Posted: 09 May 2019 10:35 PM PDT Hello, I'm planning to buy the new MacBook Pro 15" with the i9 processor and 32 GB RAM which I'll mostly use for work - development on a giant Ruby on Rails project + elastic search and all that. I currently use the i7+ 16 GB machine and it's been running slow for a while. I saw a ton of articles that said the new i9 MacBooks heat up a lot but also read that Apple fixed this later using an update. My question is: is it OK to buy the i9 MacBook now? Do they still have heating issues or any other issues that I should be worried about? If so, should I look buying the i7 32GB version instead? PS : Cost difference Of i9 vs i7 isn't an a factor, since my employer will be buying the machine. [link] [comments]
Thinking of selling my 2016 MBP for a 2015 model Posted: 09 May 2019 08:13 AM PDT I've had both the keyboard & display replaced on my 2016 MBP for defects. Prior to this I had a 2012 that never needed service. Based on my experience & that of others, the longevity of the 2016 MBP is questionable mostly in regards to the keyboard. My biggest regret with this machine was leaving it at 8GB of ram & 256gb of storage. I could really benefit from doubling both of those and I was thinking of "downgrading" to a 2015 13" retina model, most likely with the 3.1GHz i7. This would give me a more reliable machine, more ram, more storage, more speed, at little cost to me. Are there any flaws in my logic? TIA [link] [comments]

How bad is the keyboard issue? Posted: 09 May 2019 01:04 PM PDT We're in a bit of a dilemma on what to do with a couple of laptop purchases and could use some honest advice here. I have an apple business account already and use both PC and mac. I recently ordered an XPS laptop instead of going with the macbook pro due to cost and concern with the keyboard issues that we keep reading about. We'd be happy with the XPS but the order process has been plagued with issues and mistakes and the customer service has been down right abysmal with Dell. I'll be returning the XPS by next week most likely unless someone higher up over there actually helps us out, but not sure if I should just wait until the fall for a revised macbook pro although that's not ideal because we need to order 2 laptops in the next month or two. I know things can get over exaggerated online when reading reviews and reddit so I'm hoping the keyboard problem is not as prevalent as it sounds. Thanks in advance for the help! MacBook Air or MacBook Pro? Bootcamp? Posted: 09 May 2019 01:03 PM PDT So I'm considering on getting a MacBook but I don't know which one to get. Does the air have enough power to do programming? Also is there any specs (ram,storage.etc.) that is required to use bootcamp to run windows? [link] [comments]
help with a Macbook pro purchase Posted: 09 May 2019 06:50 AM PDT i'm looking to get a macbook hopefully under $1000 but will spend more or around this if it is necessary. I am going on to film school this year and i'm looking to get a a new macbook for it. Does it need to be a brand new one? What do you guys recommend i get? Are the macbooks on ebay worth getting for school and some basic film editing ? it seems they're older pre-retina macbooks (2010-2014) with upgraded parts. Or am I just better off ignoring ebay/craigslist [link] [comments]
