Posted: 15 May 2019 02:33 PM PDT I have to get a laptop for College and I'm considering getting a high end MacBook Pro but if a new model is coming out I might as well wait, I just wanna make sure it would release before school starts. Sorry if this is a stupid question I haven't been keeping track on when stuff releases after announcements [link] [comments]
How much is a 2011 MacBook with a new battery and works fine (but only 64GB) be worth? Posted: 15 May 2019 10:08 PM PDT A couple of keys have rubbed off, but otherwise it works well. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth spending the money to put a new battery ($80) in the laptop or just try to sell it without a battery. I have no clue about this stuff and I figured you'd be the experts. Thoughts? [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 May 2019 08:18 AM PDT Hey guys, so my old Acer Notebook is getting kinda busted after 7 years of travelling with it. I was looking for a new replacement and I like Macbooks all the way, but couldnt afford one until now. I need it for work(office, web browsing), media consumption and some music production. I was looking for the new Macbook Air 2018, because its way cheaper than the Pro 2018. But all the news lately about the keyboard problems, aswell as the display problems (Flexgate) are making me overthink my decision of buying a Macbook. I got a friend who owns the Pro 2018 and had to send it in 2 times because of keyboard issues. What are your experiences with those 2 devices. Do you think it's a bad time to buy a Macbook, if I want to use it for at least 6+ years? Should I wait for new generations? Every reply will be very much appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Internet gets really bad when I plug-in a HDMI cable Posted: 15 May 2019 10:39 AM PDT Hi, I currently own the 2017 MacBook Pro 13 inch with 4 thunderbolt ports. I love this laptop but there is one issue. I watch a lot of football (soccer) streams and when I do that I always like to connect my laptop to the bigger TV using a HDMI cable and a Thunderbolt to HDMI converter. Screen and sound quality is ok but my internet speed gets a lot worse everytime I plug the cable in. The stream starts lagging and freezing, and as soon as I pull the HDMI cable out, the stream works again immediately. I am very confused as I don't think a HDMI cable should cause Wi-Fi problems. Can anyone please help me? [link] [comments]
Where to sell Water Damaged Macbook Air Posted: 15 May 2019 12:02 PM PDT Hello, I have a water damaged 13" Macbook Air (2014) and i'm looking to sell it for parts. It basically doesn't work, but if you connect the charger it will boot up and take you into the login screen. I used to be able to login but it would shut down after a few minutes. But now the pad doesn't work either. I was just wondering how much i can sell it for parts and the best place to do it? [link] [comments]
40% Performance Hit from 10.14.5 update? Posted: 15 May 2019 09:55 AM PDT The latest MacOS update includes a patch for the Zombieload issue. Apple, reportedly, has claimed that the patch will reduce performance by 40% (Intel says 19%). https://ccm.net/news/29094-zombieload-bug-fix-will-mire-down-chips The question is, has anyone observed this massive slowdown from the update? Can the 2018 Macbook Air last as my daily machine for 5+ years? Posted: 15 May 2019 02:16 AM PDT (TL;DR at the end) Hi! I wanted to finally replace my laptop with a new one, and I have my eyes set on the 2018 Macbook Air. The current laptop I'm using is an ancient, dying, Late 2011 13-inch Macbook Pro. The great thing about it is that, in 2019, after 8 years, it can still handle many basic tasks (e.g., word documents, web browsing) really well, and I personally use it almost everyday for those kinds of tasks. But if we go to the more-demanding-but-not-so-much kind of work (e.g., excel spreadsheets, powerpoint presentations, photoshop work, light video editing in iMovie!!), it used to be able to do those well, but now it's just too painfully slow for me that it wastes so much of my time. As I'm starting college soon, I think it's about time I got an upgrade, because, well, I don't think I can afford to waste my time that much anymore. I'm torn between the 2018 Macbook Air and the 2018 Macbook Pro, but I'm leaning towards getting the Air, because (1) it's cheaper than the Macbook Pro (the Pro is so expensive, it's ridiculous. I love Apple products, but frankly it's annoying how expensive they are, especially when there are similar products with similar capabilities that are way cheaper); (2) it fits the criteria for what I'm most likely going to do with it; and (3) I heard great things about it. Based on the reviews I've watched and read, I know that the Macbook Air can actually achieve 4k video editing in FCPX, which I don't intend on doing, but it's a good way to scale on how powerful it is. The only thing stopping me is that I feel like I want the more powerful Pro, just because I feel like it can last longer than the Air. By "last longer", I don't mean in terms of hardware, but in terms of software - that in a couple years, it will still be powerful enough to do everything I want it to, without having to upgrade to another laptop. Applications I intend on using Frequently: Chrome, Microsoft Office, Spotify, Photoshop Sometimes: Illustrator, DaVinci Resolve (video editing), After Effects My question is will the Y-series processors inside the Airs still be powerful enough for the demands of applications 5+ years in the future? Or should I just cash out the extra cost of the MBP now to ensure that it will survive that long? I intend on using this laptop for a very long time, just like my current laptop. I know this laptop is still less than year old, and it's probably impossible to answer my question for sure, but I wanted to hear your thoughts and opinions and predictions(?). Every reply will be very much appreciated. Thanks! TL;DR - I want to replace my current laptop of 8 years and am asking if the 2018 Macbook Air will be powerful enough to last the demands of applications even in 5+ years, or if I should just go with the Pro to ensure that.
