[News] Packix is enforcing their ILLEGAL 'exclusivity' rule; It's time for devs to switch repos

[News] Packix is enforcing their ILLEGAL 'exclusivity' rule; It's time for devs to switch repos

Packix posted this on their official Twitter today:

    https://twitter.com/packixrepo/status/1218962501867573248?s=20

Their rule states that developers that decide to use Packix cannot use any other repo to publish tweaks.

    _____

TL;DR (More info below, if you want to know more):

This is not legal (read 'How is this illegal?'), and is really just a crappy thing to do. It's unfair to developers, and should not be tolerated.
It's HIGHLY recommended that ALL developers that currently host on Packix move to another repo.

    _____

I couldn't possibly refund all my customers...

If you are a developer, and you have paid tweaks, it's understandable why you may be hesitant. Especially if you have a high-selling tweak.

    u/NoisyFlake says:

As a developer, it's not that easy to move to another repo. Packix officially stated that we'd have to refund all buyers on Packix if we decide to leave Packix. And let's be honest, for some devs this is simply not realistically doable.

We completely understand if you don't want to move repos for this reason. It's difficult, and again, it's Packix' shoddy rules that are to blame for this.

However, If you're feeling particularly daring:
    Comment from u/jammytea :

Their TOS refer to products, not devs. They can't stop you using different repos for new tweaks, they just don't want you being able to move your packages. Leave your old packages there and use a new repo for any future tweaks

    _____

    Many people have been asking:

    How is this illegal?

These comments by u/HulkHogan402 sum it up nicely:

Mainly it is illegal because is it limiting competition, or what we in the biz like to call forming a monopoly.

If you'd like to take a look at the laws on the books about how and why is this illegal ill drop them down below.

If you live in the United States - Sherman Anti-Trust Act

If you live in the EU - Article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union

[That] could be the case if Packix wasn't forcing developers to refund every single purchase on their tweaks if they would like to switch repos.

    https://twitter.com/packixrepo/status/1218964066242306050

FYI: Yes, I did know this before and during the writing of this post, and no, I didn't use 'illegal' as some sort of scare tactic. It's truth, not opinion.

    • Comment by @@iPhone_Le0n on Twitter:

The only reason people turn to other repo is that you have not approved the packages that have been installed for the last 2 months. you wait for weeks. people are making efforts. spending time. you ignore it.
oddly enough, some developers approve their packages instantly while others do not. you arrange everything for customers, but remember this. you develop money with the developers. we produce, you sell and you get a share.

Been trying to get an account for my tweaks on packix for 2 months now but never a response. Twickd instantly let me create and upload packages so I know what I'll be using for my future packages (bigboss is good and all but I'd rather use a more modern/less spam repo)

As somebody who in the last 24 hours was selling my tweak Kalm on Twickd and Packix, I was told this would not allowed by Packix, same as /u/NoisyFlake. While I see both sides, I don't think forcing developers to sell their tweaks only on one platform is something that helps customers or developers. A customer should always have the choice where he buys something.

    Significance:
Packix has had a history of unfairness to both developers and customers. However, we pretty much ignored it because they host so many popular tweaks. There's no reason for them to act this way. The developers behind the team, while talented, are flawed in logic. It's unfair to all of us, and in the end- hurts all of us.

    _____

    Q&A:

Q: What's the URL for Twickd?

    A: https://repo.twickd.com/

    //

    Q(ish): By u/thekirbylover :

Cydia has a bug where the same package on two repos will keep showing up as having an update. It also seemingly randomly decides which repo it'll use for the package (Sileo and Zebra might be the same).

    A: By u/himynameisubik :

But this issue is countered by Twickd by changing the identifier. While this is not ideal, it works.

[Discussion] What tweaks for iOS 13 should be avoided due to issues with crashing or battery drain ect.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 05:30 PM PST

This is not in anyway meant to be hating on tweaks or developers just aiming to be a guide for people to know what might be causing their issues. If you are going to comment a tweak please make sure to actually give a reason as to why it should be avoided.

[Release] Just published ftab-dump, a dumper of AirPod firmware images

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 05:05 PM PST

    Hey

I just published a dumper of ftab firmware images as used by AirPods (incl. Pro).

    http://github.com/19h/ftab-dump

Posting it here as it may enable some curious people to play with the binaries (and audio files) extracted by it.

Note that this concerns the ftab.bin file located at AssetData/Firmware.ascw/ftab.bin in the extracted MobileAccessoryUpdate directory.

The updates can be downloaded directly from Apple via https://mesu.apple.com/assets/com_apple_MobileAsset_MobileAccessoryUpdate_A2084_EA/com_apple_MobileAsset_MobileAccessoryUpdate_A2084_EA.xml (i.e. http://updates-http.cdn-apple.com/2019/ios/061-47906-20191105-BE7373BC-0598-11EA-9814-0EB29D0252EE/com_apple_MobileAsset_MobileAccessoryUpdate_A2084_EA/7f125bac43966133a96342d40a098006b0424c79.zip for 2B588, note that 2C54 was pulled by Apple).

p.s. iFixIt found a L476MGY6 chip, which is actually a STM32L476MGY6 (Cortex M4). It uses the ARMv7E-M architecture and the usual thumb, dsp, ... instruction set. Configure the disassembler accordingly :-)

[Discussion] Could we organize and streamline re-jailbreaking/re-signing solutions?

