If you could send a message to the beyond about us, what would it be? (Drawn on iPad)

I bought an iPad Pro 11inch 64gb two months ago and now I’ve got different times a very thin black line in the middle of the screen. It shows up for like a couple of minutes and disappear, it happens a few times every day. Does anyone knows more about this?

Did iPad OS fix the issues with the Apple Pencil draining battery life?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 09:45 AM PST

I habe an iPad Pro 11 Inch and considering buying the Apple Pencil 2. However I habe read reports that keeping the pencil attached to the iPad drains the iPads battery life quite quickly. Has iPad OS fixes this issue?

Thoughts on the new basic iPad?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 01:36 PM PST

I currently have an iPad Air, the original model, so it's from... 2013? 2014?

The base iPad was on sale for Black Friday, the $429 (CAD) model. While I don't need a new iPad, as I don't use mine a lot, I grabbed one because iPadOS looks fun, and my current Air is capped at 12.4.

Thoughts on this model? I'll be using it primarily for the very odd and non-demanding game, Spotify, Netflix, reading, and that's pretty much it.

Is it worth the upgrade over the original Air? Doesn't ship until tomorrow so plenty of time to cancel.

iPad Pro 256 GB pr iPad Mini 5 64 GB?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 12:19 PM PST

What would be a better choice, I found deals in my local shop for iPad Pro 10.5 256GB for 400 and iPad mini 5 64 GB for 375.

What would be a good decision to go with. I'll be using the iPad for reading, social network, some light gaming and video viewing. All feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I feel that with the iPad’s bigger screen and just a bit more power, I’d like to have more content displayed rather just a bigger images

On the reddit app, it's bothering having to scroll through giant posts and on the Instagram app, it's just the same as Instagram on your phone, but crudely blown up. I like that you can keep the Today View on the home screen and you can multitask apps. Your thoughts?

    Air 2 —> iPad 2019?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 12:19 PM PST

    Hey everyone,

Currently looking to upgrade mom's iPad Air 2 for Christmas this year and have been trying to pare down my options. I've been looking at iPad 2019 because of it's attractive pricing during the holiday season, but it doesn't seem like much of an upgrade from what she has now and worse in others. She's not a power user by any means, just your typical email, streaming, basic word processing type things. I do like the option of the smart connector on it for the keyboard attachment. I just wanted to get some other opinions on options. I'm also open into looking to get refurbished if I'm missing something from apples side as well.

What exactly went wrong with the iPad 3?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 01:46 PM PST

I've heard that this iPad had the guts of an iPad 2 but with a retina screen. I've heard mixed results saying that the performance was either the same was the 2 (not counting some games toning down their effects which wasn't a big deal to me), or it was actually slower than the 2 due to the GPU not being sufficent. I would be interested to know if the iPad 3 was slower than the iPad 2 on iOS 5-7. It's pretty much agreed that both iPads on 8 and 9 were really slow.

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 06:17 AM PST

As of now, iPad 32 GB at Amazon for $229. I'm thinking of picking one up as a work device even though I've got the Air 3.

    Anyone else picking up another?

Can someone detect the problem? My iPad has been doing this for days and I don’t know if the problem is the charger or the iPad.

What's the least expensive refurbished 12.9" that would work well for annotating PDF files?

I'd like to grade student papers and my 6th gen 9.7" feels a little small for the job and my aging eyes.

    Keyboard issues: hitting send?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 09:33 AM PST

My (apple) keyboard keeps pretending to have disconnected. Mostly, it's a question of if I type something, nothing happens. But lately it's started doing *other* things. Case in point: I just went to write an email (an important, work related one) and i tapped into the message box and went to type. But as soon as I started typing, the email SENT ITSELF. Or, what i think is more likely, the ipad keyboard registered a "cmd" press alongside whatever letter i typed and sent it (cmd+D?) - this happened TWICE. Some poor colleague just got 2 totally blank emails because of this. I had to totally restart My ipad, and dis- and re-connect the keyboard for it to work properly again. This isn't the first time either. Is there an issue with these keyboards? Could it just be an aging thing?

