    Home Unlabelled macOS My last 2 rows of favorite icons are cutoff. I tried resetting, clearing history and browser data, running first aid on my volumes. Nothing works.     Anyone else's macOS has the auto dark mode feature broken?

    Auto dark mode feature used to work, until maybe I got the latest macOS update. Anyone else having this issue?

    Edit: I have two MacBooks: personal 2017 MacBook Pro 13" and a work computer 2018 MacBook Pro 15". They both are exhibiting the same issue

    Leave current iCloud familyaccount and join other

    Hello! I want to leave my current iCloud familyaccount and join a new familyaccount. To be able to join the new familyaccount as a member I have to leave the old familyaccount. I have a lot of photos within iCloud photos and I don't know what happens if I leave the first family account. I don't want to loose any of the pictures.

    MacBook Pro Not Mounting External Hard Drive

    Hi all,

    I have a Mid-2012 MacBook Pro Retina 2.3GHz that is running MacOS Catalina 10.15.4. Yesterday, my external drive, a 1.5TB Seagate Backup Plus (partitioned 750GB into backup and 750GB into data, things like photos, videos, documents, etc.) disconnected on its own accord, and ever since, I could not get the drive to mount properly. What's more, I've noticed that whenever I plug it back into my computer, the drive seriously slows my computer down, causing it to hang on a few occasions, and prevents it from shutting down properly as well. The backup partition does mount but is virtually useless, as Time Machine doesn't work, and causes the aforementioned problems.

    I've run Disk Utility in an attempt to fix any errors but I've had no luck with it. It is able to detect the drive but can't do anything with it. I was able to get another laptop, a Windows 7 laptop, to read the "data" partition just fine. I also tried plugging in another Seagate external drive and was met with the same issue. I've also plugged in other types of USB devices, such as a USB drive, plugging in my iPhone, and have encountered no problems, leading me to think that it's a software issue. I've tried resetting NVRAM/PRAM and SMC, but continue to have no luck.

    If anyone can give me a hand here, that'd be appreciated. :)

    Downgrading a partition

    So, I have this mid 2012 MacBook Pro I got for free, and it has Catalina, but I want to set up a new partition with Mojave for things like 32x applications, but I can't find anything on how to do this, I won't want to erase my data, though there isn't much important stuff to worry about if it comes to that. Thank you in advance. Edit: No, I do not have a spare HDD or SSD and don't want to go and buy one just for this one thing and never use it again.

    MacOS Catalina SSD filled with 70GB of hidden space by system

    My system ran out of space suddenly. A few months ago, I installed Mac OS Catalina to a 256GB SSD. The only thing on this system is Xcode and project files. Suddenly it is out of space and can't install the latest update to Xcode.

    I checked diskutil, Daisy Disk, and df.

    Daisy Disk reports 70GB of hidden space on the drive.

    Diskutil is showing 2 partitions. I did not ask for a second partition during install.

    - Both drives are 256GB in size. (the SSD is only 256GB)

    - One drive is listed as 'internal' and is mounted at '/'

    - The second drive is 'synthesized'. not sure what it's for.

    Df command shows multiple partitions. 2 large ones at 165GB and 70GB.

    Not really sure what's going on. Should I backup my data and reinstall Mojave?

    2020 MacBook Air Kernel Panic

    Im on my first day with my brand new 2020 MacBook Air running factory settings (not restored from a previous backup) suffering from kernel panic shutdowns every 5-10 mins. Not during data transfer simply using safari.

    Running 10.15.4

    Reinstalled the OS, ran some SC2 no problem, logged off battlenet, opened finder it panicked and crashed for the 6 or 7th time today.

    Macbook Pro 16' Keeps waking up from Sleep on Catalina

    Been having random random wake ups from sleep with my Macbook pro 16' never had this issue using Mojave with my previous laptop but with Catalina this has been happening. I've tried turning off wake for the following wifi network access, put hard drive disks to sleep when possible, enable power nap while plugged in, and left on prevent computer from sleeping automatically. Also resetted the SMC and NVRAM which didn't do anything. Even tried going through terminal to see what was preventing my laptop going to sleep having those off when I set my laptop to sleep as well.

