I just lost a very important essay through Word on my iPad

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 03:21 PM PST

So i've been working on my final essay in university with Word on my iPad Pro for about an month now, and i have had Auto-save on the whole time, and every time i close the app and open it again it works without a problem.

Just tonight i finished it and being happy with it being over i open another word file on my ipad, and when i reopen my essay it's gone back to the state it was in on the 16th of february.

I made some really important edits from the 16th to today and i'm really hoping that you can help me recover it.

The file is stored in the Files app in my iPad, and the auto-save feature saves the changes to my iPad.

I tried searching on Onedrive without success, and there does not seem to be any other version of the file available.

Do you have any ideas of how i would be able to recover the former (newer) version of the file?

Why does iTunes utilize the iTunes Library File (.itl) instead of pulling dynamically from the iTunes Media folder location?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 07:51 PM PST

tl;dr: why does iTunes pull the music library from the "iTunes Library.itl" file instead of dynamically from the $\iTunes\Music\ directory? Is there a way to manually create a new iTunes Library file as a backup?

I recently built a new computer which entailed cloning my old SSD to a new NVMe SSD. This drive included my iTunes library. Upon booting the new system and launching iTunes, I was greeted with the well-known error: "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." It was corrupted. Documented here.

Thankfully, this is a well-documented problem and I was able to grab a previous iTunes Library file to restore most of my library. The bad news being that the most recent one I had was from late 2018 so I still lost everything I had uploaded since then. I then had to manually re-add 30+ albums by importing them from my $\iTunes\Music\ directory which was still very much intact.

My question is: why does iTunes use this file instead of dynamically pulling from my iTunes Music Library? I maintain my valued music library religiously. I collect CDs and RIP each one to iTunes as I acquire them. In the event of a crash, I obviously don't want to have to RIP several hundred CDs all over again so I keep live back-ups of my iTunes Library. Come to find out, that doesn't matter because iTunes doesn't actually pull from that location, dynamically - but rather from this "iTunes Library.itl" file. Furthermore, is there a way to manually create a new instance of this File to keep as a back-up in the event that this happens again? Does this .itl file work in conjunction with the completed music directory or would it work on it's own with a completely empty directory?

Someone changed everything to my Apple ID?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 09:22 PM PST

So yesterday and today I've got 4 emails saying that dear (name) we noticed someone changed things to your account. The email looks legit and they changed the ID, Password, Security questions and other things. I have no clue where that Apple ID is hooked up to other than my really old iPod that I had back in what 2012? I don't think there is nothing of value on it so I think I should be okay right? I don't think I even have access to that account anymore and the asswipe changed the Apple ID, Email Address, Password and security questions. This has nothing to do with my current account as I'm using a totally different account for my last iPhones and iPads. This is some old account that I forgot I even had. Is there a way I can stop the fucker that got into the account or is the sad lonely fuck going to be listening to my music playlists from 2012 in his cum dungeon?

How to connect base 2020 Mac mini to dual 4K monitors?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 09:02 PM PST

Just got a base model 2020 Mac Mini and I already have two 4K monitors. There's some kinda confusing information on the tech specs part of the Mac mini, but I am just looking to get the Mac to run at 4K through both monitors. So I need to get two usb c to hdmi cables? Do they have to be thunderbolt or can they just be regular usb c? Is there any other way to get them both to run at 4K?

I’ve been stuck on this screen for almost 2 hours waiting for ios 14.4. It’s a new iphone SE 256gb. How long should this take? I’m still waiting for data transfer that hasn’t started yet, it also won’t let me tap “install now” so the new iphone is stuck on this screen.

Windows running through bootcamp ruined my Mac

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 07:52 PM PST

Hello, recently I've been having big problems with Windows 10 running from bootcamp. Basically, I've been running windows 10 in bootcamp for about 2 months with everything working fine. Last week a power I got a power outage and my Mac turned off while I was in windows. Now when I turn the Mac off and turn it back on into windows it says my pc has run into problems and makes me reinstall windows. When I boot back into macOS the same thing happens when I turn my Mac off and on again. I've tried getting rid of the windows 10 partition and yet while in macOS if I restart my Mac it will somehow create another windows 10 partition and give me the "blue screen of death". I've researched this issue and I've found no one with the same problem. If you need any more information about it feel free to comment. Any help would be nice!

Is there a way to use my iPhone as a video recorder and record directly to a PC without storing video on iPhone?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 01:13 PM PST

I was wondering if there was a way I can use my iPhone as a video recorder, but buy some sort of cable to hook up to my non-MAC laptop and have it record directly to the laptop? The key is to not store the footage on the iPhone because there won't be enough room to shoot what I want in HD. The laptop has enough terabytes to store the footage so I can use my video editing software to make edits. The thing is, I don't want to pop down $1100 on an iPhone 12 Pro Max 256GB just yet. I thought there might be some sort of converter(?) cable that could work. Thank you in advance!

