Is there a way to connect / disconnect a specific bluetooth device from the terminal? Posted: 15 Jan 2019 12:25 AM PST I am constantly switching my headset from my mac to my phone. The process is quite annoying: * disconnect from the mac * go to the bluetooth preferences of my phone * connect to the headset Then, when I want to switch back: * go to the bluetooth preferences of my phone * disconnect the headset * connect the headset to the laptop Even though it is not really a big deal. Is there a way to control the connect / disconnect process of this specific device from a terminal? It would not solve the entire process but smooth it a bit. [link] [comments]
How to get rid of the Flash installer prompt? Posted: 14 Jan 2019 10:06 PM PST I'm pretty sure I've done this before, IIRC it had to do with removing a file from some subdir but I can't remember where. This is the malware that pops up and asks you to update Flash. EDIT: thanks, I disabled it in settings. IDK what triggered it to start asking for updates all the sudden, but it happened right after some malware, so I guessed it to be malware. [link] [comments]
Trouble Installing Google Chrome on Mojave 10.14.2 Posted: 14 Jan 2019 09:24 AM PST I've been attempting to install Google Chrome on a new MBP 2015 running MacOS Mojave 10.14.2 and have not been successful. The googlechrome.dmg file downloads fine (directly from Google's mirror), but after I drag the Google Chrome icon into my applications folder I am unable to run the actual application. The OS copies the files but when I try to open Google Chrome by double clicking the app's icon, I am prompted with the message "Google Chrome is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the trash". I've tried installing on a new Admin account and while in Safe Mode, both of which were unsuccessful. I am able to install other 3rd party apps just fine (Spotify, Discord, etc) but Google Chrome has not worked whatsoever :( Any advice would be appreciated as Apple support couldn't help either. EDIT: solved thanks to /u/ASentientBot - I also performed a completely clean install of Mojave and it installed no problem. Must have been a weird one-off issue. [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Jan 2019 11:28 PM PST Coming from windows it seems really strange that you can install an app, but there is no way to uninstall it without an "uninstaller". An app I just installed doesn't even have an uninstaller... how do I even start to know how to get rid of it? [link] [comments]
Is it just me or is FaceTime on Mojave an absolutely awful UX experience? Posted: 14 Jan 2019 10:12 AM PST There is no favorites list, when searching for a user from your contacts it lists every way to contact them, doesn't differentiate or even list which phone number goes to where. The numbers listed are inconsistent with the formatting in Contacts (some are spaced in AP format, others with periods). It takes forever to find someone in the list of every call made and received. When you go into group chat it becomes an entirely different app. What's going on with this, it's terrible! [link] [comments]
Safari 12 element blocking extension? Posted: 14 Jan 2019 12:32 PM PST I'm looking for an extension to block custom elements from a website in Safari 12. First I should note that I'm not talking about ad blocking specifically, though I'm certainly not against ad blocking being included. For ad blocking, I'm currently using Wipr, which has been great for ad blocking specifically. However, it (purposely) does not have the ability to block custom elements. I want to be able to block elements that I get distracted by (such as the comments sections of my favorite news sites). I know of several extensions that can do this, but they are all the legacy style extensions. I'm hoping for one that fits Apple's new standards so that I'm sure it's regulated well, and won't go missing should Apple completely disable these extensions in the future. Lastly, it does not need to be free. I'm more than happy to pay if it's good. [link] [comments]
Office365 Contacts show Birthdays one day late Posted: 14 Jan 2019 07:59 PM PST Im at the end of my rope with what is up and how to fix it, but Im hoping someone out there can shed some light on it. So tonight I went in, and made a contact in the Office365 Outlook website. Jack Tester. Birthday on Wednesday the 16th. Address book on Mac, updates - shows as the 17th. What in the.... Fliqlo screensaver has unusual CPU activity Posted: 14 Jan 2019 07:43 PM PST I recently downloaded the screensaver Fliqlo from https://fliqlo.com I really like the look of it, however I'm beginning to notice some unusual behaviour. I noticed my MacBook's fans spin up when the screensaver starts. Looking at iStat Menu's history, there is a weird up and down spikes of CPU usage every 1 minute while screensaver is in use. It seems unnecessary, given how minimal and basic this screensaver is. I don't know if they are related, or completely different to be honest, but the version numbers advertised on each website is different. Is there anyway I can look further into what is causing this screensaver to have this behaviour and has anyone else noticed something similar? [link] [comments]
Need help upgrading 10.12.6 => Mojave latest Posted: 14 Jan 2019 07:41 PM PST I can't find a DL link for 10.13 High Sierra Looking here: https://support.apple.com/downloads/High%2520Sierra App store app just keeps crashing, [link] [comments]
