Apple removing headphone adapter from iPhone 8/8+ Posted: 10 Oct 2018 09:15 AM PDT I work at Verizon and just had a customer buy an iPhone 8. I told them they would get a dongle and was surprised to see it missing in the box. I assumed this was a packaging error as the new XS/XS Max don't come with the dongle. I check the packaging and it now no longer mentions the adapter on the what's in the box section. Looks like if you buy an 8/8+ you will no longer get the dongle. Kinda jerk move to remove something out of the box a year later, but figured prospective buyers should know. Edit: I have just looked at Apple's website "whats in the box" and the iPhone 7/7+ also have had their adapters removed. Basically if you buy a new iPhone, it won't come with the adapter, just the lightning cable headphones. [link] [comments] |
The the Pixel 3 XL makes the iPhone's notch look sleek and stylish Posted: 10 Oct 2018 11:55 AM PDT There are a lot of features, mostly camera related, that I'm really impressed by on the Pixel. But, damn, that notch on the XL is ugly. After watching some one of the keynote yesterday I looked back down at my iPhone and noticed for the first time how slim and the stylish the notch was in comparison. Anyone else have this thought? Apples iPad Pro’s need full desktop Safari experience Posted: 10 Oct 2018 07:51 PM PDT iPads need a fully fledged Safari Desktop web browser, it's not a pro device if you're hindered by the sometimes limited mobile Safari experience. There are a whole slew of websites, some critical; which require a desktop version of Safari to function, and where the iOS Safari "request desktop site" feature isn't effective. This would also bring it up to par with the new Google Pixel Slate, and Surface products, where those users can enjoy a full desktop browser experience. iOS Safari is a beast, and can manage desktop versions of most websites tremendously. However an iPad Pro- in my opinion, should be able to go further, and be able to eat up any task that a desktop browser can. [link] [comments] |

Dear Apple. Please make the iPad Pro usable as a graphics tablet. Posted: 10 Oct 2018 07:51 AM PDT This just seems like a no-brainer. How awesome would it be to connect the iPad Pro wirelessly to your laptop/desktop, mirror your screen on it, and use the Pencil/touch for input? There are products out there like the Wacom Cintiq, and software for the iPad that attempts to do this (but not very well). Just seems like a huge missed opportunity... [link] [comments] |
iPhones weirdly specific battery capacities Posted: 10 Oct 2018 07:46 PM PDT
I was just wondering why Apple has their battery capacities down to such a specific number? Is it because their just more accurately reporting it than other manufacturers or is it because they're squeezing every last amount of space they have for battery which I doubt since other manufacturers fit way bigger batteries in the same space [link] [comments] |
The most obvious function missing from the 1st gen Apple Watch Posted: 10 Oct 2018 12:21 PM PDT Yes, I still have a first-gen Apple Watch. It still works fine and looks great, so I haven't seen a need to get a new one. Ever since the first week that I owned it though, it has been missing one key function that I just assumed was an oversight and they would eventually push an update that would include it. When you walk away from your iPhone, it has an indicator on the watch face to tell you that it has lost its connection, which is helpful. But what about those times you accidently left your phone behind somewhere. I've left the house, the gym, the office, and even restaurants before realizing that I've left my phone. Yes, I am one of a select few with severe memory problems (thanks Multiple Sclerosis... I didn't need those myelin sheaths anyway), but I would think that a little tap on the wrist when the watch loses a connection would be helpful to most who use a tethered Apple Watch. Am I right? Thoughts? Suggestions? [link] [comments] |

Apple to offer some of its original content for free via Apple TV Posted: 10 Oct 2018 01:39 PM PDT |
Why isn't there a web app version of Messages? Posted: 10 Oct 2018 06:34 AM PDT If I'm at work on my Windows machine, I hate having text conversations on my iPhone. I'd much rather use my desk keyboard, which is why my wife and I use Slack in these cases. Why can't Apple include a Messages app in icloud.com for desktop messaging? [link] [comments] |
Please Bring Back Time Travel On Apple Watch Posted: 10 Oct 2018 12:45 PM PDT Coming from S0, S4 is amazing so far but I do miss Time Travel. I use it for selecting future music tracks from the watch face, looking at what's next on my calendar without going into the app, checking future weather, and looking back at my activity progress throughout the day. I was able to do that without going into the individual apps and now it is gone. Apple, please bring it back! [link] [comments] |
Protip: How to make a 360 degree Panoramic picture using the default camera Posted: 10 Oct 2018 09:13 PM PDT Very simple: Walk forward while you are taking the pano. It will make your start location as small as your start frame, so all shots will fit in the frame. I got some nearly seamless shots of 360+ degrees moving maybe 10 feet. [link] [comments] |
When does the review embargo lift for this iPhone XR? Posted: 10 Oct 2018 07:53 AM PDT This is my most interested iPhone so just wondering does anyone know? [link] [comments] |
Performance Difference X vs. Xs because of the 1GB more RAM. Posted: 11 Oct 2018 12:50 AM PDT hey guys, how is the performance difference between these two phones? not sure which one to buy. is there a noticeable performace uplift? How is the X with the 3GB RAM is it often run out if ram? [link] [comments] |
facetime: Extra step announce? Posted: 10 Oct 2018 05:20 PM PDT Anyone else annoyed with the swipe up in facetime just to turn the camera around, change the audio from speaker, bluetooth, etc? They need to put it back, imo [link] [comments] |
[Opinion] App Store Subscription model ruins games Posted: 10 Oct 2018 01:27 PM PDT I've never been much of a mobile gamer. I have 2-3 games of which I bought the ad-free version for a few dollars. [link] [comments] |
USB-C to Lightning cable is thinner? Posted: 10 Oct 2018 01:25 PM PDT I just received a USB-C to lightning cable ordered directly from Apple. For some reason it's noticeably thinner than a cable I've been using for about a year now. Can anyone else confirm this difference in thickness with the newer cables? https://i.redd.it/cpburegh3fr11.jpg [link] [comments] |
Shower thought on expected Apple Glasses, Animoji, and FaceTime. Posted: 10 Oct 2018 06:37 PM PDT I was just thinking about the expected upcoming Apple glasses and how FaceTime would work with them. It wouldn't have a camera in view of your face so a possible solution to that would be to have sensors in the glasses that can track parts of your facial movements to animate an Animoji of yourself to the other person as you communicate. That way you wouldn't need to have your phone out. Since they have added customizable face emoji it would make sense to do it that way. I dunno just an idea. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Oct 2018 01:57 AM PDT Does anyone know if this white box is meant to be in my speaker grille? You can only see it from an angle. [link] [comments] |