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 06:31 PM PST

With so many Apple revoke and re-signing problems recently, thanks to dedicated members here there are a number of schemes to get back again, at least for a while. That's the good news.

Somewhat less good news is that reading through hundreds of posts, the schemes are sometimes difficult to locate, and then figure out. Some solutions seem simple, some more involved, and one or two downright confusing, at least for those who don't do this kind of thing all the time. Yes, we have a pinned megathread about the overall issue near the top of our sub (thanks to Mods for that), but the various solutions are often buried in the many posts below the heading, and even then, they vary depending on who is explaining their personal solution(s). A few step-by-step solutions that appear the same, nonetheless list slightly different steps and versions of the required programs. In addition, some solutions work only for a specific iOS or iDevice model. (Even on the same device and iOS, results may vary or not work at all, as reported by users.)

Finally, due to r/jailbreak's anti-piracy policy of not allowing posting the names of files and sites we might need, makes getting a fix for our devices even more complicated. I've learned this the hard way, but I certainly agree in principle with the policy and rule, even if it sometimes seems overly strict. Anyway, not our call.

THE POINT OF ALL THIS: I'm wondering if we can somehow gather all the known re-signing/reinstalling solutions together, complete with which iOS versions and devices they work with, step-by-step instructions that even a novice can understand, perhaps brief user comments, caveats and rankings, then present them in an organized, easy to understand way. I assume because of the aforementioned anti-piracy policy, this "mega solution" information might have to be posted elsewhere. Not sure where or how that would be done. I would be happy to contribute what I can to the effort, but being the average user (also sometimes confused by these issues myself), I'm probably of little use on the technical aspects. Still, I'd do what I could, and I'm sure there are many here who would also contribute and help organize. Maybe even mods could help.

This is the first time I've proposed any such idea here. I typically just read posts, offer my own experiences when asked, and of course use this resource as the best place for jailbreak info and help. Therefore I apologize in advance if I have somehow missed seeing anything like what I'm proposing, or if this idea is not presented well. I just feel that many here would appreciate something more organized, rather than like me, having to keep asking questions about every little step in trying to get (and hopefully stay) jailbroken again.

We may be on different iPhones/iPads and different versions of iOS, but we all enjoy being jailbroken and would like to stay that way if possible with the least hassles.

    Cheers to all.

[Request] iMessage is great but this ONE feature would make it amazing!

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 09:28 PM PST

Have a top tab to switch between all texts and those you haven't responded to. This would be incredibly useful. You could keep it on the "not responded to" tab and have a completely cleared "inbox" of sorts; just like how many of us clear our email inbox until it is all clean. If this tab is empty, you know all of your messages have been responded to.

[Tutorial] How to make the YouTube Splash Screen Dark, so your eyes don't burn during the night.

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 09:11 AM PST

Honestly, I see this requested almost once a month. I replied yesterday to a request post on how to do it, but I said to myself, just make a post cause the comment will get lost. So, here we are. You will need Filza and iCleaner for this tutorial.

    Steps to follow:

    1. Download the dark splash screens I made from HERE - or make your own ( take note of the needed dimensions for each file).
    2. Extract the zip to a folder somewhere in Filza, e.g. /var/mobile/Documents/
    3. Copy the 4 .png files
    4. Press the Star Button from Filza's bottom bar, and select Apps Manager find Youtube from the list and press the i Button, then select Bundle - or Navigate yourself to /private/var/containers/Bundle/Application/RANDOM_CODE_FOR_YouTube/Youtube.app.
    5. Paste the copied .png files and replace the original ones.
    6. Run uicache.
Optional 6A. If the splash screen isn't changed after this, it is probably because of iOS's way of caching apps. Run iCleaner with Applications toggle set to ON. After the respring the Splash Screen will have been set.
    7. Profit.

[Release] Chromatic — Colourfy your iOS 13 music app

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 08:45 AM PST

    What is it?

This tweak allows you to enable the colourful now playing view on any song even if it does not have lyrics. Just press the lyrics button (it will still look like its disabled) and it will activate.

Note: If the song already has lyrics, they will still show. This tweak just enables the lyric mode to be activated on songs without lyrics.

This is my first tweak and I will be open sourcing it. If someone knows how to keep this view permanently enabled (e.g. at the moment selecting the queue button will disable it), feel free to make a pull request.

    Where can I get it?

Source code and release .deb available at: https://github.com/henryli17/Chromatic/releases

Edit: Have submitted to BigBoss, will update post when it is available.

[Discussion] Magma Evo will be taken off Twickd, please contact me so I can transfer your purchase to Packix

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 12:00 PM PST

    Hi everyone,

as I was made aware today, Packix no longer allows selling a package on another repo when it's also hosted on Packix. I wasn't aware of this since it wasn't a rule when I started hosting on Packix, but apparently they recently changed their Terms of Service. However, I didn't receive any notification about this change, or I wouldn't have started hosting on multiple repos from the beginning. This was only done to give the user a choice if they preferred one repo or another, but apparently this is no longer an option.

Be that as it may, I'd have to ask all users who purchased Magma Evo on Twickd to contact me so I can transfer your purchase to Packix (as the package will be removed from Twickd soon). Make sure to include both your Packix ID and the email address you used on Twickd. If you originally bought the package on Packix and then transferred your purchase to Twickd, you're good and don't need to contact me.

    I apologize for the inconveniences.
