| iCloud/contacts not syncing on macOS High Sierra Posted: 01 Jan 2018 08:55 PM PST My iCloud contacts has stopped syncing on macOS High Sierra (10.13.2). I've turned off Contacts under iCloud in System Preferences, restarted, even tried doing the same thing in Safe Mode. No matter what, Contacts show old contacts and won't sync properly. What should I do, short of turning iCloud off and back on? I've got 25k photos that will re-sync all over again if I turn off iCloud and back on, which will be incredibly long on my slow Wi-Fi connection. iCloud contacts sync properly on my iPad, iPhone, and iCloud.com. | Apparently not owning an app I purchased Posted: 01 Jan 2018 10:00 PM PST Ok so I just bought this 7 dollar game called crashlands. I immediately download it and proceed to put my phone away from me and play some zelda while it downloads. When I return, it says "crashlands is unable to be downloaded at this moment" or something like that. I try to download it again, and after a long time it doesn't progress any. So I delete the app from my home screen and decide to download it later in the night when my data is faster. When I tried to download it again, IT WASN'T IN MY ACCOUNT'S PURCHASED APPS. I checked and my money was NOT refunded. Yet I still can't download it. It wants me to purchase it again! Help! Edit: oh yeah I forgot to mention: I was downloading it on data since I don't have WiFi and I'm on iOS 11.0 as far as I'm aware (not sure how to check it) [link] [comments]  |
| Best Cases/Sleeves for Macbook Pro 15" Mid 2017 with touchbar... Posted: 01 Jan 2018 09:55 PM PST Not entirely sure this is the right place for this query, but it's worth a try. I just had my LCD crack out of the blue and was advised by the Genius that was assigned to my case that I should look into hardshell cases with rubber or some other protective material on the inside. I tend to dislike hardshell cases because every other one I've had has cracked within a week or so of having it. So.. 1. is a hard case recommended or necessary? 2. if so, which one? Also, I'm a college student and I travel quite a bit so my computer is subject to a bit of abuse. I had a Thule gauntlet for my previous Macbook and never had any issues with it and am considering one for my new device. I'd appreciate any thoughts so I can have whatever protection I decide ready when I get my MacBook back from apple later this week. [link] [comments]  |

| Need help with calling someone at Apple for replacing an unopened iPhone within Europe Posted: 01 Jan 2018 01:41 PM PST I bought an iPhone-X with 64GB drive in Switzerland. Now, I am in France and I am trying to change my iPhone to 256GB. I went to the Apple store here (Paris) to ask for help and they told me that it is not a problem and it will cost about 150euros. The next day, I went to the same store with the unopened iPhone and the receipt from the Apple store. The same person told me that it is not possible. When I told her that I came here because she was the one who told me it won't be a problem, she immediately backed away from her saying that "I did not say it is not possible, I said it might be possible." When I told her why she gave me an exact price for the upgrade, she just stopped for 45 seconds, then replied with "Please go to Apple website and ask for help in support and they need to give us an order; so that, we can change it." Now, here is the problem. I don't know who to call. I don't speak French; so, I don't know how to proceed through the auto-answer feature. When, I go to US one, they tell me they can't help me because my request is not in the US... Who should I talk to in this case? I also want to know something. If I buy an Apple device in one country, won't I be able to return it in another country (assuming I bought it from Apple Store) if I am within the return policy timeframe? [link] [comments]  |

An iPhone 6S can use Airplay with my 3rd Generation Apple TV yet an iPhone 5S can't. Both devices are fully up to date and connected to the same WiFi network. Any fixes or am I at a dead end? | MBP Totally Unresponsive - SMC Dead? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 02:48 PM PST MD322LL/A (Late 2011 MBP 8,2) running El Cap. Was using it in the Anchorage airport. Went outside to smoke. Came back in. Laptop had turned itself off while we were outside, which seemed odd but whatever. Used it for a few more hours, then traveled from the one airport to another, which entailed two heated bus rides along with maybe a total of an hour outside. Got to the other airport and the thing was totally dead. It won't boot, there's no pulsing status indicator light, it won't report battery level (which was full when I left the airport) via the little button on the side, and the light on the magsafe won't turn on when attached (not even dimly). I've never seen a laptop so dead. I'm thinking the temperature back-and-forth in Anchorage thrashed something, and given that the SMC controls the power button, SIL, battery management, and battery indicator light, it is my prime suspect. I read somewhere (damned if I can find it again, though) that the SMC is powered by a battery on the logic board. And I know that cold is rough on batteries. My hope is that it's a common button cell that can be easily replaced. But I could be on the totally wrong track here. Is there any hope of repairing this, or is it new logic board i.e. new mac time? Edit: FWIW, I've tried SMC reset via the standard procedure for macbooks with "non-removable" batteries (shift-ctrl-option-power, as well as the older procedure (power button for 10 sec) by opening up the bottom and disconnecting the battery. No effect. Also went through the motions of a PRAM reset, just for kicks. No change. Magsafe charger is known to be good. Main battery status is unknown, but I'd think that it could boot via magsafe power regardless. Update: I tried disconnecting the battery, then booting on magsafe power, to check if a faulty battery was interrupting the power circuit or whatever. No change. Tried bypassing the power button by shorting the solder pads, both with keyboard attached and detached. No change. [link] [comments]  |

