Have to Manually Enter DNS Server For Each Unique Wi-fi Connection. Any solutions? (Mojave) Posted: 11 Oct 2018 10:40 PM PDT This has been an ongoing issue with my Macbook Pro 2017 (Mojave 10.14) for several months and I can't seem to find a solution for it. Whenever I connect to a unique Wi-fi connection, I have to manually enter the DNS server for that respective modem. Without manually entering the DNS server address, I would be connected to the Wi-fi but would receive no data download or upload. For example if I go to my friend's house and connect to their Wi-fi, it won't work unless I manually enter the DNS server for their modem if they're with a different ISP. Prior to this issue appearing, I would have no problems connecting to a network and having it work right away. Is there anyway to fix this so that I can connect to the internet without having to look up and manually enter the DNS address for any networks I haven't previously connected to in the past? Posted: 11 Oct 2018 10:31 PM PDT As the title states, I'm looking for an app/website that will allow me to copy and paste large essays / articles and convert them to speech/MP3 file with a somewhat realistic voice. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Macos Mojave or High Sierra? Need help asap. Posted: 11 Oct 2018 02:48 PM PDT So i just bought an early Macbook Pro 2015 13". And i'm so happy with the purchase, however it came with old Macos El Capitan so it's kinda slow. So I thought the obvious thing is to update to a newer Macos release, in this case, Macos Mojave. But i heard that people are having issues where there Macs will get slower and other battery and performance problems. So my question is, should I update to Mojave? Is it better now and runs smooth? Or should i go withe older Macos High Sierra ? Really need help since i have to update as quick as possible. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Situation with font rendering on macOS Mojave and external displays, need advice Posted: 11 Oct 2018 05:30 AM PDT So Apple just made my old Dell U2312hm totally unusable. Fonts look incredibly bad. And I've tried all those options to change grayscale antialiasing, disable it completely, tried things like:
While some of those may yield better results than the default state, it's still not good as it was. Things are blurry yet sometimes harsh along the edges. Everything looks slightly better than fresh installation of xorg on Arch. Yet on my Retina MacBook screen things are fine. So I decided to ditch trusty Dell and invest in some new monitor, 27". But now the thing is should I save some money and go with 1440p or cash out 4k. I know the differences, scaling, HiDPI mode scaling, etc etc, I googled all of that. But what I need to hear is how's the situation with 1440p 27" screens on Mojave? Did change of pixel and font rendering affect those screens and in which way? I mean I know that with 4k I could scale it to 1080p like screen real estate having that nice HiDPI, but what If I go for 1440p like screen real estate on 4k 27" monitor, will it look blurry? I look at the text on my computer all the time, and I really don't want to use those bitmap fonts, it's a sin to use them on Retina display. Do you have any advice what would be the best thing to do in my situation? I don't need some ultra high PPI, I just want thing to look reasonable for coding and doing productivity. Posted: 11 Oct 2018 05:41 AM PDT About every 1 in 20 or so page loads safari will stall for about 30 seconds then say "safari can't open the page because the server where this page is located isn't responding". Doesn't seem to ever happen on chrome or firefox. Still happens with all extensions uninstalled. I think it may be related to the router because this wasn't happening at home before I moved to my new apartment for college. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this issue before or if anyone has ideas for how to go about fixing it I'm on Mojave and originally noticed the problem on one of the Mojave betas but only when I moved to my apartment I should note that after the "not responding" message displays I can usually attempt to reload the page it will load properly. This person seemed to be having the same problem: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8470426 [link] [comments]

Posted: 11 Oct 2018 10:13 AM PDT Seems to be noted around the web that Safari 12 is available for Sierra (10.12) as well as High Sierra and Mojave, but Apple says just check the App Store for updates. But my App Store updates list doesn't include Safari. I'm on Safari 11/Sierra. Anyone else? [link] [comments]
why can't I drag files into an alias folder when it's in the finder sidebar? Posted: 11 Oct 2018 08:05 AM PDT I don't like that the music folder is called "music", because I put lots of stuff in it that isn't music. I use the "downloads" folder more as a temporary space, so I would prefer to name it e.g. "temp". but because macOS doesn't let me rename these folders, I made aliases to these folders with the names I want. normally, I can drag files into these aliases. e.g. if there's an alias to ~/Downloads on my desktop, when I drag a file into it, it will end up in the downloads folder. however, if I add one of these aliases to the finder favourites sidebar, I can't drag anything into them. is this a finder limitation or is there some different way to do this? (also, if anyone has a better non-hacky way to rename these folders without breaking something, feel free to let me know) [link] [comments] |
