    Fall Detection Works Again

    Posted: 20 Feb 2019 08:54 AM PST

This past Saturday I was walking my dog. Here in Western Montana we've been having snow and frigid cold everyday for the last several weeks and there are berms of ice and frozen snow along the streets and at every corner. I was trying to cross one of these berms when I lost my balance on the uneven surface and took a hard fall on the pavement, rolling to absorb some of the impact. I managed to get up and recover my dog when my AW vibrated and chimed. It was fall detection asking me if I was alright. Since I didn't need emergency service, I selected "I'm ok". It was reassuring to know that if I ever had a debilitating fall help would automatically be called. BTW, I'm 80 years old so this is even more important. In the end I had a bruised knee, a cracked rib, and a lot of pain and discomfort across my shoulder blades. But I'll live to walk another day. :-)

    Stainless S3 or Aluminum S4?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2019 04:44 AM PST

I'm looking at getting an Apple Watch for my best friend. I've found a brand new black stainless S3 for $360, but I myself am quite happy with my S4, and I think that it'll last quite a bit longer in terms of updates, but for my current budget, it would have to be the aluminum model. Would the higher build quality and durability of the stainless S3 be worth it for the price, or should I just go with the aluminum S4?

    Sudden spike in move stats?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2019 04:24 AM PST

Has anyone else experienced this? My moves stats are roughly 3 times what they are and have been on average since I first got an Apple Watch 2+ years ago. It's so bizarre.

Series 3 LTE vs Series 4 GPS

    Posted: 21 Feb 2019 04:19 AM PST

I currently own the Series 1 and wanted to upgrade.

I was able to get the Series 3 LTE for a good price. Then shortly after there was an offer for the Series 4 GPS and I took the opportunity as well.

Now I'm unsure which one to keep (got the S3 for 299€, the S4 for about 350€).

I guess the LTE is nice to have, especially for the price. But then again the S4 has the bigger screen, faster too.

    What's your opinion?

Anyone else missing the Veterans Day 2018 Badge?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2019 03:57 AM PST

I don't know for how long it's missing, I only noticed it when the Valentines Day Badge came up, that the Veterans Day Badge is now gone. Watch and phone are both up to date and I also tried to restart both of them multiple times by now, the Badge doesn't show up anymore :(

Apple watch ECG in the UK?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2019 03:27 AM PST

I have read that is could possibly take years to be approved in the UK by the Medicines Healthcare Regulations Agency. Surely this cant be true. Do we have any real idea when it may actually be released? Is the watches ECG already currently undergoing testing by the MHRA?

    Apple Watch for Strength Training

    Posted: 20 Feb 2019 12:10 PM PST

So I have been trying to figure out a good app that works with Apple health reporting workout activity as well as lets me make my own routines at the gym for strength training. JEFIT doesn't submit data to Apple health because they're lazy/dumb so I defaulted to just using the Other option for activity on my watch then specifying strength training when it's done.

My question is, do I pause and restart it each time I'm actually loading weights or just let it run while I work through my routine, including rest times and such?

How do I let my Watch know I'm injured (stitches on the back of heel due to a bad cut) and to stop telling me to stand up and to stop the "Keep it Going" notifications for a while?

[Support] My Wife's Apple Watch Won't Stay Connected to Her Phone!

    Posted: 20 Feb 2019 06:45 PM PST

I couple years back I bought my wife a 38mm Apple Watch Series 1. It was working fine up until about October. Right around the time we upgraded to WatchOS 5, it started randomly losing connection to her phone. It worked fine for the previous 10 months on her iPhone X. Also, nothing else seems to have a problem connecting to Bluetooth on her phone.

If we restart the phone or the watch, generally it will connect back on for a bit. There doesn't seem to be any specific length of time that it will stay connected. Last time it stayed connected for about 4 days, previously it was about 3 hours.

I did the nuclear option and I reset her phone and watch to factory settings and set them both up new (we didn't restore from backup). This fixed it for about a week and a half and it started happening again.

I called Apple support and they basically said "Don't know, probably needs to be replaced."

Any ideas? My Series 0 never had any issues but the S1 is only lasting a couple of years.

Phone: iPhone X 256GB (Latest iOS) Watch: Apple Watch Series 1 38mm (Latest watchOS)