My Mac Won’t download Mavericks 10.9.0 Posted: 14 Jan 2019 12:05 PM PST So far I've upgraded to 10.6.8 from 10.6.6 because I had to do that to download el captain, but to download captain I need to first upgrade to 10.9.0. But I've been having to use combo updates because my Mac won't update properly from settings or the AppStore. Apple Support have little to no help for me to solve this issue so I came to reddit for help. The combo update for 10.9.0 was taken down by apple from their website for who knows what reason. If anyone needs me to answer any questions you need to know to help, please feel free. [link] [comments]
Time and Date Settings Killed Google... Weird Bug Posted: 14 Jan 2019 11:39 AM PST Hi there, I had a search through this sub and couldn't find anything specifically related to the issue I was having, but if I missed something useful and someone can direct me that'd be great. I cracked open my Mac today and tried to access google via Safari. I kept getting an error message saying 'unable to establish connection'. After a bit of trial and error I installed Firefox to see if it had the same problem (or a more useful error message). Firefox also failed to access any Google service, but did tell me why - the certificate wouldn't be valid until the 19th of December... 2018. So I checked my date settings and low and behold, it was December 15th last year (did I discover time travel?) I manually set the time, and was able to access google services. But I'm concerned - is this a known bug? Anything I should do? I'd like my time and date to be accurate as possible and not set manually ideally. On Mojave, FYI. Cheers Edit: Solved - thanks both for your comments. Thought best to consult people smarter than I before panicking. My laptop battery had died previously to experiencing this which explains the problem. Thanks again [link] [comments]
need someone that knows alot about macos desktop workflow relative to w10 Posted: 14 Jan 2019 05:27 PM PST this compares a few things about macos & w10 https://www.pcmag.com/feature/364860/macos-vs-windows-which-os-really-is-the-best dated nov 2018 (most of the things do not matter, and/or are not new info) since you know alot about desktop workflow on macos,
do not know if there's any other actually good macos & w10 comparisons on the web that are recent and up to date, but if you know, then link the helpful info [link] [comments]

Posted: 14 Jan 2019 11:28 AM PST So I accidentally upgraded to high Sierra which broke compatibility with my old logic and Fcp. I decided to wipe all of it, and try to reinstall yosemite from a time machine backup , which isn't working. So I said screw it, got my original install disc, and that isn't working either. Upon clicking the install disc, the machine just displays the gray apple logo and doesn't go anywhere from there. I've let it sit for hours to be sure. Any takers? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Jan 2019 12:29 PM PST Indicating** jesus I should proofread I will be on my PC and randomly get this pop-up, https://i.imgur.com/LAUOR3A.png, which is what i get when you sign into steam on my laptop. But my laptop is closed, and when I open the lid, it doesn't come on right away like it would if I had a program to tell it to "do nothing" when i close the lid. It seems to be going into some weird half sleep mode. I say "half sleep" because it doesn't die as quickly as it would if I just had the lid open...like it will last for a day or two, but it should last much longer than that with the lid closed. I do I have a program called Caffeine that I use to keep it from sleeping sometimes, but that doesn't have any power over what happens when the lid is closed. I had a program called "NoSleep" that I used for a bit where i had it set to "do nothing" when I closed the lid. That has since been removed, and as I said, the battery still lasts 2-3 days, which definitely wouldn't happen if it just wasn't going to sleep. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Best one time payment anti virus for MAC? Posted: 14 Jan 2019 10:16 AM PST I like the idea of an anti virus with one time payment and no subscription. I feel like we already have so many subscriptions for everything and if we can remove a few in our lives that would make it much easier! [link] [comments]
Can't tag files on external disk? (error code -36) Posted: 14 Jan 2019 10:14 AM PST Due to limited space on my main disk, I keep a lot of important files on a general backups disk, separate from my Time Machine backups disk. For example, I pre-process pdfs so they load faster on my Mac and load on my Kindle. I often keep the originals on my general backups disk, especially for personal scans, paid pdfs, and hard-to-find pdfs. I only copy the processed versions into my Calibre Library on my main disk. I try to use both written and colored tags to keep track of different versions of the same file. For example: (Calibrized) and a red tag if I've imported that version into Calibre. (Logged) and an orange tag if I've logged it but not imported. (Skipped) and a gray tag if I've skipped it and plan not to import it. Just a green tag if I've skipped it because it's a map, image, etc. which won't properly show on my Kindle anyway. Just a blue tag if I've processed it but not done anything else with it. When this works, it's easy to see the status of my libraries, and if I've forgotten an important file. But for some reason I keep getting error code -36 when I search, and try to tag files from the search results! "The operation can't be completed. An unexpected error occured (error code -36)."
