Apple Help 2tb iCloud storage full

Apple Help 2tb iCloud storage full

    2tb iCloud storage full

    Posted: 06 May 2019 07:22 PM PDT

Because I have 20 or so years of photos (totaling about 80k photos and videos) on iCloud photos and the library file is 2tb. So the question is, how the hell do I see the largest files? Is there a way to browse the local library file by size without going through a billion sub folders? Could a disk mapping util like daisy disk work on the single "file"? Any ideas? ive culled through some of it via the photos app, and boy is that painful, so if I could get a shortcut by seeing file sizes, it would save me at least some pain

I really just want Apple to upgrade to 3 or 4 tb. I'd be happy to pay and it's great having access to all my photos on all my devices

I have a Mid-2011 Mac Mini. According to Apple's website, it can handle two 4GB sticks of RAM. According to literally everywhere else, it can handle two 8GB sticks. What do?

    Posted: 06 May 2019 08:27 PM PDT

I'm trying to beef this little guy up so it can run a little game server for me and my girlfriend. I did some digging online. Most places say 16GB max. Apple support says 8GB max.

Not sure if I should blow the extra money on 16GB just to see if everyone else is correct.

Friend passed away, will we ever be able to crack his iPhone?

    Posted: 06 May 2019 11:48 AM PDT

My buddy passed away in November and there is definitely some gold on his phone in terms of pictures and videos. I am wondering, from the perspective of someone who is knowledgeable about Apple security, will we ever be able to somehow bypass the security on his phone and access his photos texts and videos? If not now, maybe someday as technology advances? From what I understand his iCloud could be recovered but this could potentially wipe much of his data. Thanks a ton in advance for any insight!

Had audio muted before reinstalling macOS/mojave, and after audio was still muted? Wouldn't it reset with OS?

    Posted: 06 May 2019 08:37 PM PDT

Hi, title basically, I posted this in macOS but saw applehelp and figured I could get some insight here too. I had my mac audio muted (audio all the way down to 0 bars) and noticed that after I reinstalled mojave, the audio setting seemed to save and stayed muted. I thought after completely wiping the disk and reinstalling the OS, wouldn't the audio setting not save or can anyone provide insight into how it's handled?

Edit: A user mentioned it is stored in NVRAM https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063, the article doesn't explicitly mention it's not erased with the disk, I'm wondering why not? Thanks!

Recommendations for a fully Time Capsule/Mac-compatible NAS Enclosure?

    Posted: 06 May 2019 05:54 PM PDT

I know Synology is the favorite, but I wanted to get this sub's most redcent opinion, as some of their latest models have less than stellar reviews, especially the single/double bay budget "j model" ones like this one.

My uses would be the following:

    • Time Capsule backups for 3 macs, none with storage larger than 256gb (possibly using a different imaging/full backup suite like Acronis later but Time Capsule for now)
    • Use of a (non-NAS standard "blue") WD 2tb HDD that I already have, currently in a cheap USB external enclosure with minimal use
    • Media streaming, Plex server if possible. MP4, AVI, and MKV files up to 4k in quality over a wired LAN network to a PS4 and Apple TV.
    • Miscellaneous file storage through Finder on the drive in areas not occupied by Time Machine, ideally without partitioning the drive
    • BONUS/OPTIONAL ability to insert a second drive later (if I start with one) that is formatted NFTS or exFAT in order to use across the occasional windows partition that I use for gaming (within the same enclosure)

With the above in mind, does the Synology drive still meet my needs? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks

My iPhone dialled emergency services in the middle of the night on its own?

    Posted: 06 May 2019 04:12 AM PDT

I'm puzzled as to how it happened, considering my phone was on my desk and my watch was on the bedside table- it was 4am and there wasnt anyone else in the house apart from my small children who were fast asleep beside me. At 4am I woke up to a siren coming from my phone, thinking it was my alarm I jumped up to switch it off so it didn't wake the kids up. I was wondering why it wasn't my usual alarm tone and didnt remember changing it.
But when I looked at the screen it said "dialing 000.." and the emergency SOS function had been triggered. Luckily I was able to cut the call before it connected (it shows 5 seconds duration on the call log) There was nobody who could have set it off. My phone and watch were on the other side of the room, so I didn't roll over on them in my sleep or anything.. . No other adults home and my children are too young to have done it, not to mention were very much fast asleep. Is it possible that this was a glitch? I can't find anything on google about it happening to anyone else apart from people who have accidentally triggered it while holding the phone..

iPhone 7 not making/receiving calls, Facetime and snapchat video not working, HELP

    Posted: 06 May 2019 10:02 PM PDT

This problem arose with my phone about a week ago out of nowhere, and has not fixed itself or been able to be solved by trying different solutions offered by various troubleshooting sources. My phone is able to make calls and incoming calls appear and can be answered, but after the time stamps on the call (for both outgoing and incoming calls) starts rolling, I can not hear anything on my side, and neither can the person calling me. Also, the speaker button is greyed out and not able to be pressed during calls for some reason. When I first discovered this, I tried facetiming the person I needed to call, and the facetime rang until they answered, said connecting, then displayed the persons face for half a second before failing. I then tried snapchat and instagram video calling, and the same thing as the calls happened (the video feed displayed but no audio came through on my side or the other person's). My phone has no other problems with audio, music plays fine, all sounds play fine, etc; My phone is also fully up to date with IOS 12.2 and honestly has no problems other than this. I have tried taking out my sim card, putting my phone on airplane mode, restarting my phone, basically everything that is suggested online. I wanted to reach out here as a last resort before contacting AT&T or Apple just in case anyone has any ideas, so PLEASE HELP IF POSSIBLE

    Face ID Question

    Posted: 06 May 2019 03:58 PM PDT

My spouse and I both have the iPhone X and use Face ID. On mine, whenever Face ID registers, in the box does a little swirly animation with blue circles, then a check mark. On my spouse's phone it's just a plain gray check mark. What gives?

