Those of you who use Siri on your computer, what do you use it for?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 10:01 PM PST

First, do you work in an office with other people or an office by yourself? My office is kind of on its own but others can hear so I'm always weirded out by asking my computer something.

Second question, whats your average words per minute when typing? I guess what I'm getting at here, is do you use it because its quicker than using the keyboard, or is it just a convenience thing?

Third, (I don't know why I'm numbering these but now I'm here and I might as well continue...) Do you use headphones/AirPods when using Siri or the onboard microphone?

and lastly, title question. What kind of commands do you find yourself using the most? I find myself using Siri on my phone to ask about whether but with the two finger swipe from the side to pull up Today in the notifications bar, I never as Siri on my computer for weather.

Doubleclick in MacOS will not open folders

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 01:34 AM PST

Kind of annoying. Since some days clicking on a folder on my desktop will nop open the folder anymore. Rightclick > open also does not work. I checked my settings in accessibility, clickspeed is average and I never changed it. I am currently on High Sierra, using a bluetooth mouse with my 2011 Macbook Air.

Anyone have an idea what to do here?

HAE taken the macOS Support Essentials 10.x exam and become ACSP certified?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 09:06 PM PST

I'm looking to take the macOS Support Essentials 10.13 to pad my resume and I see from LearnQuest that you can take this test at an Apple Authorized Training Providers (AATP) location.

However when you click register for the exam it directs me to Pearson to purchase it and shows this as listed requirements. Is it possible to take the exam at home with an online proctor?

I apologize if this isn't the best sub to ask this question.

Need an app recommendation to backup/pull data from Android

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 06:49 PM PST

I work in IT, and transferring content from one iPhone to another is easy enough with iTunes, and I use iExplorer when I just need to pull messages/pictures/etc. off a device. What's the best way to transfer a backup from one Android device to another on macOS, and is there an app like iExplorer to just pull data off an attached Android? Free is best, but not opposed to paying for something solid. Thanks in advance!

Access denied after copying folders and files from a shared Samba location into Mac OS and switching to another account.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 04:03 PM PST

    Hello.

I copied folders with files from my Debian oldstable/Jessie's Samba v2.4.2 box (ext4 FS) to Mac OS Sierra v10.12.6 with smb://IPaddress method into Mac OS' shared folder (/Users/Shared), I can access these local copied files just fine. After I switch to another local Mac OS account, I cannot access these copied files in my other local Mac OS accounts? I tried Terminal's chgrp, chmod, and chown but I get permission denied. Same with Finder's method.

What's wrong or am I doing something wrong? :(

    Thank you in advance. :)

Help! I’m in a loop after trying to install MacOS high Sierra. (Came from El Capitan, Mid-2012 MacBook Pro)

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 07:00 AM PST

It just says "macOS could not be installed... The path /System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg to be missing or damaged"

It has one Avalible button which is to reset, which takes me to the Apple chime and lock screen. Once I put in the password again it loads for a bit and just before finishing, it goes to the same screen again.

When I click the logo at the top 3 things appear: Two of which are Restart and Shut down- both lead back to this loop. The third says "startup disk" and upon clicking takes me to a screen that says "choose the system you want to use to start your computer" it only gives the option of "Macintosh HD macOS, 10.11.6" and when I click the only button it takes me right back to the start.

I searched google for a bit and realized that this has happened to many people but many of the resolutions were hard for me to understand since I'm not that good with computers.

Can someone explain to me a way to leave this loop? At this point I don't care about installing this.

    Thank you!

TL;DR- The title + anything I click makes it loop back there.

Help with MBP Overheating and Display issues

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 03:33 AM PST

    Hey Everyone,

I've got a MacBook Pro mid 2012 (non retina), 13 inch with upgraded memory and SSD. Ever since installing High Sierra, my display has been just going black, not shutting down or locking, then comes back on a few seconds later. This is using any app and happens about 20 times a day, sometimes more

I suspect this may have something to do with SMC fan control as unfortunately my MBP overheats and needs the fan levels to be higher to be functional.

Does anyone else have this problem with their machine, and does anyone have any tips to get rid of my issue?

    I've tried resetting SMC already.
