I really wish macOS menu bar would display a full calendar when clicked. Posted: 23 Jan 2018 09:47 AM PST Every time I need to do a quick day/date check, I am met with this frustration. In Windows, clicking the clock yields this, which is immensely more useful than what we currently have. Instead you have to open up the calendar app (which is terrible). I really wish it was different. [link] [comments] |

Face ID faster after new update! Posted: 23 Jan 2018 02:54 PM PST Before this update that little globe on top would twirl for a second or 2 before unlocking my phone with my face, now that little globe is gone and the phone unlocks faster! [link] [comments] |
PSA: Today's macOS update (10.13.3) nuked my MacBook Pro Posted: 23 Jan 2018 12:20 PM PST Base 2016 15 inch MacBook Pro here. Downloaded the update, just like every other update, rebooted, got this. Tried restarting. Ran the diagnostic tool (it said my machine was fine). Cleared NVRAM and PRAM. Nothing. Currently in the process of reinstalling macOS from scratch. Thankfully, I use cloud storage, so I'm not losing any critical data. EDIT: I'm back up and running. Thanks for all the downvotes, because god forbid I say something bad about macOS. EDIT: This guy says it's a known problem and offers a solution ... but by the time he told me, I had already reformatted my machine, so I can't verify whether or not it works. Still, worth a try! Posted: 23 Jan 2018 01:34 PM PST Is Apple treating Apple Maps as an abandoned product? Maps in many large cities are outdated by as much as 4+ years.(if no more) When the Interstate 11-mile extension opened a few miles from me back in 2013, it showed on Google Maps within a month. As of today, Apple Maps on my iPhone still doesn't show it. :( [link] [comments] |

What’s going on with the iMovie for iOS and the iPhone X Posted: 23 Jan 2018 01:05 PM PST I don't use iMovie often and today I opened it on my iPhone X and I realized that is not updated for the X screen. Is this a joke? Are you telling to me that a first party app is not supported yet after more than a month of the release? How Apple can encourage to developers to update their apps if they didn't even do it? That's pathetic. Sometimes Apple do things unexplainable to me. [link] [comments] |

Happy 13th Birthday to the Mac Mini Posted: 23 Jan 2018 06:26 AM PST Yes, I know many of us are quite dissatisfied with the current state of the Mini and the lack of modern components. However, as someone who has owned about a dozen of them over the years, I am definitely thankful Apple decided to initially invest in the engineering to create these capable little devices. A 2012 Mini with a 256 GB SSD / 512 GB 5400 RPM combination (one for Mac OS, one for Time Machine), 16 GB of RAM, and about 24 TB hanging off the USB ports is my main machine. It drives two daisy-chained Thunderbolt Displays, it hosts 1,000+ movies and 2,500+ television shows for the three Apple TVs in my home. It is a workhorse, it stays running all day long, gets rebooted weekly, even hosts Time Machine for my laptop. I have a similarly spec'd 2012 Mini at Mom & Dad's 1,000 miles away. It has a complete off-site backup of all of my content, it also hosts the same movies and TV shows for their three Apple TVs, finally it does Time Machine backups for my mother and my niece. I also have an "ancient" 2010 Mini, which when spec'd with an SSD and 16 GB of RAM, runs Mac OS 10.13 just fine. [link] [comments] |
