    2020 MacBook Air i5 16GB

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 06:33 PM PDT

Just ordered a new MacBook Air and upgraded to i5 and 16GB to get me through my master's program. Now I am seeing all the comments and reviews about the MacBook Air having thermal issues. I am a Chrome user with 10-15 tabs open at a time while also being on Zoom often and I was wondering if this usage would cause heat and thermal issues that have been talked about even with 16GB RAM. Thanks.

What’s this “safari” screen when I enter mission control? I’m not watching anything in full screen but I do have a safari tab open. When I press on this blank safari tab I can’t press on anything until I go back to mission control and press something else. Does anyone know where this comes from?

    2.6GHz 6-core 9th-generation Intel Core i7 VS. 2.3GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i7

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 12:11 PM PDT

    Hi everyone!

Firstly I'm not the best with this type of stuff so please be kind lol

Can somebody please help me with the difference between these two processors? I read online that 9th gen and 10th gen Intel processors have noticeable performance difference.

I'm a graphic design who runs Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, etc. sometimes all at the same time. Should I be more concerned about the cores or the focus on the generation?

    Thanks!

How's the battery life on the 2020 13-inch Pro?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 10:48 AM PDT

I have been getting conflicting info, so I thought maybe some actual users would not mind sharing what they get. Tom's Guide claims the battery life is great, while GregsGadgets (and others) have said it's mediocre.

I'd be getting the highest end model, if that matters. I really don't want to get the 16-inch -- it's seems to be too heavy and I have small hands -- but if the power and battery life behind it are substantially better, I may just make the leap and deal with the inconvenience, since I won't be traveling with it anyway.

I would not be doing anything intense, like 4K stuff -- it'd be browsing sites and listening to YouTube in the background mostly or just using the latter by itself with some tabs still open. Photo editing? Possibly but I have only ever done that on my phone thus far. Video editing? Probably not. Some video chats here and there too.

    Basic stuff, overall.

    Thanks.

Will "Other" files transfer to my new MacBook?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 01:05 PM PDT

    Hi everyone!

I just purchased a MacBook Air 2020, and I'd like to move my info from my Early 2015 Air onto my new device. However, I've got about 67.5 gigs of "other" data that I just cannot seem to get to go down on my storage, despite a lot of effort to go through and delete scores of old files and caches and stuff. I'd really like to not have that transferred over to my new device. Does that mean I just need to manually set up my new computer and just try to transfer my main files? Or can i use the migration assistant without pulling over the "other" data?

Help is very appreciated! Thank you!

Today is the day I finally upgrade from my 2009 MBPro

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 08:54 AM PDT

They say the new machine (16" MBPro, refurbished 2019 model) will be arriving today. How should I best transfer my data from the old machine to the new one? Time Machine?

Any suggestions regarding docking stations? Must-have apps? MS Office suite?

I still use a stack of fire-wire drives for my old backups and external storage. What is the current recommendation on new hard drives for this purpose?

    Audio trouble with screen recording

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 09:22 AM PDT

Hi I'm losing my mind right now

I have a new MacBook Air (A2179 I think) and I am having a lot of trouble with screen recording. I have to record a meeting (but cannot do a zoom recording) and I have trouble with my sound. I downloaded the black hole plugin and I created the aggregate input and multi-output on the audio MIDI. I made sure system prefences, zoom sound, and QuickTime were all matched with the same input and output. I am using Bluetooth headphones because of the space I'm in. The trouble is, either no one can hear me or the sound is in credibly distorted (low pitched slow, or incredibly high pitched like a chipette) I've tried everything I can think of I've used the drift correction and I've checked the sample rate. If this is not the right subreddit, please let me know where I can go.

    Thanks!

Dual, extended monitors using 1 HDMI out and 1 thunderbolt2out?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 05:34 AM PDT

    Hi folks,

    I have a Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014 Macbook Pro.

I would ideally like to have a dual monitor setup with one horizontal monitor as the mirror, and a vertical monitor to my right as an extended.

Is it possible to do this using one HDMI cable out from the Macbook and one Thunderbolt2 to DP/HDMI cable out?

I hope that makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

    A 2017 refurbished MacBook Air?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2020 03:06 AM PDT

I've been thinking of switching from pc to MacBook for a while but the price has been a big deterrent. I spotted a refurbished 2017 MacBook Air with dual core intel core i7, 8gb of memory, and 256 gb ssd. Is this good? Should I get something newer? I don't really understand computer specs so I appreciate all the help I can get!
