It's my first Apple TV and completely new to it, so what's new and tricks for it? Also is AppleCare necessary?

    HD & 4K Movies

    Posted: 05 May 2019 04:56 AM PDT

I know when the 4K Apple TV was announced they said anyone who has HD movies will have those movies updated to 4K for free.

What happens if I buy a HD movie today? Will it get upgraded to 4K for free? How does that work?

Maybe a silly question about HDMI Arcand ATV4K?

    Posted: 05 May 2019 04:00 AM PDT

    Hi All,

Most probably a silly question but... I've just picked up a 4k television today and I've got the AppleTV 4k box. I've got an older surround sound which is bluray but it's fairly old now (Samsung HT-BD1252). Will I be able to use HDMI Arc through this older surround sound system and still get 4k picture quality even though the Surround Sound doesnt support 4k itself? Also, another silly question but I'm guessing if the above does work, both cables going into the tv and surround sound would need to be 4k hdmi cables?

    Thanks in Advance.

    Apple TV gen 3 remote.

    Posted: 04 May 2019 06:00 PM PDT

So my touch area at the top recently got a small crack in it. It still work but it's bothering the hell out of me. And my girls friend "has no clue how it happened..." Any why is it possible to get a replacement remote or is that not a thing?

If I buy an Apple TV (4th gen) 4k and hook it up to my non 4K tv, will it still work? Will I be able to play 4K content if I wanted to or is that just not possible?

Apple tv 4k while playing Netflix displays Dolby vision not hdr especially when tv doesn't have Dolby vision.

    Posted: 04 May 2019 10:15 PM PDT

Hi to all. I'm new to this community but I'm having some frustrations that if anyone can help will be super appreciated.

Pretty much I can't get my apple tv to display hdr while playing Netflix. It shows Dolby vision when tv doesn't support vision. I know this because Netflix banner says Dolby vision.

    Pretty much the run down

    My set up

    Q90r Samsung TV 82 inch

    Sony sound bar htst5000

Apple 4k tv ( just bought a few days ago)

Rocket ultra 4k HDMI ( used as arc between sound bar and tv)

Belkin 4k ultra HDMI ( just bought today from apple)

The biggest issue and most frustrating is when apple tv 4k is connected directly to sound bar

On Netflix app from apple tv it shows Dolby vision and Dolby Atmos on a majority of titles / as well as it shows ultra 4k

Which triggers tv to play content in hdr mode. The tv changes picture setting to hdr.

BUT MY SAMSUNG Q90R DOESNT SUPPORT DOLBY VISION ONLY 4K ULTRA, HDR10 AND HDR10+

I tried every combo possible with frame rates, gama, every setting on apple TV but to no avail it never shows hdr on a Netflix show.

I changed formats, changed to hdr on apple tv/ then to sdr, everything possible. So for life of me, I don't know

This is an issue cause I know Dolby vision is a different format then hdr , which the tv believes it's displaying so I feel the colors are off.

I tried the same content, on the Samsung TV app and her on TV is brighter then on apple tv when it's displaying Dolby vision.

I did so much research, called Netflix, and apple and no luck.

Can you guys please help, I'm about to return this item.

I really appreciate any help. Thanks.

    Buying new Apple TV

    Posted: 04 May 2019 07:11 AM PDT

Hey! I have an old Apple TV 2. It works perfectly normal and I mostly use it for Airplay. Is it time to buy a new one (4K) although my current one still works?

    Airplay issues

    Posted: 04 May 2019 02:16 PM PDT

Just brought an Apple TV home. Tried out airplay via several apps. All work fine EXCEPT for Google Play Movies (I have bought several things on it from the Android days). The video plays but there's no sound.

Has anyone had this issue and can point me in the right direction?

Multiple Users for New Apple TV App?

    Posted: 04 May 2019 12:10 PM PDT

I've been using Apple TV for quite some time now. Every one at home uses our Apple TV, but the problem is that the Apple TV app doesn't support multiple users, which makes things difficult when many people at home use the same Apple TV and watch the same shows a different times.

Having our profiles would help us catch up on where we left off and getting recommendations based on our personal preference.

Does any one know if the new Apple TV app will support multiple users/profiles?

If any StarZ subscribers here - can you please check if black level is high (i.e. black looks grey)?

    Posted: 04 May 2019 11:19 AM PDT

Compared Casino on StarZ and my own iTunes copy. Apart from the black level issue, StarZ edition is 16:9 compared to 2.40:1 on ATV

4K, worth it to wait for a new model?

    Posted: 04 May 2019 10:55 AM PDT

    1. According to the MacRumors Buyer's Guide, it's advised to wait for a new model. I have 3 4K TVs, but all of my Apple TVs are the models previous to the 4K version.

    2. If I buy movies off of iTunes, will I be able to watch those movies in 1080p now, and then be able to watch in 4K/HDR when I finally get a 4K Apple TV? In other words, does it just dynamically play in whatever is the highest resolution possible on the device?

Hello, I'm looking for a monitor that could be used with apple TV. Any recommendations?

    Posted: 04 May 2019 10:51 AM PDT

I've ran into a few issues trying to find the best one,

    1. The monitor should have built in speakers, and the volume should be able to be controlled via the apple tv remote
    2. It should support HDCP
    3. HDMI input ofc
    4. HDMI-CEC compatible

Anything between 100€-200€ would do. Thanks for your time!

ATV gen 3, black content miniatures...

    Posted: 04 May 2019 12:14 PM PDT

Just a small tip some people may not know

    Posted: 04 May 2019 07:43 AM PDT

Double tap the remote (don't press it) to make the view of your movie full screen instead of the black bars which is widescreen.
