| [Discussion] MacOS and BootCamp Support Posted: 07 Oct 2018 09:15 PM PDT If this comes off as a rant I apologize, but I believe most Mac users can share my frustration. What's the deal with lack of Bootcamp support for MacOS? I recently acquired a Late 2013 MBP 15" Dual Graphics after having my 2012 15" Spec'd out OG MacBook Pro stolen last December. I've been trying to run Windows 10 natively through Bootcamp but the Apple Support Updates are so outdated that its appalling. It seems like they haven't been updated since before the APFS rollout a la El Captain. -There's still no support for APFS file format through Windows and I would rather not rollback to HFS+. Apple has yet to release their "read-only" support for APFS file format system. -Startup disk volumes are totally unrecognized in Windows. The Bootcamp Utility is so outdated it still says "Restart in OSX". I have to usually reset PRAM and reassign through MacOS to fix my EFI, especially when forced to delete partition. -Uninstall and reintegration of partition through MacOS Bootcamp assistant is totally broken and doesn't recognize the Windows partition. You have to manually delete the partition and reallocate it to the APFS container through Disk Utility, which is difficult to the basic user. I've been using Parallels instead to run windows through a VM which has its upsides but is awful for wanting to run graphics intensive software. I've had to call Windows support multiple times for SLUI support because my Legit key was lost due to moving from partition to VM and Windows wouldn't recognize my copy as being not he same hardware. I've called Apple Support to report these issues several times, even speaking with two Senior Tech Advisors (their normal tech advisors acted like I was speaking a foreign language), and they all sounded surprised about this issue, claimed to take note of it, and went about their day. Has anyone had any luck with workarounds for this compatibility issue? Any third-party support or updates? I greatly appreciate any info! Edit: Grammar [link] [comments]  | ||
| WTF happened with all the dictionaries in Mojave??? Posted: 07 Oct 2018 09:24 PM PDT I just upgraded from High Sierra to Mojave last night. Not a beta version. And woala all of the Oxford dictionaries, English, German, Thesaurus; all disappear!! I'm really really mad. This is more like a downgrade rather than an upgrade. EDIT: Ok for the record, I did check /Library/Dictionaries. I did check the Preferences of the app itself. Nothing except Wikipedia. EDIT: Lol I fixed it by turning it off and on again. Trying to boot camp windows 10 on my late 2015 27" iMac and boot camp yells at me that i don't have enough space free and i need 40 GB. So after a few hours of trying things from r/bootcamp i've come to the conclusion that i have significant filesystem errors and i need to throw in the towel. I've deleted about 100GB of stuff manually and my free space is unchanged at best. Below is a dump of fsck_apfs and its a mess. Two recovery boots/disk utility first aid runs and its not fixing anything. Any ideas? | High Sierra installation stuck after reboot at grey Apple logo with installation progress bar Posted: 07 Oct 2018 10:10 AM PDT I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro that has been running Mavericks until a week ago without any problem. Then suddenly it began to freeze for 30sec/1min for no apparent reason, over and over. I wanted to try a clean install of the OS, but App Store couldn't download Mojave nor a full installer of High Sierra, so I just ran the ~20Mb High Sierra not-clean install. After 22 hours the installation seemed stuck, I hard-rebooted it, wiped the disk clean and re-installed the OS from recovery mode. After 4 hours it finished installing, rebooted and now it seems stuck at the grey Apple logo's screen, with progress bar at about 50% and "Installing. Time remaining 15 minutes" (i don't know if English text is exactly like that, I have the Italian version). Is it normal that this phase takes so long? How long should I wait before I declare it definitely stuck? Could it be a sign of bad hard drive or other hardware problems? [link] [comments]  | ||
