2019 MacBook Pro 15” dock station

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 11:43 PM PDT

    Hello,

I'm looking in to using my MacBook as a desktop in my home office while I'll be working from there. I was looking in to some docking stations but I can't seem to decide on one. I would like to have an HDMI out maybe two, Ethernet, and at least 4 USB ports. It would be nice if it charged the laptop as well but not a priority. I keep coming across docks that aren't compatible with current MacBooks and cheap looking adapters that look like they'd over heat. What stations do you guys use? Any recommendations? Thanks!

    MacBook 16 purchase advice/help

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 10:02 PM PDT

Hello everyone, I recently picked up a base 16" MacBook with an upgrade to storage to 1TB. However, i was browsing around and completely forgot about apples refurbished store and found an i9 model for the same price I purchased mine for. So now I'm debating whether to swap to the refurbished, for the same price with a much "better" spec. The reason I put that in quotations is because I know I'll never use that amount of power from the laptop. It's been bugging me for a few days and would just like some input. I would appreciate it.

Help: Someone else’s Bluetooth devices keep connecting!

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 08:32 PM PDT

I just started noticing an issue where my MacBook keeps connecting to my wife's iphone via Bluetooth. It is shown as "bold" in the Bluetooth menu. Her AirPods are also listed but not connected.

I've tried removing the devices multiple times but they always reappear.

Note, we have separate iCloud accounts associated with our login accounts.

Help: Older Macbook Pro 5 internet not working

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 08:32 PM PDT

Ok I have been asked by my cousin to see if I can find a fix for a macbook pro 5 problem.

    He has a macbook pro 5 2.53 GHz (13 inch I think) with 10.5.8 Mac OS X

He says the macbook pro (via safari) will only seem to load his gmail web email but nothing else via internet. He said his internet is working on his phone, and streaming devices so his internet is working. I am more into PCs then macs. I only have had old ipods and an Iphone 4. But before I wonder all over the might of the internet I thought I would ask the good people here.

I do not think he tried to update anything as the 10.5.8 seems a slightly older OS since I think mac is up to 10.14 now?

    new macbook air 2020 crashing

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 12:37 PM PDT

so yesterday i received my new macbook air and i installed all my software on it and updated it with the latest update. been using the macbook for a few more hours and went to bed. today when i got home from work i installed 2 more programs: the unarchiver and 1password7 a while after that the macbook started crashing on a regular basis: it freezes, fan goes to 100% for about a second and then the mac shuts down. after booting up again i am greeted with an error log ( looks like a kernel panic) anyone else experienced this kind of crashes? i now removed both programs so i hope the crashing stops. i will include the log. maybe someone can figure out what's going on? also note it's not always cpu 2 i have seen cpu3 in one of the reports as well...

    MBA, MBP, or wait?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 07:37 PM PDT

I've been considering a new laptop for quite some time. I got approved for some money through cost adjustment forms at my university. I was set on purchasing the base model MBP, but I'm SUPER indecisive. After messing around with a friend's MBP, I'm not impressed by the Touch Bar. With that being said, I was considering a MBA 512GB (instead of base model). However, after reading around, I wonder if I'd be better off waiting til the summer?

The main reason why I want it now is because my classes have shifted to all online and I'm having trouble keeping up with my current laptop. I'm in need of a new charger, so should I just use the $ from school to purchase a new charger and wait it out? Or should I splurge and get one now?

Mid 2012 MacBook Pro (Update question)

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 06:05 PM PDT

I've updated my hardware throughout the years. Took out the cd drive and added a solid state drive, upped the RAM, changed the thermal paste that holds the components inside together. Now I'm wondering if it's worth it to update the iOS to Catalina. Has anyone had issues running it with their older Macbook Pro? I'm currently on 10.12.6 Sierra, by the way.

My MacBook Air 2019 has a cycle count of 162 and the full charge capacity is 4033mAh, I was just wondering if this is normal as I've only had the MacBook since October and the fact it's degraded down to only 4033mAh seems a lot?

My 2017 MBP is weaf af. How to optimize? Why is she like this?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 03:48 PM PDT

    I have a base model 2017 MBP, 2.3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3.

It runs so loud and slow so easily. If I have one tab of one app open, it's great, fine. If I have more? Depends on the website. 3 tabs of Amazon? Computer immediately gets LOUD, hot, and slow. Video streaming and a couple plain tabs? Same thing. Word and Excel at the same time? Fuck me. I probably couldn't run iMovie.

This is a fairly new computer, it shouldn't be like this already. How do I trouble shoot this, what do I do?

Flashes of white light when watching episodes on Netflix?

I've just noticed these recently, since normally when I watch videos I'll use my phone or my smart tv. However, watching Netflix the last couple of days, I've noticed that every few minutes, there's a very quick flash of white light. The video or audio doesn't pause, but it's almost like the camera angle is changing but instead of the angle changing it's just bright white light. Does this sound like a familiar problem?

For the record I have a 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display.

Perfect fit of Macbook air 2020 vs 2015

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 10:18 AM PDT

Perfect fit of Macbook air 2020 vs 2015

    Fast and great!

I bought a 2015 air new back in early 2016 and have been waiting for an upgrade, but skipped the awful keyboard (including the pro's which even don't have the Esc key, and that's an insult for a Vim user ¬¬). Now, just with a proper upgrade/update, I've moved all of my project to the new machine, and I'm very happy with the performance of the new machine; most of my work is don in angular, and the most CPU intensive thing is to generate builds, so here's a quick table comparing machines:

    Machine 1st run 2nd 3rd run
    2011 A6-3650 desktop (windows) 166s 170s 167s
    2015 Air (on battery) 115s 109s 108s
    2020 i5 Air (on battery) 62s 56s 68s

If you don't plan to use long running apps (like video/3d rendering), skip the overpriced 13" pro and give this thing a try, you'll be more than covered for various years to come :D
