Old ipad2 extremely slow, barely used no apps installed

    Posted: 11 May 2018 12:56 PM PDT

Bought ipad2 7 years ago. Barely used the thing, maybe like 10 times. It stayed in a nice dry closest in a plastic bin for a few years, but it was nice and fast last I had used it.

Recently, I decided to start using it again. Battery was dead of course, but it charged up just fine. BUT HOLY DAMN its slow now. Its constantly freezing, takes like 5 minutes for any apps to open after you click on them, etc.

Any ideas besides buying a new one? I know its 7 years old but I paid $800 for the thing and was hoping to get more than 10 uses out of it.

It has ios 9.3.5 installed which is the Max it can be upgraded to I haven't tried a factory reset yet, but didn't feel the need to because I really only have the base apps installed and no clutter.

    iPad (2018) video frame rate

    Posted: 11 May 2018 12:34 PM PDT

I understand that in the settings for the default camera app, the only frame rate option for videos is 30 fps. Is that a technical limitation, or will it be possible to get 60 fps videos by using another camera app that has a 60 fps option?

Looking for a mind mapping app for iPad!

Any recommedations? It would be nice to have to the following functions - can be exported in pdf format - support pc - easy to use - not laggy

Currently using Lighten, an app developed by X Mind. X Mind's app is so ideal for me but its monthly subscription fee remains unaffordable for students like me.

Can I use my iPad as my main machine for work? Let me tell you about my workflow

    Posted: 10 May 2018 08:57 PM PDT

I am a journalist. That means that I write a lot, I read a lot, and I browse social media a lot every day. Right now I do that on a Windows desktop, I have a MacBook air, and occasionally I've used a chrome book. My iPhone gets a lot of use too obviously. But my main machine right now is a Windows desktop for whenever I am at my office.

I'm interested in using the iPad as either my main machine or one of my main machines (especially when i travel) for a couple of reasons but chief among them the security that iOS offers versus other operating systems. My job requires me to be very security conscious and Apple has done an exceptional job in building a secure operating system.

Security is one thing but actually using the thing every single day for work is another. I have a 2017 9.7" iPad but it seems like the smart keyboard for iPad pros is significantly superior to anything I can get on my device. Is that what you all have experienced? I type articles that can be anywhere from hundreds to thousands of words and so I need something good for that task. Dictation on iPads and iPhones is pretty good in my experience (I'm using it now) but I would still likely need a keyboard because my area of expertise is niche enough that the iPad simply doesn't have the correct vocabulary a significant portion of the time.

I also need to be extremely up-to-date on social media as in my field, like many, that's where news breaks immediately and where I can stay in touch with people. On my Windows machine I use two screens for things like TweetDeck and my RSS Feedly app, but I'm not sure how well this would work on an iPad. There is no TweetDeck app obviously and the Twitter app is slower and less powerful on the iPad. The feedly app on the iPad also seems to be… A little less intuitive and easy to use. But I suspect that there are good iPad apps for Twitter that I am unaware of. Can anyone fill me in?

Basically being a journalist means that I'm a power user in a handful of areas. I realize that people come into this sub Reddit every day and ask can I use my iPad as my main machine. I tried to explain my specific workflow and needs, I'm curious if there any other journalists or people with similar work experiences that use iPads in a serious way for their job.

It won't be the end of the world if I can't make the iPad one of my main machines. But it would be great to be able to add it to my arsenal in a more significant way.

Wait till WWDC or buy now?

    Posted: 11 May 2018 03:00 AM PDT

I am very firmed that I would be buying the iPad 2018 for my consumption. However since wwdc is coming up, would it make a difference to buy the iPad 2018 now or later (since I am not considering the Ipad Pro)? Will the price of the iPad 2018 drop after the WWDC?

