HDMI switcher and non-Apple usb-c to HDMI malfunctioning since Mojave update

    Posted: 03 Oct 2018 06:06 PM PDT

    Hi,

Does anyone having issues with non-Apple USB-C to HDMI adapter and/or HDMI switcher? I have an AV Access HDMI switcher and ICZI USB-C to HDMI adapter. The combination was working perfectly with MacOS High Sierra. But since I have upgraded to MacOS Mojave, these are not working well.

For starter the connection through the USB-C to HDMI adapter turns pink. I tried most of the solutions found on internet (from switching input to NVRAM reset). When I connect through the Apple USB-C to HDMI adapter, it works without an issue. surprisingly, if I downgrade to High Sierra, the non-Apple HDMI adapter starts working again.

secondly, when I connect through the HDMI switcher the picture doesn't show up through non-Apple adapter. If I connect through Apple adapter through switcher, the picture shows, but very grainy/lots of colored pixels. Same way, when I downgraded to High Sierra it started working fine again. Upgraded again only to find same issues again.

Does anyone have any similar issues?

Considering upgrade options for a mid-2009 MacBook Pro

    Posted: 03 Oct 2018 08:04 PM PDT

I used a Pro for several years before shelving it due to a shot battery and seemingly constant freezing and slowdowns. Recently, I broke it back out to clean some old stuff off of it and found that it was still pretty pleasant to use once I did.

I bought and installed a new battery and it seems to be working well, but I'm not sure if I should stop there. Currently, I'm running Snow Leopard and since I don't really plan to get up to anything crazy on this thing, I'm still debating a ram upgrade and upgrading to El Capitan.

Was wondering if anyone else had made any similar upgrades and could provide any feedback.

    MacBook Air water Damaged?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2018 10:38 PM PDT

A friend of mine accidentally spilled some water (about a teaspoon) on the keyboard of my MacAir today. I immediately dried it out by turning it upside down and cleaning it out, however I did not turn it off because I was in the middle of completing a code that was very important for my masters thesis due soon.

About 15 mins later the screen flickered and it restarted, with all the keys working. I have sinced turned it off and in the process of letting it dry out.

Should I be worried about anything? I noticed the Bluetooth functionality was off after it came back on yesterday, is there any chance this works again? Considering it's importance at this phase of my life, how long should I let it sit for?

    Or am I royally f**ked? :(

PS: Most of my personal stuffs are backed up but I'd have to move them to a Windows OS as that's what my lab offers.

    Thanks.

A way to turn mac desktop files (excel, pdf) into windows files in terms of appearance

    Posted: 03 Oct 2018 10:18 PM PDT

    Hey there guys,

I was wondering if there is a way to turn the icons for files (word, excel, pdf) into the basic icons found on a windows computer. I hate the overview thingy, where you see the text in the files in a tiny way.

    Thanks in advance!

Macbook Pro Retina Rubber Grip Replacement?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2018 09:22 PM PDT

My late 2013 Macbook pro has lost 3 out of 4 of its rubber grips on the bottom. At first it was only one that came off, but two suddenly came off today. Google says that it is impossible to replace the grips on the computer without replacing the entire bottom. Are there any better solutions?

WiFi booster (antenna) for 2016 MacBook Pro on Mojave

    Posted: 03 Oct 2018 05:10 PM PDT

I'm looking for a device that enables my MacBook to establish a stable connection to my university's WiFi (eduroam) while being in my flat across the street. I have seen a lot of booster antennas with either 2db or 5db for Windows but none for OSX so far. Is there any solution that is compatible with the MacBook's USB C ports and the new Mojave OS?

I know this is a long shot, but a friend recently passed away and the parents are trying to open her iphone/macbook. Any ideas?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2018 01:05 PM PDT

Apple suggested to try and find the apple id from the macbook if they can open it, but we have no idea how. I found a tutorial that can reset the password, but it clears all the data. I'm still looking for other options so any idea are appreciated (for the iphone or macbook). Also its a macbook pro if that changes anything

Delete and insert keys on touchbar

    Posted: 03 Oct 2018 01:55 PM PDT

Considering a Macbook Pro 13 with the touchbar and I see that you can get a normal function row in both MacOS and boot camp.
But can you get delete and insert keys on there too? I've only found info and images about the F keys and can't seem to find anything else on this. Thanks!
