Possible first time Macbook owner. Looking for feedback on purchase Posted: 06 May 2019 08:41 AM PDT Hello MacBook reddit, My local MicroCenter currently has 4 Apple certified refurbished July 2018 model MacBook Pros. Key specs are: -15.4" -256gb ssd -Radeon pro 550x (4gb GDDR5) -i7 2.2ghz -16gb ram DDR4-2400 Would be $1695 after taxes, comes with 1 year Apple warranty and the option to add Apple care. From research it looks like it would be around $2000 flat for FR932LL/A model + 3 year Apple care. I did a quick search on google to see if Apple had any refurbs of that model and theirs is listed $2039 without tax or Apple care. Is this a good deal? I've been holding off for years now on pretty much every deal I've came across for MacBook Pro/Airs [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 May 2019 11:22 PM PDT Hi all! I've used MacBooks all my life, initially with an air back in 2012, and then I got a MacBook Pro Retina display back at the end of 2015. Recently, my computer has been a bit slow. There is nothing really WRONG with the laptop, but I kinda am leaning towards getting a new one since it's been almost 4 years. I haven't been keeping up with the Macbook scene, but I kinda wanted to grab a newer model, either air or pro. Have there been any MacBook releases this year? Will there be a release soon? I want to grab a new one that will last me a while, but I don't want to grab something that becomes the "older" version in like 2 months. Could some give me an insight on what I should get? Should I wait it out? Kinda want to get it sorted in these next few months. I mainly use the laptop low level work such as word documents, power points, and web surfing...ya know, student stuff. Any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments]
mint macbook pro retina late 2013 - use or sell for current version? Posted: 06 May 2019 10:33 PM PDT hey folks i have a macbook pro 13 inch from late 2013 still in its box, i've used it for about 10 hours total. i've been using an even older macbook as a workhorse but that one is finally on its last legs. i'm wondering whether to use the 2013 model, or try to sell it to put towards a current version. as far as i can see the 2013 is still quite good, slightly larger but has USB ports, 512GB drive, decent (?) keyboard. so not sure if there's anything to be gained by trading up, plus the hassle of selling. using for music production, adobe CS, general day to day. just wondering if anyone has any strong feelings about the differences in the models or anything i should be aware of. not interested in the touch strip versions. many thanks! Posted: 06 May 2019 10:19 PM PDT So I am looking to buy a MacBook Air 2014 but am planning to use it for tidal, proprosenter and normal web browsing. I was suggested to get one with i7 but wanted to get other opinions on this before I make a final decision. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 May 2019 05:04 PM PDT Hey guys, my MacBook died last night and it's been charging for about 5 hours now but when I try to force start it it just says it's charging. I went out and got a new apple charger but now when I try to force start it nothing shows up at all. Any idea on what to do?? [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 May 2019 07:23 PM PDT Hey, I just wanted to know if anyone is using a Macbook Touchbar without any cases on? Does the bottom part actually prevent it from surface scratches? I have often use cases on my laptops and was thinking what it feels without one? Thank you and sorry for this dumb question. 😠[link] [comments]

Posted: 06 May 2019 06:07 PM PDT Hi, all! My home recently flooded, and I lost my MB Air 2013 (that I'd had since 2013). My soon-to-be MIL gave me her old MB 5,1 that she doesn't use anymore, and my god is it gorgeous. Excellent condition, no bumps or scratches...but because of its age, I can't use Chrome or Firefox, Spotify, YouTube, etc.. Basically can't do any of the things I took for granted on my previous MB. I've tried creating a bootable USB install of a newer macOS, but it won't work, even with a patch; glad I didn't accidentally brick it, to be honest. I'm just wondering if there's any way I can at least get the above-mentioned applications working? Thanks in advance 💚 [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 May 2019 02:08 PM PDT I'm looking for a battery pack for my Macbook Pro 2015. This means it has to either come with a magsafe male connector built in, or I have to find a separate cable for it. It also needs to provide enough power to charge a large laptop, which I think most USB outputs won't. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
MacBook Air 2018 users, how long does your battery lasts? Posted: 06 May 2019 08:45 AM PDT Hi guys can you please tell me how many hours you are getting out of your 2018 MacBook Air, I wanna compare with mine cause think there's something wrong with it. My daily usage is mostly, web browsing, some youtube/netflix and Spotify and I'm only getting around 5 hours or so of battery life. [link] [comments]
15 inch or 13 inch MacBook Pro for computer science major! Posted: 06 May 2019 10:40 AM PDT Wondering if the 15 would be annoying to lug around all day or if it would be worth it to have the bigger screen! I have a 15 inch now from 2013 but I never really take it anywhere. Either way I will max out the specs, so really just wondering which size would be best? [link] [comments]
Slight rattle noise from left fan. Late 2013, 15" MacBook pro Posted: 06 May 2019 04:01 AM PDT I'm curious if someone has had a similar problem and/or knows what it is? Could it just be dirty or is it dying? If I have to replace it do I absolutely need a genuine fan? [link] [comments]

Macbook Pro 2010 random restart issue Posted: 06 May 2019 02:13 AM PDT Hi, so I'm trying to fix my friend's macbook that seems to restart randomly and getting this error message 'your computer restarted because of a problem...' His macbook is still on El Capitan running on 500gb hdd, therefore I assumed it's an os issue. So I decided to just swap it with an ssd and install high sierra by booting to usb device that contains the installer. During high sierra installation, the macbook restarts again giving me the same error message. And this just keeps repeating and just won't let me finish the installation. Any guesses what could be causing this? [link] [comments]
Is my 2011 MBP is trying to kill itself? Posted: 06 May 2019 12:13 AM PDT Within the last few weeks, my early 2011 MBP has leapt off the bed twice while running and taken a ~3 foot drop onto the carpet. Since I've had it, that's probably the fourth or fifth time it has taken a fall like that while running. Luckily most of the time it has fallen so that the lid closes as it lands and the screen hasn't cracked, though the one fall last week it landed right on its side like this < . Nothing appears damaged except that this most recent fall seems to have loosened the bottom cover a little in one corner. The fan isn't making any weird noises. From checking everything out things still work, SMART verified and all and I do have a Air Port Time Machine that it backs up regularly. Should I be concerned about anything else suddenly stopping?
