey everyone, I wanted to provide my experience purchasing a new M1 Macbook Air 16GB model. I placed an order for an 8-core cpu/7-core GPU/16GB/256GB on Jan 20 and received it on Feb 9. Phobio shipped out the trade-in box a few days before. Once I received the box, I placed everything in the box, took pictures of everything just in case Phobio claims it's "broken" based on the horror stories I've read. My only complaint is that the airbag sleeve you place the Macbook can be a bit loose, so I decided to tape it a bit, so it doesn't shuffle. I shipped it out on the 9th, and they received it on the 12th; they inspected it for about a week and got confirmation of the 600 dollar trade-in for my 2019 base model on the 20th. I know my experience may not be the same as some of you, but it was honestly painless for me. | Posted: 22 Feb 2021 07:25 PM PST Hi guys, I just purchased the MBA M1. Can someone help me with some numpad configuration? When I plugged in the numpad into the laptop, I was asked which keyboard it is - Japanese, ISO, etc. I was looking it up online and I must have pressed something because I lost that screen. My numpad works when the num lock is turned off - it can move left, right, etc with the arrow keys but there are some problems. The = key becomes 65. When I type numbers, I need to hold down the keys for a few seconds before it produces a sound then a number. I have checked the keyboard settings for accessibility and slow keys and slow keys is not enabled. Anyone know how I can go back and change the keyboard settings to ISO (I think ISO is the correct keyboard setting, it is a Filco Majestouch TenKeyPad 2 Professional. EDIT: ok so I did some more google searching and apparently the Filco numpads don't work with MACs. Does anyone have a recommendation on a 10 key numpad I can replace my Filco with? Something mac issue with the num lock EDIT2: I was able to download Karabiner to remap some keys but I am stuck at 5, which is in the middle of the numberpad and I don't see what function I can map it from - anyone know what function it is? About a month ago my girlfriend purchased for me a new 13" MBP, it is Space Gray with 2 Thunderbolt ports and I am just trying to figure out which chip it has. Because it has 2 thunderbolt ports I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, it had the M1 chip. Today, I decided to double check and google told me to look at "About this Mac" under the Apple tab. Beside "processor" in the tab, it says 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel i5, and beside "Graphics" it says Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645 1536MB. Does this mean I don't have the M1? There is light radiating from the screen, which lets me know it's on. So it isn't black as if the screen is off, but black as if the screen is displaying all black. Any idea what might be wrong? There is an app simply called "haptic touch bar" (it is paid but you can have a free trial) that turns this feature on. Using the touch bar feels like using the trackpad now! I have no idea why Apple would have this feature in their touch bar but not let us access it natively? It blew my mind! The click sound is a little loud, but it's really cool! [link] [comments]  | ||

The only solution is to shutdown my whole mac and turn it on again. I've already tried re formating my hard drive which didn't help, also reseting the NVRAM and reseting the SMC and non of these work. This issue frustratse me a lot! Any solution? | Posted: 22 Feb 2021 07:53 AM PST I was never a "gold" guy, never liked jewelry made out of gold, never really cared for the element or color/paint resembling it. I had a gold variant of iPhone 6 or 6s I think, purely because it was on sale and I think 100 EUR cheaper than other versions. I kinda liked it back then, would have loved it if the front panel was black, not white. But that was my first "gold" experience with Apple product. It was a nice, rather subtle than in-your-face gold paintjob. I developed a bit of a addiction to collecting wrist watches some years ago and this is when I realized I prefer watches with a bit of gold accent, rose gold especially. At the same time, I picked up a 12" Macbook, some time around 2017. I don't like aluminum painted laptops, prefer pure black, or white, maybe some shade of dark blue, so I picked up space grey. Absolutely hated it. To me, it looked like aluminum macbook that was abandoned somewhere and got all dusty and nasty. I think I hated that color even more than the horrible butterfly keyboard. Sold it after 3 months. Now almost 4 years later, a chance to finally get a fanless laptop, but with decent power and battery life. MBA m1 was (and is) a dream-come-true. Picked the gold. Don't like aluminum, hate the space grey, and now I actually like gold color accents, so it was an easy choice. And I liked it a lot in all the youtube videos I watched it. When mine arrived, out of the box, first glance, I was immediately disappointed. This is supposed to be gold? It is copper. Nothing else. No resemblance of gold. It is pure copper. Or a sheet of metal left out in the rain to rust. It is not gold, it is not rose gold, it is..not gold. I hate the color so muhc. I hate how out of the 3 choices, the colors of touchpad vs the body is 3 tones away. I am not a fan of skins and stickers on laptop, but this will be the first one I will have to do something like that. It is a tool I have to use for hours every day, and I find myself distracted by the unpleasant copper paintjob several times a day. [link] [comments]  | ||
