I know for a fact I want a desktop as opposed to a laptop, IMac or Mac Mini. I do a lot of heavy editing of videos for youtube, and graphic design on Photoshop, Illustrator, etc so I want at least 16gb of ram & 256gb of storage. When it comes to features of the Mac I am COMPLETELY unaware of anything. I've been keeping up with ios & the "planned obsolescence" when it comes to updates on older phones, is it the same with Macs & their OS? I am totally fine with going for an older model (I can also go newer maybe mid 2017), but I don't want it to be useless in 1-2 years. I'm trying to stay out of the 18-19 models because the prices on those are out of my budget. What are some of you recommendations based on my needs? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]  |

Airdrop always takes a while to load up. | Spilled a little water on my Mac the other day Posted: 15 May 2019 08:58 PM PDT I accidentally spilled a little bit of water on my Mac the other day, freaked out cause I didn't know what to do and turned it off, left it alone and used it very minimally the next day and a half. The few times I'd use it, it seemed to be working fine and I had no issues, turn it on today and it seems like the K key has been messed up as it continually pops up like it's being pressed during login and when typing something. This is the only issue I've had and I was hoping that there might be some way to fix it as I'm so scared that I've messed up my Mac book Edit: Now it seems fine and is having no issues, what is going on? | Youtube preventing sleep on all my browsers except Safari Posted: 15 May 2019 08:40 PM PDT MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) Mac OS Mojave Version 10.14.4 (18E226) Had this macbook since 2015. I believe ever since last update, my macbook won't go to sleep with youtube on. I fall asleep to youtube videos so I'd like my macbook to fall asleep when the vid's over. I originally thought it was a chrome thing since i know mac and chrome don't seem to play nice in certain situations, but after checking my activity monitor, it happens on not just chrome, but firefox and opera too. The only one it doesn't work on is Safari, which I'm not a fan of using. Is there any way to fix it and go back to normal? [link] [comments]  |

Now I can't find where that device went and I want to know more about it, if it was just a forgotten device I had logged into or if someone is stalking me! Any help is appreciated, thanks y'all! | iPad Pro Touch Display Non Responsive Sometimes Posted: 15 May 2019 08:03 PM PDT This is my first time on the sub and am pretty sure this is the place to post my concern. My iPad Pro likes to respond to my touch most of the time, and then at random times, it'll just decide not to entirely work right anymore. I've got two visuals to kinda describe my situation if that helps The first vid is the main reason why I'm coming to you with this problem. I play the mobile game Clash Royale, which requires you to drag cards across the screen, and just recently, I've not able to do that very well It sort of seems that the iPad responds to the drag for a while, then thinks I lifted my hand up halfway through and stops dragging cards. Then I took a second video while "drawing" on the Notes app to show that without taking my finger off the screen, it again will either not respond at all or stop drawing the lines midway So, what might have been the cause of this problem, and what are any ways to resolve the issue? | Trying to revive an old MB Pro Posted: 15 May 2019 07:36 PM PDT I have a 2018 MB Pro with Mojave, and I tried to download El Capitan/Sierra/Lion from the App store to revive an old 2010 MBP that I have. The 2010 doesn't boot correctly, so I figured I would try a fresh install. I cannot download any previous versions from Mojave, and apparently this is a known issue. I'm a member of the developer program, so I went out there to download the Lion dmg from there. I mounted it, and the only thing listed was a pkg file. I copied that out, and extracted it. There isn't an Installer file in the pkg, but there is the full /Applications folder along with applications. Does anyone know if this is a viable file to create a bootable USB from, and if so how can I create a bootable USB from the .pkg? [link] [comments]  |

