Quality Program Turns into $550 Posted: 09 May 2019 07:13 PM PDT Hey everyone, just curious to hear any similar experiences and looking for guidance on what to do. So, a couple days ago, the middle of the screen on my iPhone X went dead. The top portion and very bottom of the screen were still responsive. I took it to my Apple store and was told that there is a quality program (which I also saw on their website the night the issue cropped up) and they sent it off to be fixed free of charge. Now, two days later I get an email saying I need to pay $549 or receive the phone back in it's broken condition. Upon further inspection, they found that my moisture sensors have been triggered. Now, I will not deny that they phone has been submerged before. I do it on occasion to clean it off. It's never been submerged for long and I've never had an issue with the phone after being submerged. I know for a fact that the phone hasn't been wet for weeks before the night this issue occurred. Do I have any options here? The way the email was worded made it seem like they think I lied to them about the way the issue began but I'm not. I know that their moisture sensors have a bad rep, so I'm just a little frustrated with the whole ordeal. Thanks in advance for any responses. [link] [comments] |

Do I Need A Disc From 10 Years Ago To Install The OS? Posted: 09 May 2019 01:13 PM PDT MacPro 4,1 (late 2009) Original hard drive was wiped and removed. New hard drive installed. When booting to recovery, it tries to install Sierra, which is supposed to be too new for this machine. It doesn't let me select my disk and tells me I can't run this version (10.12.1). I boot using command control shift r and try again and it does the same thing. I am not sure what disk or OS came on this thing when it was delivered ten years ago. Do I need to buy a physical OS disk? [link] [comments] |
Is there anyway to disable CarPlay and Apple Music? Posted: 09 May 2019 08:36 PM PDT I want to be able to disable these so they don't start automatically when I connect the iPhone 8+ to my car stereo and my headphones. can we disable them or remove them completely. Thanks for your help [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 May 2019 08:20 PM PDT So I have an iPad mini 2nd gen and it's worked great the last few years but recently I've noticed a problem. On certain areas of the left side the touch screen is dead. In the top and bottom left corner of the screen which is where the X button on reddit and back button on the google app are found don't work and I often have to close the app to get back to the apps menu. The number button as well as the one key don't respond and the 2 key as well as the emoji bar are hit instead. I have tried hard resetting as well as updating the software. Does anyone know if this is a hardware or software issue? [link] [comments] |
I can’t figure out how to change the Apple ID on my Apple Watch Posted: 09 May 2019 07:58 PM PDT So, when I got it I was using a university email as my ID but didn't realize access to that mail expires a year after I graduate, which is now. I went and changed my ID so it's different on my phone and laptop but I noticed the watch is still under the old ID Is that something I need to worry about? I thought my Watch was linked to my phone so it would have changed with it but apparently not. I've read that I have to do a factory reset to get it to change but I want that to be my last option. Apple Watch 4 -- SILENT ALARMS for my disability?? Posted: 09 May 2019 10:32 AM PDT PHONE: iphone 6s Plus - iOS 12.2 (soon upgrading to 8, probably) APPLE WATCH: Series 4 (software upgraded yesterday) THE SITUATION: My parents just gifted me an Apple Watch to help with various things for my disability, Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (ex: fall detection!). One of the things I was hoping it would help with is offering silent alarms. Already, on my iphone, I have MANY alarms each day to help with my cognition and memory issues. They're obnoxious and loud for everyone, especially my life partner, who has PTSD/anxiety issues. The ULTIMATE GOAL is to have my phone alarms be silent (or just vibrate), and my Apple Watch be where the Alarm notifications come from (ideally also silently, but through tapping/vibrations). WHAT I'VE TRIED: - turning down the volume of the alarms, but that also turns down the ringer, so I'm worried I'll miss calls - on the Alarm screen, under SOUND, I've clicked "None" (at the bottom) and then made sure the VIBRATION setting is on... I really thought this would work, but it does not. When the alarm goes off, the phone vibrates, but it seems to have turned the Apple Watch Haptics completely off. THE QUESTION: HOW DO I MAKE THE ALARMS I'VE SET ON MY iPHONE GO OFF SILENTLY (USING TAPPING/VIBRATION INSTEAD) ON BOTH MY iPHONE AND THE APPLE WATCH? Am I missing something in the settings? Or is there an app for that? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 May 2019 06:41 PM PDT My computer will not charge. Heres whats happening. I have to plug my Macbook Air into an outlet. When that happens it can turn on and I can use it. When I plug it in though it stays at 18%. It occasionally goes up to 19% but then goes back down. If I unplug it from the charger, it dies instantly. [link] [comments] |
Got a new phone, couple questions Posted: 09 May 2019 06:37 PM PDT I had an iPhone 6s, now I have an iPhone XR, how do I backup just my contacts and notes to iCloud? I don't want it all shared on iCloud since I'm not gonna use the old phone, I actually want them downloaded to my new phone. Just those two. Also, should I be using my phone now or should I be charging it fully first? And can I leave the charger in overnight? [link] [comments] |