| Frustratingly slow early 2015 12" MacBook Posted: 01 Jan 2018 07:58 PM PST Model Info Model Name: MacBook Model Identifier: MacBook8,1 Processor Name: Intel Core M Processor Speed: 1.1 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 2 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 4 MB Memory: 8 GB OS version 10.13.2 issues In the last few weeks I've noticed this MacBook has become slow to start up and both Safari and Chrome are laggy. That's about all I use it for. The Mac is also quite warm on the bottom almost instantly, which didn't use to be the case. I started to get it ready to do an erase and install, but I'm wondering if others would suggest steps I should consider before doing the erase and install? Or should I consider that this Mac may just be slow and potentially as it should be? So far, I've cleared the website data and cache in Safari and Chrome, run first aid in disk utility and run Apple's diagnostics, which all checked out. Thanks for any suggestions. Like title says, the OS will crash, reboots and everything's fine, until I hit the home button again (phone enters "lock" mode). | iPhone 6s with "Connect to iTunes screen" and disconnection problems when restoring Posted: 01 Jan 2018 01:47 PM PST Hi guys, I've got what I can only imagine is a rather common problem based on the amount of posts online, but I have a followup question that I haven't found an answer for. First I'll get you up to date. I received the used phone from a family member today and was told it didn't boot. It's been lying around for months so the battery was completely drained. As soon as I hooked it up to a charger I was greeted with the connect to iTunes screen. A fresh iTunes install later and the Phone was recognized and I was told it needed to be updated/reset due to a problem. As soon as the software extracts and it says "waiting for iPhone" I get the Windows USB disconnect sound, then the connection sound and iTunes tells me it is due to error 2009 (USB disconnect during update). A different USB cable yields error 4013. I don't think there is much I can do for now, but does anyone know what piece of hardware could be causing this? Also, as soon as I unplug the iPhone it goes black and doesn't respond which could mean it's not sufficiently charged or the battery is actually broken. Could this be linked to my problem? Whenever I press the home button during charging I see a flash of the boot logo and then immediately receive the Connect to iTunes screen once again. Any ideas for a fix and regarding which component could be causing it, if its indeed a hardware issue? Any help is much appreciated, cheers in advance! [link] [comments]  |
| Audio issues with AppleTV 4K and a Soundbar connected via Bluetooth. Posted: 01 Jan 2018 07:43 PM PST The audio keep going in and out. The soundbar is a Sony HT CT80. I got it as a Christmas gift. It's definitely not the most expensive soundbar out there. It might be the cheapest I've seen but can that really be the reason why this is happening? | iPod Touch 6G running iOS 11.2.1 - Poor battery life Posted: 01 Jan 2018 03:54 PM PST Hi! I have an iPod touch 6G that I bought brand new. My issue with it is that it seems to have rather poor battery life. I play a few games, browse the web, etc. and keep the screen brightness down, Wi-Fi and bluetooth off when I can, and all the other battery saving tips. The battery seems to last about 4 hours. Is that good enough? I have heard that iOS 11 has terrible battery life compared to iOS 10, but I can't find any way anymore to downgrade to iOS 10, since apple is no longer signing it. I've noticed in the past few weeks that the performance of JavaScript heavy applications in Safari and Chrome, especially games like agar.io, mope.io, results in the web page stuttering or even skipping frames entirely. I also own another MacBook Pro 15 inch Late 2013, and that one just runs those pages smoothly at 50-60 fps. I checked for any running programs using memory, or CPU - restarting doesn't help. | Did I get a defective MagSafe MacBook cable? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 06:53 PM PST The original power cable for my late 2013 MacBook 13" Retina couldn't handle more duct tape so I got a new one last month. I notice the LED on the cable frequently does not turn on; it shows that although the laptop is using the cable as the energy source, it is not actually charging the battery. Google told me it could be a matter of dirt that is accumulated on the power slot. I tried cleaning it but nothing changed. Is my cable defective? Doesn't look like there's anything wrong with my battery, I've had a MacBook before with a battery that swelled after 3 years and this one is not it. [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 01 Jan 2018 09:56 AM PST If I'm listening to the radio and have Apple Maps giving me directions, the beginning of the direction is often cut off. For example the direction might be "In one mile turn right" but all I'll hear is "turn right". The cut-off does not happen When I'm listening to my iPhone directly (through the car's USB patch). It would appear that when my car radio switches from FM to "incoming call" (which is how it handles the bluetooth direction) there is a small delay.... If I could delay the spoken directions a half second or so, I'd probably hear the whole direction... (Car is a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek) [link] [comments]  |
| [QUESTION] MacBook Pro 15 TB Time Machine Posted: 01 Jan 2018 02:43 PM PST So I have been doing time machine backups every now and then, and i usually just have 30gbs of backup to save. I excluded applications, downloads folder and etc. But when I checked this time, it jumped to ~100gbs of data. Which is insane as I don't backup apps or installer files. So what's eating the space in the system? Is there any way to find this? I also tried excluding all folders including pictures and documents and left only the SSD. Any help would be appreciated as i need to backup this thing before i go to applecare due to port problems. [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 01 Jan 2018 06:16 PM PST I replaced the flex ribbon and WiFi card tonight. The lcd isn't firing up now. I've checked the lcd connection and it's good. However, the plug at the bottom of the flex ribbon cable doesn't seem to snap into place, even though it seems like it's in correctly. I'm wondering if anyone here has thoughts on other culprits that could be causing the lcd to not turn on? With the iPhone, unplugging and plugging back in the battery can be necessary to reset things, is this true of the iPad also? Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments]  |

I need to connect to different monitors all the time and already have all the dongles I need from mini dp to whater ever I might encounter. My question will it work if I buy usb-c to mini dp dongle and connect my mini dp adapters to it? I am concerned that things like daisy chaining will not work and/or 4k@60hz will not be supported.
