    Apple Macbook MacBook Face detection?

    MacBook Face detection?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 08:50 PM PST

I have a macbook pro (Early 2015). I feel like this computer is doing a bit of face detection.

Every time I turn my face away from the screen and look at my phone lying on the table or bend over the floor, the brightness drops 2-3 points. every time.

Is it happening because of change in sunlight inside the room? Is it just a coincidence? or is it really detecting if my face is towards the screen?

Try and fix my mid 2012 MBP or time for a new one?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 04:30 PM PST

Hey guys, trying to figure out what the best option would be here.

Situation: I'm a web developer and graphic designer. I am on my MBP, on average, 8-10 hours per day. I have Photoshop running almost always along with 2 internet browsers, an HTML editor, etc.

Current MBP: 13-inch, Mid 2012 with a 2.9 GHz i7 processor, 8 GB of memory, 750 GB storage

I've been having some major issues with it lately...start up time has been 10 mins or so for the past year. Folders take at least a minute or two to show the files contained within them. It can take up to 20 seconds just to control + c something.

I was thinking of upgrading the 16 GB RAM but am not sure if that will solve my issues. My memory pressure is usually always green although I do hit red on occasion.

I still have about 150 GB of free space and can free up more if that would help.

Basically, I don't want to waste $150+ on upgrades if they aren't going to help. Is it too old to fix or do you think it's worthwhile trying?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

MacBook Air 13 freezes on boot with SD card installed.

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 01:27 PM PST

I've recently purchased a new MacBook Air 13 (2017) and anytime I boot up with an SD card installed it freezes on the login screen. I'd like to permanently leave it installed. Anyone ever have the same issue? If so, what was your fix? (I know....just take out the SD before boot)

    2018 Wish List

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 12:36 PM PST

32GB Memory - I virtualize on my Laptop a lot, this would help a lot.

8th/9th Generation CPU - My 6th generation SkyLake TouchBar MBP seems to have a lot of unnecessary hangs.

7000 Series Aluminum - I barely bumped my Mac into my counter top the other day and behold it still dinged it. The 7000 series is much stronger.

    8GB v 16GB RAM

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 01:53 AM PST

I'm getting the latest MBP and was wondering if 8GB of RAM would be enough for the next 4-5 years or should I get the 16GB?

I use the laptop for mostly photo editing in photoshop and design with inDesign.

    Upside down display and mounting

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 09:00 AM PST

I was wondering whether a MacBook Pro (13 inch mid 2014) would have any problems being mounted upside down on a camper-van ceiling, effectively acting as a flip down TV screen.

Would this cause any internal problems, and also how would I go about flipping the display 180 degrees?

    Thanks for any advice.

2015 MBP Freezing - loud fan noise

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 08:33 AM PST

My MacBook Pro has been freezing quite often and seems to be getting worse. I used compressed air to blow out the fan, but it doesn't seem to have helped.

The frequency of freezing seems the most frequent when trying to play video through the HDMI output into either my HDTV or 28" monitor.
    updated additional info

    • Processor Type: Intel Core i5
    • MPN: A1502
    • Memory: 16GB LPDDR3 SDRAM 1866 MHz
    • Release Year: Early 2015
    • Processor Speed: 2.9 GHz Processor Type: Core i5 (I5-5287U)
    • Screen Size: 13in.
    • Hard Drive Capacity: 120GB
    • Video: Iris Graphics 6100 Integrated
    • Model No. A1502

The frequency is also higher when playing videos either on the external monitor or just on the laptop's screen.

Whenever it freezes, the fan noise increases greatly, but about 50/50 on just locking up vs. giving me a black screen with white error text.

    Any ideas would be appreciated!

    MBP 15' 2012 Non-Retina for Game Programming

    Posted: 23 Jan 2018 07:03 AM PST

I'm thinking of selling my mid-range windows laptop for a 15' 2012 MBP with the following specs:

    • i7 @ 2.3ghz

    • 8gb ram

    • 240gb ssd (might do a second ssd and remove the cd drive)

    • nvidia 650m 1gb + intel hd 4000

    I have a similar windows pc (i7 @ 2.6ghz, 8gb ram, gtx 920m, ssd).

Would things like Unreal Engine, Unity 3D and even maybe some video editing work well compared to my windows machine?

I may be getting one for $300USD if the price matters. Can sell this one for about the same or a bit lower.