Edit: thank you everyone who has replied to my post. I have decided to buy the new iPad with the apple pencil next week and I'm super excited!

    iPad charging time

    Posted: 11 May 2018 12:39 AM PDT

Hello, I just bought a 2017 iPad and I've been charging out of the box right away at 17%. I was wondering how long it usually takes for a full charge because I'm at 4.5-5 hours I think..and it's still not full yet. Is that normal ? Thanks

Is something wrong with my Apple Pencil or iPad Pro, or is it just Notability? (Video is touching Apple Pencil tip to screen in large brush size on a Notability note to demonstrate how odd writing on the screen in Notability is, at least for me)

Attach a USB Keyboard to an IPad

    Posted: 11 May 2018 10:02 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

HERE's my problem: I am currently using a Logitech Keys-to-Go keyboard with my 2017 iPad, and I alove everything about it. The problem I have is it makes my hands hurt after typing on it for more than about 20 minutes. I think it is because it is so thin, so I am thinking of buying a lightning to USB 3 camera adapter from Apple to connect my desktop keyboard to my iPad.

    Has anyone else done this?

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of getting one. Does anyone currently use the case and willing to share the pros and cons?

Will it fit if I use a full display screen protector?

I snagged an IPad Pro 10 inch 256g at microcenter for my mom for her birthday and mothers day for $649. What accessories should I get her? She's not crazy tech savvy.

    iPad 2018 screen with pencil

    Posted: 10 May 2018 10:50 PM PDT

I am thinking of upgrading from my current iPad Air 2, the biggest reason being the tiny 16gb of storage. I will mostly be using it for media consumption but also for writing notes in college. I am strongly considering the 2018 iPad with 128gb but I am wondering if the sound of the pencil on the screen would be distracting to others. I tried it in best buy and I could definitely tell a difference in noise between the noise of this iPad and that of the pro (10.5). Besides this I do not think the air gap is that big of a deal breaker even though I am coming from an Air 2. (I will definitely get the space grey though...)

I also am considering the 10.5" pro, as I can get it refurbished for $550 straight from Apple (only $140 more than the iPad 2018), but I don't know if I need it. Yes the 120Hz display is awesome, and it is more future proof, but I'm not sure it is necessary. I'm just not sure if I want to spend upwards of $700 on an iPad (and pencil (probably refurbished also) + fairly cheap case).

By the way the main reason I'm considering this now is because I have a nearly $500 tax return and my birthday is next week :)

Cannot sync photos w/iTunes to iPad (PC)

    Posted: 11 May 2018 07:21 AM PDT

I've been syncing photos to my iPad and iPhone without trouble for years now, and as a passionate photographer, I've got a LOT of photos and a lot of albums. I have always used iTunes to do this and do not use iCloud for my photos.

I think my issue started with the last iTunes PC update a few weeks ago. I'd added new photos to several albums, did my sync without any apparent problem but then I noticed that the new photos were NOT in the albums on the iPad. I double-checked the folders on the PC and the images were there.

I re-did the sync several times without ever having the new photos transfer to the iPad. (I'm afraid to sync my iPhone.)

Searching all over for a solution I found that deleting the iPod Photo Cache was often recommended as the solution (seems several people are having the problem since the last iTunes update) so I did that.

When I re-sync'd I LOST all the photos on the iPad and none of the photos on the PC transferred to the iPad. All my (one-level deep) photos folders are intact, with all the photos on the PC but I can't get them into the iPad.

I probably shouldn't have deleted the iPod Photo Cache folder.

Anyone else here having the problem? Anyone know of a solution?

(IPad Pro 10.5 with latest iOS, 512gb, and PC with latest iTunes.)

    Thanks for any help.

Screen issue with iPad Pro 10.5.

    Posted: 11 May 2018 07:20 AM PDT

A few weeks back while browsing I observed there is patch on the screen which is brighter than rest of the screen. It is visible on white or light backgrounds only. I see the issue when I scroll but the moment I stop scrolling the screen brightness returns to normal. The spot is an inch above the home button.

Is this normal? Is this a defect? Please help.

2018 iPad vs 2016 iPad Pro 9.7 - same price

    Posted: 10 May 2018 07:48 PM PDT

EDIT: They are NOT the same price. After heeding the advice from R3ddit0rN0t I looked into it more, and those iPP ebay listings are all "like new" and not sealed in a box. The 9.7 iPP refurbished from Apple is $529 vs new 2018 iPad for $429

A new 9.7 iPP 128GB WiFi is about $430 on eBay, which is the same price as a new 2018 iPad of the same capacity.

If you didn't consider the cameras in the comparison, which would you buy given the same cost? iPP has a better screen and 4 speakers, 2018 iPad has a better processor
