Just got a new MacBook Pro and it was missing this apparently hard to find feature, Three Finger Drag

I'm loving the HomePod with Homekit, but damn, Siri needs to get a lot smarter.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 07:44 PM PST

I've got a Google Home, which I love, but it sounds pretty muffled when it gets louder than 20%. I opted to grab a HomePod, despite personally objecting to how "walled garden" it is. I'll be honest, though, I've never owned a speaker that has sounded this nice before, and on that front, I'm very happy.

But man, you don't truly realize how disappointing Siri is until it's your primary way to communicate with a device. I've gotten very used to having conversational dialog with Google Home, not even just looking up facts and stuff, but allowing the device to figure out my context.

Siri fails at that probably 20-30% of the time. "Hey Siri, set some mood lighting", "Hey Siri, skip the next two tracks." "Hey Siri, turn on my Apple TV", "Hey Siri, turn off the lights in 5 minutes."

Requests like this simply don't work. And this is after having my HomePod for a grand total of one evening.

While I get that first and foremost the HomePod is a high quality speaker (and it really is, damn), but if you're going to include Siri, at least make it somewhat comparable to what Amazon and Google are offering.

I'm really hoping for a significant Siri update with iOS 12 (and parallel releases), because Siri is so much more useful when you have a screen to go along with it. You don't realize how useless it is until it's the only way you can really communicate with your device.

The state of iOS game development, according to the creators of Alto’s Odyssey

I love faceID don’t get me wrong, but I hope in further generations they improve it when you’re in close proximity of the sensor... because when you’re a little close it doesn’t work.

Samsung Galaxy S9 vs. iPhone X: The best of metal and glass

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 09:18 AM PST

Since my country doesn’t have Apple Pay yet. Why am I seeing this ?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 10:04 PM PST

This Apple Pay cash card appears on my wallet one day. But my country still doesn't have Apple Pay support.

Is this mean Apple Pay is coming?

The iOS iTunes Remote app is a living time capsule of older iOS UI design—and everything I wish the current Music app would be.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 05:03 AM PST

The Remote app really hasn't had a UI refresh in years (ever?), and I've read that there's only one or two people working on it, in their spare time. As such, it's a great reminder of how iOS used to be, and I'm shocked at how much better it is than what's there now.

Seriously, go give it a try—particularly on the iPad. It's basically iTunes on the iPad.

Compared to the Music app, I find the Remote UI to be better-organized, full-featured, and it doesn't rely on the UI design trend where there's a ton of white space, with controls hidden behind a swipe (that you somehow have to know exists).

Best of all, it's an actual Music player, not just a giant ad for Apple Music.

I hate to join the Apple-is-going-downhill bandwagon, but I do remember a time when Apple's software was designed to be useful and intuitive, and not just a sales pitch for Apple's services (iCloud, iTunes Music, and the like).

    I miss those days.

what to-do apps are worth the money?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 08:13 PM PST

    hi!

i'm trying to figure out a way to manage my to-do lists.

i don't mind paying, as long as it's 100% worth it - i love wunderlist, but my beloved app is going to be discontinued at some point and i'd like to get used to another app just in case they get rid of the app altogether eventually.

i currently use tick tick and they have a premium option, so i'm trying to see what other people use, to see if that premium is worth it.

i use my lists personally, so being able to share them with coworkers or family isn't really a factor for me.

    my main criteria:

-available on phone and computer (ideally a website, as i would like to be able to see my lists in the web since i just get a new job recently and am not sure if i could download apps to the computer, but i also could use an app on my mac at home)

-an app that supports dynamic text would be wonderful! i have my phone set to bold and bigger text

-doesn't have to integrate with my phone calendar, but if i could see my to-dos in a calendar view, that would be good

-color-coding is amazing and priority levels would be great

-apps that allow notifications (location services isn't a huge factor for me)

    -attachment options (ie: google drive)

-functionality takes precedent over beauty, but pretty, functional apps are preferable

please let me know what you use! :D

HomePod needs its own trigger phrase

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 10:24 PM PST

I'm thoroughly impressed with how well HomePod picks up my voice, but the amount of times my watch (Being much closer obviously) intercepts "Hey Siri" when I want to change the volume, find out how much time is left on a timer on the HomePod, etc. is mildly frustrating. It really needs its own trigger phrase like "Hey HomePod" in addition to "Hey Siri" for interactions that are aimed at it specifically.

How to stop purchases being directly charged to Organizer on a Family Sharing plan?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 10:17 PM PST

I've been googling this for the past 20 minutes but haven't been able to find an exact answer. I am the Organizer of my family's plan and my siblings continue to buy stuff (they aren't children, 17 & 19) and I'm constantly being charged. Is there a way to stop it from charging me but instead charge their own personal credit cards? I'm worried if I turn Purchase Sharing off, they won't get the Apple Music family plan I bought. And they aren't kids so I can't put them on a child lock. Please help!

My Series 3 Watch has a rectangular gray cloud in the middle of the screen at all times. Anyone else had this? Should I try to exchange?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 01:48 PM PST

Like the title says. I've been an Apple Watch wearer since day one, and never seen this before. My current Apple Watch is a stainless steel Series 3, w/ LTE. It has a gray rectangular smudge in the middle of the screen, at basically all times, and it's had the smudge since the first month I owned it.

The shape of the smudge makes it seem like either a manufacturing defect, but it's definitely a small one — more of an aesthetic annoyance than anything else. Has anybody else seen this problem? And is this something Apple would do an exchange for?

EDIT: Looks like at least one other person has the same problem. My Watch looks exactly like this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8188052

I have a iPhone SE, but just cracked the screen! What are the latest rumors on the SE2? Should I hold out or get a 8 and a series 3 watch, which is my second option?

Switch sim to a new phone but texts are still being sent to imessage.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 09:23 AM PST

I temporarily had an iphone but never registered an apple ID to it. I had it until I received a Samsung S8 and planned to give the iPhone to my girlfriend. I switched the sim to the S8 but if anyone with an iphone texts me, it still gets sent through imessage. I can't find a way to fix it when I searched. Anyone know a solution? Or do I need a new sim entirely?

Possible to mimic "back" gesture through Accessibility?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 09:49 PM PST

I have Accessibility turned on on the iPhone X because I'm usually one handed a lot (cue the jokes). My right hand is usually at the bottom right and I can't reach to pull down for the control center or notifications. Accessibility solves these problems.

The one thing I can't figure out is how to mimic the edge swipe from left to go back to the previous screen that most apps support. Tried recording an AssistiveTouch gesture but it doesnt result in any action.

Is going "back" possible with Accessibility?

    MacBook Pro popping

    Posted: 25 Feb 2018 09:46 AM PST

I have a 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar that makes a loud pop every time I pick it up. It sounds like its coming from the bottom side near the display hinges. Is this pretty normal?