    It worked for a few days but then came back to waking up randomly from sleep.I posted what was showed up in my log that triggered wake or sleep and wanted to see if the information below would help as to why this is happening? On latest Catalina 10.15.4 as well.

    Messages not syncing from iPhone to Mac

    So I've been experiencing this annoying problem since I bought my iPhone few months back. The problem is that messages (I guess mostly SMS) are not syncing to my phone, at least not in realtime, eg. I don't receive a notification on the computer when a message arrives on the phone nor can I see the message in Messages app on the computer.

    A colleague of mine suggested that this might (or might not) be an outcome of using that Apple-made android app for syncing data between phones (Android -> iPhone). He suggestet that factory wipe of an iPhone and maybe iCloud restoration might help.

    Did anybody encountered similar problems? How did you resolve it? Thanks for literally any helpful advice.

    PS: The android sync tool may actually be the case, given the fact that I've spent several hours setting up AppStore on the iPhone and also performed multiple logins/logouts to and from my Apple account.

    PS2: The setup is MBP '16 with MacOS 10.14.6 and iPhone 11 Pro with the newest system.

    I recently had to erase my internal hard disk and reinstall OSX. That got me to wondering where are the boot files stored on a Macbook Pro and the basic operating system launched in recovery mode? Does the machine have it's own built-in hard disk?

    Trigger reminder when opening specific app

    Hey, I'd like to create reminder, that will remind me to record my screen when opening Adobe After Effects.

    I constantly forget to record the process of creating an animation, so I'd like to set up a reminder, that will remind me to do so, when I open a specific app. Something similar to location based reminders on iOS but in this case user activity based. I tried to figure out something in automator but i failed. Neither I found any clues online, so perhaps someone here could help me?

    Technical Question: Why can Nvidia no longer have their drivers work in Catalina

    So, I've heard that part of the reason that Nvidia web drivers no longer work in Mojave+ is that the Nvidia can't get Apple to sign the drivers anymore. (Don't know if this is true but it's the explanation I heard)

    However, I know that some of the hackintosh guys use kexts that are not signed for different drivers. Are those kexts from the hackintosh guys written in user space rather than kernel space and that's why they work or what?

    Just trying to understand the technical reasons for what's going on with it.

    Upgraded to Catalina and my laptop is now a mess, struggling to revert it back, advice?

    So I have a Macbook Pro (2012) 4Gb memory, updated from High Sierra to Catalina 10.15.4 and its been 3 days and it seems the computer is slowly getting worse. Can't use google chrome because it makes the computer incredibly slow, using Firefox currently but thats starting to slow down, any application I use sets the fan off to a ludicrous degree and the computer is so hot it hurts to touch.

    I have tried deleting apps I do not use and files I don't need to increase the harddrive space but the computer is still a mess, I can't use my graphics tablet either as its now too outdated, so I thought screw this I'll time machine it back to before the update, as i made a backup. Trouble is I now get this message.

    'The system cannot be restored onto this disk because HFS systems can't be restored to space sharing APFS volumes. Reinstall MacOS on this disk and then use Migration Assistant to transfer data from your backup assistant.'

    So I'm pretty lost to be honest, I don't fully understand what to do and could use some help. As I see it my options are:. Backup all my files, then factory reset my mac, and hope that this solves the slowdown/fan/overheating issues

    . Find a way to get time machine to work, if anyone has any advice on it that would be great
    Will factory reset allow me to use my time machine once the mac is blank, or is that out of the question now?

    . Find a way to downgrade my mac to high sierra without time machine, but I've had a look around and this doesn't seem possible

    If anyone has some advice it would be greatly appreciated as I'm currently stuck with a near useless machine and its pretty aggravating.

    Download Catalina OS image in browser for update.

    Folks, I am trying to update from Mojave to Catalina. Is it possible to download an image (iso or dmg) in browser and install it? I tried updating it with the inbuilt updater but the 8GB download would not resume if there is an interruption, and instead would start from scratch. I am desperate after the update got interrupted for a couple of times. Both the times the the interruption happened around 7 GB. I am now stuck in a place with mobile data capped at a few GBs. So please comment if I can do this?

    Cheaper Options for Parallels