Putting screws back on MC724LL/A Posted: 09 May 2019 06:31 PM PDT My early 2011 MacBook Pro (MC724LL/A) started giving me trouble and I discovered it was due to the battery. Got a new one today and sure enough the old one was swollen. Now that I've installed the new one, I'm having trouble getting the screws that go around the battery area to go back it. They want to go in at an angle and then get stuck still sticking out. Is there a trick to get them back in properly? Right now I'm just using it with no bottom, but don't want to do that long term! iPhone 7 struggling, How to check if I have backups? Posted: 09 May 2019 06:23 PM PDT I started getting audio issues so I restarted my iPhone. Wasnt able to get it past the loading apple screen so it turned me to this screen: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203122 After failing to update, iTunes now says I have to restore to factory settings. Is there any way to check when my most recent backup was now that I cant turn on my phone to check under settings? Thanks. [link] [comments] |

2018 MacBookPro running Mojave 10.14.4. Having trouble finding emojis & symbols. Details in text. Posted: 09 May 2019 06:09 PM PDT I don't care much about emojis, but there are symbols I'd like to use. According to this February 2019 Apple Support page I should be able to bring up a "Character Viewer pop-up window" by hitting Control-Command-Space Bar, but when I do that, nothing happens. Also, I've gone into System Preferences>Keyboard and confirmed that "Show keyboard and emoji viewers in the menu bar" is checked, but there's nothing in my menu bar relating to either my keyboard or any emoji viewer. Am I missing something really obvious? (I'm not the most tech-savvy person, but I think I've done my due diligence here.) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 May 2019 05:58 PM PDT So about a week ago my daughter scooped my 93 day old iPhone X in the tub. It may have been submerged for about 3-5 seconds and was immediately dried off with a towel. However, the screen went all kinds of funky colours clearly showing the signs of water damage. I was unable to get it to turn on for the last week but, today it turned on. The screen is completely black though so I cannot see how to unlock it in order to back it up. I did a photo backup a few months back but, lost close to 200 photos of my daughter and around 100 or so from my honeymoon. Aside from that there were a lot of files I would love to get back. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to back this phone up. I know the computer recognizes it as it shows under the USB section of system profile, however I cannot see it in iTunes and I believe its because I have to "Trust this computer". Thank you all for your time in reading this and I appreciate any and all feedback [link] [comments] |
Dry mud stuck in IPhone 6s audio jack Posted: 09 May 2019 05:44 PM PDT I've managed to drop my iPhone in mud and thought that it was fine, as no visible marks were made. Well I tried putting headphones in my audio jack and I heard a light crunch sound. I looked inside the audio jack with a flashlight and saw dry mud caked at the bottom of the jack, I can hear audio fine and my headphones fit in the jack (with some minor adjustments) but I don't want to damage my headphones or the phone! Please help! I've already tried to dig in there with a small metal rod, but I couldn't get anything out and felt I was doing more harm than good [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 May 2019 05:32 PM PDT I have a mid 2011 Mac Mini running Sierra 10.12.6. Is there something I am not aware of that allows me to save videos, or do I need to download a program? Please help, thanks [link] [comments] |
Just upgraded to 50 gig icloud, got a couple questions Posted: 09 May 2019 04:00 PM PDT I'm wishing to store my photos in my icloud and wipe them from my phone, simply to save space and relieve the burden of having to deal with 40 gigs of photos I don't wish to delete. If I delete them all after storing them, will they stay there?? I don't want to lose them, so I am just making sure that deleting the originals won't wipe the rest [link] [comments] |
iWatch Series 2 42mm not turning on. It gets extremely hot on the charger. Posted: 09 May 2019 03:51 PM PDT So I'm not sure what to do. My watch gets wicked hot on the charger. The Apple logo will flash once every 30 seconds or so. I can not force restart it. Any ideas?? Help! [link] [comments] |
How can I tell what the oldest OS I can install on my Mac is? Posted: 09 May 2019 01:37 AM PDT I'd like to upgrade my Mac (an iMac 2017) to Mojave, however I have a few older games (mostly Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour) which are not 64-bit, so won't work after the upgrade. So, I wanted to setup a separate partition with an older 32-bit-compatible OS. I split off 300GB or so and had planned to just install High Sierra (which I'm currently running) and go from there. However, some of my Steam games won't run even under that (specifically, Spec Ops: The Line). So I thought I'd try the oldest possible version that would run on my Mac in case that older version had better backwards compatibility (since I'd only be using it for older apps, don't need the new features). Given it came out in mid-2017, I figured Sierra would be it (High Sierra wasn't released until September, several months after). However, when I tried to run the Sierra installer, I got a message saying it couldn't power my Mac so it wouldn't run. Any ideas on how to install Sierra or something even older? Or am I stuck with High Sierra? How do I know what the absolute oldest version I can run is? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 May 2019 03:31 PM PDT Hi all My left AirPod sort of 'vibrates' when on loud volumes and heavy bass. Just out of warranty and I do drop them from time to time but has come out of nowhere. Any help appreciated :) [link] [comments] |
Iphone XS Max is unresponsive and unusuable Posted: 09 May 2019 03:23 PM PDT Today my Iphone Xs max stopped working properly. it's stuck on the homescreen. However, i am able to move between pages of the home screen by swiping, but i'm unable to open any apps at all. I've been unable to turn off the phone any way I've tried. the only things that i can do is swipe between the home pages, and use 3d touch to bring up the app menu's, but nothing happens if I touch an option on them, however. Does anybody know what I can do to fix this? thanks [link] [comments] |