Some googling led me to try internet recovery, to reinstall the OS. I get to the reinstall screen but at the screen where it asks which drive I'd like to install Mac OS on, there are no drives listed. I launched disk utility, and the only visible volume is the recovery volume (macOS Base System - about 2 GB). Is my SSD kaput? If so what are my repair options here? [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 15 May 2019 05:11 PM PDT I have a mid-2012 MBP 10,1 (15" MBPr) & I intend on hanging one SSD & three 4TB drives off a single USB port through a USB3 un-powered hub. Each of these drives draws about 1/2 amp at full blast - let's say 3w each, totaling 12w, or 1.5A draw on the Mac's USB port. Is this safe, and is there somewhere I can see hard technical specs for the USB port's power supply capacities? TIA [link] [comments]  |
| Moving to T-Mobile from MetroPCS nightmare. Anyone know a legit unlocking service? Posted: 15 May 2019 05:09 PM PDT Back in February, I bought an iPhone from MetroPCS. It's a 6s and it works fine. I was told specifically when I bought it that they will unlock after 180 days, but if I was switching to T-Mobile, I didn't have to unlock, as they're now the same company. Fast forward to today, when I enter my local T-Mobile store to switch my service. I ask for the new $40 prepaid plan, and tell them I'm bringing my device from Metro. The guy says, "oh, if it's from Metro it's ready to go," or something to that effect. We sign me up, port my number, and he gives me my SIM. He tells me it'll probably be about 20 minutes or so, and then it'll be active. Sure enough, 20 minutes on the button and my phone bars on my iPhone with Metro switch to "no service". I pop in the new T-Mobile SIM, and it starts doing it's configuration -- and then stops to tell me that my phone can't work on the desired network. It's locked to MetroPCS's network, even though that's also T-Mobile, because they're the same goddamned company. So I head back to T-Mo's store and they check a few things and sure enough, the employee should have checked the unlock status before going through with it. No problem, I'll just get my money back and go to Metro for another month. And that's the issue: My number already ported, so I'll have to set up a brand new account, pay a brand new activation ($15) and everything, and re-port my number, which can take up to two days. In addition, I can't get a refund from T-Mobile, because they don't have a way to do refunds on pre-paid plans! So I call Metro, and they won't unlock the phone, even though they admit that the information I got was correct. Some phones will work on T-Mo without and unlock, it seems, but mine won't, and they can't make an exception for me. So that $40 (plus tax!) I spent at T-Mobile is burnt -- if I port my number back, it cancels my plan, and that's that. No refunds. Plus I've gotta pay $60 for my original plan (+$15 activation!) to move back to Metro, which sucks in my area, anyway. The third choice is this: If I can get a third party unlocker to unlock my phone, T-Mobile will credit me on my next month's bill up to $20. That would be great. So, my question is, who knows of some $20 legit iPhone unlocking services? I've never had to use one before, and frankly they all look rather janky, but I know some people have had success with them. | When connected to external monitor and keyboard, mac needs to be unlocked three times to work Posted: 15 May 2019 04:52 PM PDT I have a persistent problem with my Mac which, while not really a deal breaker in any way, kind of bothers me because it seems totally inexplicable. So, my configuration is this: MacBook Pro (15 inch, 2017, 10.13.6) connected to external 4K monitor (Samsung UH750 28" ) with displayport cable and USB C adapter. I also have latest bluetooth trackpad and older model, but still bluetooth Apple keyboard. And it all works just fine. With one exception. When I wake up the mac after screen went black, it prompts me for password (that's a configuration mandated by my employer that I can't change). So I enter password. Seconds later though, screen goes black again. I enter password again. Same thing happens, I wake the screen and enter password the third time. And then it works fine. Sometimes it happens only once. Sometimes screen goes black even before I finished entering password the first or second time. Sometimes nothing happens, after first attempt it just works. It never, ever happened more than twice; in other words, I only need to enter the password one, two, or three times, never four. So, it's not that bad. But, WHY??? What could possibly be a reason for such weird behaviour? Also, nothing like that ever happens without external monitor. However, when I don't use external monitor, I don't use external keyboard or trackpad either, so I can't say for sure if this is caused by monitor or keyboard/trackpad. [link] [comments]  |

| Replaced Iphone XS Max loses battery way faster Posted: 15 May 2019 04:04 PM PDT Hi there, I got an iphone XS Max for Christmas this year and about a month later the phone died so I had to get it replaced (under Apple's warranty). When I asked the clerk, he wouldn't tell me if the replacement was new so I assume it is a refurbished phone. When I got it (in late January), I immediately noticed when charging the phone the back would get burning hot, whereas the original one I had did not have this problem. A few weeks later, the battery stopped holding a charge like it used to. With the original one and the replacement for the first few weeks, I was able to use my phone all day and have it around 30-40% at night, but now it dies before I get to bed. When I look at the battery health setting, it says my battery is 100%. I did not change any settings or download and large apps in the between period that would be draining my battery. I think I am no longer on Apple warranty, but is there anything I can do about this? I suspect that the problem is that I was given a refurbished replacement which has a bad battery. | Apple Magic Trackpad 2 on Windows 10 Posted: 15 May 2019 03:52 PM PDT So I got the opportunity to get a magic trackpad 2 recently, and after unboxing it and getting it set up I realized I can't scroll or right click with the trackpad, just move around and click. It feels great though, way better than the trackpad on my laptop, and want to unlock functionality for this thing on my Windows 10 PC. I ain't getting a Mac anytime soon as my main work computer, so if this doesn't work I could always go for a windows external trackpad. (something I didn't realize existed before I got the MT2.) But I really like this one and don't want to lose it just yet. I did a little research, but the only thing that I could find was a piece of 3rd party code from Github, but the installation instructions don't seem to even have the files in the folder they had me download. https://github.com/imbushuo/mac-precision-touchpad Any help would be appreciated. | Connecting 2012 MBA to 2560x1080 Monitor Posted: 15 May 2019 09:08 AM PDT I have gotten an LG 29WK600 monitor and a 2012 MBA, according to the specs this should be able to support a display up to 2560x1600 however I cannot get it to work even when using SwitchRes. I have tried Mini displayport to DP and also MDP to HDMI, neither will give me a proper 2560x1080 resolution on the monitor, I am given the image attached. When connecting via the MDP to DP the laptop seems to think it is outputting at 2560x1080 but as you can see it is not displaying correctly. https://i.redd.it/uw1ff09lfey21.jpg Has anyone encountered similar issues? | Help using iPad/iPhone combo with Facetime. Posted: 15 May 2019 02:56 PM PDT I use an iPad to link with customers at a sister business. I have my icloud attached to my phone and iPad. When at work, on the same wifi, they both with ring when a call comes in . I take the phone home in case people need to Facetime me. I recently learned they have attempted to contact me after hours and my phone did not ring. Today I went "on-site" and called back to my office. I had the iPhone on me "on-site." The iPad at my work rang fine and was answered. The iPhone stayed silent. Any ideas on how I can receive Facetime calls after hours with this method? [link] [comments]  |
