I have a backup of my mac on my external HD which is from an older version of macOS than the one I have on my Mac. And I can’t restore because of that fact. Is there anyway to solve that without downgrading?

URGENT | Help needed with Catalina update

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 11:15 PM PDT

Hello guys! I am trying to update to MacOs Catalina [from 10.14.6] and its a huge 8.5 GB Update. Mac Model : MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) - 8GB RAM variant.

Unfortunately, I am not on a strong internet and when I tried to get it done right now, it stopped after 7.5GB and gave a network error.

Post which, I was forced to download the update again and it started from 500MB.

Q-1 : Any way I can make sure it saves the downloaded part incase there are network issues? I wish it had saved those 7.5GB downloaded in the last attempt, so downloading it further would have been easy.

Q-2 : Any tips to get this done while assuming my network might do down for few minutes after certain GBs gets downloaded.

    Thanks in advance.

Battery ran out, can’t reformat SSD in disk utility

Battery ran out, can't reformat OWC SSD disk

Hi. I've installed a new OWC Aura N SSD in my MacBook Pro 13'' Early 2015 running on macos Catalina. I was installing macos after formatting the disk, and everything was going quite well. I happened to plug out the charger earlier that night, and the computer ran out of power during the installation process.

Now when I boot in internet recovery mode and enter disk utility, the SSD does not show up. I am led to believe that the disk is broken, but I hope that isn't the case. Any good fellas that know a solution?

Is there anyway to force use internal microphone with apple headphones connected

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 08:22 PM PDT

My old pair of headphones recently stopped working so I switched over to a pair of apple headphones. The problem with this is that mac os automatically switches my default audio input source from my macs internal audio to the external microphone on the headphone. Normally this would be fine but for some reason whenever my external microphone is enabled, my mac also takes my system audio and transmits it through along with my voice. This issue only happens when an external mic is enabled (ive tried a different set of headphones also with an external mic the problem persisted). I was wondering if there is anyway to either stop the system audio from being transmitted or to use my internal mic even when my headphones are plugged in. (currently running Mojave)

Issue finding Tagged items in external SSD

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 08:00 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I just started using the latest MBP 16', and struggled to find tagged items in my WD My Passport external SSD.

I had no problem seeing tagged items in Macintosh HD, but not the External SSD.

    Any idea why?

Issues with audio using Quicktime screen recording

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 05:07 PM PDT

I've been having issues with distorted audio from screen recording using Quicktime. It seems completely random. I'll do a test and the sound will be fine, but then when I get back to check, the next recording is bungled. I found this archived post (the sound on my files is the exact same posted by OP) where it seems to be an issue for a couple other people with no solution in sight. Google hasn't helped either.

Is anyone still facing this issue and/or managed to find a solution?

Adjust autoswitch between light and dark mode

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:21 AM PDT

    Hello everyone!

I use the automatic switch between light and dark mode on Catalina, but now in Italy the sunset is at 5:00PM, so the dark mode kicks in when I'm still at work.

I just wonder if somebody know a nice piece of software that switch light and dark mode based on screen brightness instead of the integrated routine with rise/sunset of the sun.

    restore macpro 3,1

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 07:28 AM PDT

    He folks,

Got a MacPro 3,1 sat here (I know some of you would say, its outdated, its a space heater, etc) and would like to restore it to its former glory, according to apple.com I need to download Sierra onto another mac and create install media, which sounds easy when you have multiple macs.

Does anyone know of a way round the "downloading onto another mac and creating install media" step?.

Hello, does anyone know how to fix this sh*t? I tried cleaning history, deleting files from ~/Library/Safari, rebooting. But I still keep getting this damn message in the middle of my work! And if I'm not fast enough to close browser correctly it just close on it's own and lose all of my progress.

I keep getting this message 1-3 times every day. I'm using two windows with total of 10-20 tabs. Nothing too heavy on unusual, just doing my daily stuff like I did a year or two ago, but without this nuisance. Two extensions I use is AdGuard Assistant and Xdebug Helper, which I used years before this shit started.

Whatever happened to "Secure Empty Trash" (Catalina)?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:39 AM PDT

This iMore article, (from 2015) says that any Mac user can empty the trash securely by hitting COMMAND key while holding down click on the trash icon. Just proof that you used to be able to do it. This no longer exists for me as I'm running Catalina 10.15.7. I'm surprised it was removed--but why? Does APFS securely delete files now?