Big Sur might've broken my ability to drag and drop Music playlists and Photos albums.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 05:46 PM PST

Just when I started investing time in the organization of my iTunes and Photos content, I updated to Big Sur on my Macbook Pro 2017. Since then, I can no longer drag playlists into playlist folders on the Mac (luckily, I can on my iPad), and, more critically, I can no longer drag albums to album folders in Photos. Wahhhh. I looked at my SysPrefs for the trackpad, but found nothing useful. Anytime I try to drag an album, it doesn't pick it up and instead just highlights albums as I move my cursor up and down.

    Any ideas?

    Selling iPad question

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 08:33 PM PST

I'm selling an iPad tomorrow in really good condition with the box etc. I have the original receipt with my address and the device details. I'm inclined to give the receipt to the buyer so if he loses the password etc he can get Apple to reset the machine.

I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad idea. Any comments why or why not?

Macbook Pro will no longer charge or connect via thunderbolt interfaces. Is effectively dead.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 08:33 PM PST

    Hey all.

So my 2019 Macbook Pro bit the dust today in a pretty literal way. I work from home between my desk with a thunderbolt Dell ultrawide display, and the sofa. I spent a couple of hours on the sofa today as is pretty normal for any given day.

I returned to my desk and plugged in the USB-C. Nothing. I opened the Macbook and it rebooted. This has happened isolated times before, but this was different: when the login screen came up, it was no longer on the display, and worse still, was not charging.

I managed to briefly resurrect the display on another port. However as it currently stands after several hours, the back-right port will not do anything, even provide basic voltage to a USB hub, and the other three will do that, but no more.

I contacted Apple support and they had me reset the SMC and the PRAM. Symtoms persist. I've since opened the back of the case to look for anything obvious, electrical soot stains and the like, but to no avail. Apart from dust, it looks brand new.

I've since bought an M1 Air, and I'm enjoying it, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss my old one. I've had a lot of good times with it and 2 years seems so short for a Macbook's life, I was hoping to get at least as many as my previous one (about seven, purchased in 2012).

Any advice would be appreciated. Most sources so far are saying it's likely the logic board and I hope they're wrong, since that's basically my new Macbook plus several hundred in repairs to solve.

    Thanks.

iPhone 7 wont connect to iTunes

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 07:46 PM PST

For some reason my phone wont connect to my iTunes. It connects to my laptop and charges, but it won't connect to iTunes. I have tried two different cables and I bought another on Amazon. I feel like uninstalling iTunes but it might be too much trouble. 100s of songs, which isnt a lot I know, but I have to download album covers and input them on many songs.

    Need clarification on Safari passwords

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 09:58 AM PST

Just tried to log into my gmail account via Safari auto filled password and it kept on failing. I checked the password on my iPhone via settings>passwords and it says "password last modified two days ago". What does "modified"mean exactly? I didn't change my password In the last two days and I don't think I was hacked because I reset my password and no suspicious devices were shown to have signed in to my google account. Upon looking through all my saved passwords there are a few others that also have this message that says they were modified recently when I did not change them. Can someone explain what is going on? This has me a good bit worried.

PLEASE!! iMessage won’t activate and I can’t text sms/mms group chats

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 07:40 PM PST

•iMessage won't activate and displays message "activation unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again" every time I try to activate it

•The "send and receive" option in iMessage shows my phone number, but when I click on it it just loads for a bit then stops, so my iMessage only works through my iCloud address (TLDR: all of my conversations use my iCloud and won't use my number)

•I can text individual sms/mms numbers, but not sms/mms group chats, sms/mms group chats don't even show up

    •iMessage group chats work fine

HOW DO I GET MY IMESSAGE TO ACTIVATE?

HOW CAN I GET MY SMS/MMS GROUP CHATS TO WORK?

    Question about photo storage

    Posted: 22 Feb 2021 06:59 PM PST

I am looking for a way to definitively put photos from all my devices and someone else's into iCloud storage (photos of kids and grandkids). My question is this- If I upload them directly on iCloud.com will they always remain? My worry is that although our devices are synced once we get rid of a device we aren't replacing, in this case an iMac, the photos will be gone from iCloud because we will factory reset and never sign in again. I'm thinking this because photos on the photos app vary be device so they each contribute differently to iCloud. Can someone help me or message me about this? Thank you so much.

    Edit: Resolved