Photo albums didn’t transfer to new iPhone

    Posted: 06 May 2019 09:45 PM PDT

I recently upgraded to an iPhone XR and restored from an iCloud backup from earlier in the day. After the entire restore was done, I noticed that all my photos had transferred, but not the albums that they were sorted in. I didn't think this should be a problem since my last iPhone was restored from an iCloud backup as well, and all my albums were transferred. Does anybody know how to fix this?

URGENT - Please help, I may loose 1500 photos of my twins. Since the second they were born until now (they are 4 months)

    Posted: 06 May 2019 09:34 PM PDT

Earlier today my phone fell from my jacket pocket. Since then the touch screen hasn't been working. Once in a while it will work for a minute and then stop working again.

By a miracle i've managed to hook it up to my computer and said it could trust it. Now im using Itunes and i've selected backup to my computer. It's now syncing.

I don't really care about the phone right now, all Im worried about is if by doing this, the photos of my twins in my phone will now be accesible in my computer.

If this doesn't work, will a oficial apple store be able to restore the photos?

I feel like crying right now.

    Mid 2011 iMac death?

    Posted: 06 May 2019 08:53 PM PDT

    Hi there,

First post and while im excited about the new imacs i was hoping to get another year out of the one i have, until this morning. I have a mid 2011 27" imac with quad 2.7 i5, 8gb ram and radeon 6770m 512 graphis. Up until today it was still a great computer for the really basic tasks that i use it for.

Mac is sudenly unuseably slow, wont launch many applications, won't login after going to sleep, beachballs over the simplist tasks (like entering one character of text into a field). I've reset the PRAM and run apple hardware diagnostics which showed no issues. Virus scan is clean. Activity monitor shows processors at idle and green memory pressure. Ive started it in safe mode and attempted to run only safari by itself (chrome wont even launch) and even then it is too slow to post on this site. After an hour of trying im posting using my tablet. Drive SMART status is "verified". Tried to install smart utility but again, too slow and wont download. At times the beachball is unresponsive to mouse movement which makes me think its not a drive issue. Theres 289 gb free on my 1 TB HDD. Also tried reinstalling the OS using recovery mode and no change. The strange thing is it starts up to the login screen like always with no issues or slowdown, it's only after logging in that the problems start.

What the heck could be the problem? I feel like ive checked everything and cant find anything wrong. Thanks for any help reddit friends!

Installing Mojave on a 2011 MacBook Pro

    Posted: 06 May 2019 08:40 PM PDT

    Hello all,

I am running an early 2011 Macbook pro, currently on High Sierra. I've replaced the OEM HDD with an SSD where the OS is installed, and the original HDD replaced the CD drive and is used as internal storage.

I've attempted to install Mojave from the app store, but am barred from so doing based on a warning that my device is not compatible - this is corroborated in the hardware compatibility list.

I understand a primary function of the new OS is optimizing the file handling structure for operation on devices with SSD.

As I have an SSD, can I run that OS? I imagine Apple has policies in place to prevent someone without the necessary hardware to install incompatible firmware, but I doubt any of the logic that prevents install from the app store takes into account my modified hardware.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks!

Transferring photo albums to new iPhone?

    Posted: 06 May 2019 08:33 PM PDT

I just restored my new iPhone XR from an iCloud backup and noticed that all my photos transferred, but not the albums they were sorted in. My iCloud status says that my device is still being restored. Will they reappear eventually or will I have to sort my photos all over again???

iMac freezes then restarts - no warning or error on restart - nothing in logs to suggest why - I'm losing my mind

    Posted: 06 May 2019 08:21 PM PDT

Hey everyone, I'm really hoping someone here can help. AppleCare expired 3 weeks ago... because of course it did....

    Here's what's going on.

    Symptoms:

My late 2015 27" 5k iMac (17,1) will freeze, totally. After about a minute, computer will automatically restart. No warning, no error, no message anywhere.

Does not freeze or restart in Safe Boot.

    Potential cause?!:

I recently installed 32gb (4x8gb) of OWC memory. I do not remember these restarts before that. However, memory has passed both Apple Diagnostics (holding "D" while booting) and Memtest86, without a single error on either.

    What I've tried so far:

Basically, I've been treating this like a kernel panic, even though there are no errors or logs to suggest it is one. I've done all the standard things, like resetting smc, pram, nvram, ensuring all software is up-to-date, etc...

As indicated above, I've run the apple dx test multiple times, and memtest86. Never gets any errors. I cannot find anything in the console logs to help me figure anything out. I have reseated the memory, and swapped dimms once. Unfortunately the apple memory was accidentally thrown away.

It has never frozen in Safe Boot.

I've run EtreCheck and no errors found.

Today I did a fresh install of MacOS Mojave, figuring this would solve the issue. Fresh as in formatted the hard-drive (and accidentally broke the fusion drive momentarily - fixed now :D) and installed from a bootable usb. Computer is fully updated. While I was downloading and installing some apps it froze and restarted again. All that was running was Safari and Settings. Re-ran the apple dx tool just to be sure, and it passed again...

I'm at a loss. I've requested a new set of OWC memory, though I'm not sure that's the issue since it validates on startup and has passed Memtest86...

I am somewhat comfortable with terminal if I have documentation or instructions, and I thought I knew what to look for in console, but I can't find anything that will help me figure out how to fix this!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much for your time.