    Drawn using the iPad mini

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 03:40 PM PST

iPad Pro/iPhone is the best pair device for notetaking. if you're in a class with lots of diagrams or professors who constantly erase/rewrite on the same spot and you're strapped for time to rewrite new notes. I spend less time fiddling/rewriting and more time focusing on the lecture - my use cases.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 06:50 PM PST

you often hear that "pen and paper" is the way to go when it comes to taking notes as opposed to using a laptop - which i totally agree.

however, using an iPad Pro mixes the best of both worlds - the versatillity of being able to use computer features like undo, redo, copy, resize while still retaining the natural cognitive/mechanical benefits of traditional paper/pen note taking.

it also cuts down on "wasted" movement. instead of fumbling between swapping colors (for those who have lots of diagramming/drawing in courses) or using rulers to get straight lines, or having proper grids, erasing a mistake...everything is done much faster on an ipad.

i think this is the most underlooked benefit of using the ipad. i've used other apps like the surface to Thinkpads in the past, but because the software/hardware integration was always an afterthought, the small inaccuracies add up that it's just beneficial to go back to pen and paper.

because ipad pro + pencil works REALLY well so everything feels natural. not only that but if my friends miss a class, i can easily just send them my notes and they're just amazingly impressed at how detailed everything was. i take very detailed notes to begin with but since i got an ipad pro, i was able to be even MORE DETAILED and show the progression of the lecture.

i do engineering/maths and we draw tons of circuits. a lot of what the teacher explains such as current flow i would draw on paper in the past but a week later i would sometimes look at it and not know the exact details. using NOtability's recording feature that records not just audio but even my writing, i would press play and i could literally see an animation of myself drawing the current flow.

Same with math. i used to rewrite calculations so I can better understand the step by step progressions - this causes a lot of wasted time where my cognitive efforts are now put towards note taking instead of listening. Now whenever the teacher takes notes, instead of scrambling like the rest of the class re-writing everything, I just write it once and I can shift my focus to the teacher talking.

If the teacher pulls up a slide that's not in the notes (or a diagram), I can quickly take a photo from my textbook on my iPhone and shift it to my ipad in less than 10 seconds through Airdrop (while doing the necessary cropping/resizing), quickly annotating whatever verbal notes the professor is saying to the picture.

anyways, sorry for the lengthy post. I've just had this for a week and it has honestly been a game changer - trimmed down the unnecessary movements (in engineering we call it "motion waste") and added extra cognitive benefits. I don't even carry my laptop with me anymore because I now remotely connect to my computer at home from Buffer Editor, code on my iPad and then push code to my PC to compile and test.

Wow... Local mp3 player for ipad? (so very much not iTunes please)

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 12:02 AM PST

    I googl'd and duckduckgo'd with no luck.

I want to play files I have (local mp3's) on my ipad mini. (10.3.2)

I have MediaMonkey on PC (win10) (which has successfully copied files over from pc to the ipad)

I had an oooold 1st gen Ipad that I used oooold iTunes on, and that worked fine with this method (MediaMonkey --> ipad).

There is no MediaMonkey app for Ipad.

I don't want iTunes at all. apple went crazy, itunes is ugly, unusable and offensive to me. and 100% into streaming streams... I do not want this at all.

So, I have music and audiobook files on my ipad, how do I play them?

    VLC doesn't see 'em :(

neeeeeew itunes is, as i mentioned, an abomination. I will not use it.

I'd love an app that plays music, podcasts, playlists, and recognizes audiobooks (but it doesn't have to if that is impossible, I can playlist them as "music").

PS: MediaMonkey is pretty great on PC, i recommend it as a superior alt to itunes (even if you love streaming).

PPS: Why is this a difficult thing? Makes me long for the days of cassette tapes :(
